Don't know how much to eat.

I am noticing that a lot of the pregnant girls on here are eating a lot more than I am. I am not scared to gain weight, I know that it is inevitable but I don't want to gain an excess like I did my last pregnancy. I gained over 40 pounds and that was way too much. I want to gain around 20-25 this pregnancy or less if it is still safe for the baby. My issue is that I am only around 1300 right now but today I had a loss of 1.6 pounds so I am obviously not eating enough. I don't feel hungry like I am not eating enough , and don't feel like I am dieting anymore, but still like to log and make sure if anything I am eating enough. I put my calories to maintenance and it's over 1900 calories, and I feel like I will gain too much too fast so now I have moved it to my BMR which is 1575. I was eating 1200 before I got pregnant so I think that should be fine because it is almost 400 more than I was eating. I would like opinions, if anyone doesn't mind because I don't get to see my OB until June 7th and can't ask her until then. I habetes ave not been doing as much exercise because I want to see what she says about that as well as I had two previous miscarriages and I know in normal pregnancies it is awesome, if I am high risk I want to take it easy.

My other issue is that I am really trying to watch my sugar and carbs because in my previous pregnancy I had gestational diabetes and really don't want to get that again. I know the chances are really high, but I want to try to prevent it. I had to take insulin shots 5 times a day and it sucked bigtime!!! Well, mostly I was feeling a little guilty about the weight loss, my last pregnancy it just climbed and climbed and didn't stop for the whole 9 months. I can't wait to get my baby bump and start showing.

Maybe try setting it to lose 1/2 per week, which would be around 1650 I think, so somewhere in between?

I changed my calories from 1,600 to 1,900 calories. I think an extra 300 calories is plenty right now. Once I talk to my doctor, I might even lower it for the rest of the first trimester if she says it's okay. I don't want to gain too much weight either but I will do whatever I need to to stay healthy for me and baby.

But I think you should make sure your primary focus is on what you're eating, rather than how much. If you're eating a super healthy 1,600 calories of lots of green vegetables and fruits and lean meats, you're going to be way healthier than eating 1,300 calories of burgers, cookies, etc. (I am working hard on making this change, even with my cravings for burgers).

It depends on how much you weigh - I'm 205 and eat 2400. I burn 200-600 through exercise and 2400 works well for me in the first trimester. I'm with chicky - 1650 maybe?

My doctor said I could continue to diet as long as I was being healthy about it. (I am still nearly 4 stone overnight), I changed my goal to "lose one pound a week" which increased my calories to 1660 per day. I eat back my exercise calories too.

I found it difficult actually eating more calories without introducing junk food, so I have a glass of orange juice with breakfast and have extra fruit every day. I still managed to lose 4 lbs last week!

I had been eating 1500 - 1700 which is my bmr/tdee.. I discussed it with my dr, and she said it's fine to continue that. I have been too exhausted to exercise much, but I can't wait to get back to the gym, it makes a world of difference. I am 10 weeks and have gained 2 pounds.. and, I'm pretty much okay with that. I know that I will gain, but I want it to be a healthy gain, and a cute pregnancy belly, not all over hugeness.. plus, staying healthy now will help to lose the weight when the baby comes right? :)

Definitely will help that's for sure.

I would have to agree with chicky. Half pound a week would put you in a comfy spot. I would just go over it with your doctor the next time you see her.
