Not finding this thread funny...

Perhaps I'm being a little sensitive, but this thread over in the "chit-chat" section has me angry. I don't think the OP meant to be derogatory, but I find most of the posts very insulting.

I was JUST about to post a link to that thread in here. It's horribly offensive.

Thankfully, it just got locked. I'd reported it, plus at least one other person.

Also offensive that they took jabs at the lgbt'ers who might have been offended by it. Real classy.

It drives me f'ing nuts that other people seem to think that a magical threshold exists whereby you are not allowed to find something offensive, and if you do, you're a ***** or an *kitten* or "heterophobic" (akin to reverse racism). It IS homophobic, it ISN'T okay, so STFU already!

When we live in a world where you can be fired, not hired, not given equal rights; where some of our brightest stars are murdered by others or by self loathing; and where we are not first class citizens and where lawmakers already we are too equal, it is particularly offensive.

Sorry, folks, i'm already having a bad day, and this is the straw.

it makes me sad that people can find this funny.. also it makes me think of so many tacky comedies/films where it still seems to be ok to make "gay jokes" I dont get it.

    So well said. :drinker:

I didn't bother responding in the thread exactly because of the ones defending themselves that anyone who didn't like it was "sensitive" or a "party-pooper". No reasoning with them. Glad the mods took care of it.

    Sorry you've had a bad day.:flowerforyou:

I saw that too...didnt see the humor in it...was offended. Just another bunch of homo-phobs banding together for a laugh. Pathetic.

i didnt see it which was maybe a good thing, sometimes i go in boot first.
  • If it's any consolation, one of the guys in the thread just admitted to the fact that his current girlfriend was his former babysitter.

This is what I found sad and possibly most offensive from the thread...
**waits for the head bully from the LGBT group to come tattle to the mods **
I hope not...it's all in good fun and not derogatory.....just a simple question.....Not that there's anything wrong with it.
I hear ya.... I'm all for some fun, but there's always a party-pooper who wants to play "hall monitor". BTW... yes, it made you gay. My guys will be over shortly for your 'man card'!
I wonder who the so-called head bully is supposed to be?

The other thing that gets me - and perhaps is a cultural thing (UK/EU vs USA) - but when someone says nohomo ... am I the only one to find this weird and slightly tacky?

I believe that I am the "head bully". Before that the "Am I Gay" thread popped up I had spoken out against, and reported, a different thread for it's transphobic/gender stereotyping nature. I've done the same thing with similar threads, and I guess that makes me a bully. :/ Oh well.

I admire you for speaking out and reporting those types of things. Thanks for doing it.

And the one who called you "head bully" is a fool and obviously doesn't understand what bullying is. Bullying is the hurtful behavior the OP and his cronies engaged in. Calling them out on it and reporting them is simply defense against bullying and we need more people to do exactly that. It's ridiculous that adults still engage in this childish behavior.

Well said, LabRat (I'm such a fan of most of your posts, btw).

Unwrapping Candy: I thought they were referring to you. Thanks for reporting the thread with me. Not sure if anyone else reported it, but I know with at least 2 people reporting those posts, that's what made the mods take action.

After I read Trail_Addict's comment about a "bully", I knew posting in the thread wouldn't educate anyone. So, I reported it and linked it here, too. Now, I remember why I don't visit the chit-Chat section very often anymore.

Sucks we have to run into this kind of behavior everywhere. One day, the world will progress past that point.

Typical chit-chat forum garbage. I wish there was a way I could filter out chit-chat threads from the Recent Forum Topics column, because I don't really read the forums beyond what shows up there. Usually there are interesting and relevant topics, but occasionally a few "Who's the hottest guy/gal?"-like threads shows up.

I like how anyone who doesn't find their humor funny is a "party-pooper" and "is easily offended." I don't find it funny because it isn't. Sorry, witty forum comedians.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Kyle. Do you mean people's profiles say they don't want friend requests from gay people? I've never seen that, so I'm not sure that's what you're referring to.

Okay, I figured it out myself. I'd never seen it before but did a topic search.

    This is typical:
Sidesteal i love you man /nohomo

I find it weird and slightly tacky as well. Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but not UK/EU vs USA but developed world vs the former Confederated States of America.

Perhaps we should politely and respectfully list reasons why we find the thread offensive despite being "all in good fun"

Re: the former confederated states... I hear younger townie kids in New England say "no homo" about stuff all the time. They think it is wicked funny. People drop the f word here a lot, and I'm not talking about the 4 letter one. (Usually in a context of like, "that gun in Modern Warfare is a f***** gun" or something -- not directly calling a gay person that, but it's still super not cool IMO).

I think people who do this stuff are barely conscious of their actions and resent being asked to think at all about how their actions might impact others. I worked in an alternative school of 150 kids with a sizable population of GLBTQ kids (10%? 15%?) and there was a group of kids who did it all the time, the one kid who really spoke out against it was ostracized totally by a lot of people. And the kids who did it, plus much of the staff at the school, thought it was no big deal and just how people talk. Why is this even still a thing?

Another d-bag former frat boy who suddenly remembered that circle jerk in college while talking with his wife so he needs to post something to get over his misplaced guilt.

    This is my shocked face.

Remember that first day of sex ed when no body could stop laughing even though nothing was funny? Yeah, this is the adult version of that.

Thanks for sharing your more direct experience. I probably do underestimate the amount of anti-gay bias--or at least the amount thoughtless anti-gay speech--in areas of the country that have greater legal equality at least on paper.

I find it weird and slightly tacky as well. Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but not UK/EU vs USA but developed world vs the former Confederated States of America.

I've seen messages on the boards where guys have been talking about their fitness regime and getting into shape and then another guy with compliment them on how they've sculpted their body and prefix the comment with nohomo as if straight guys are not allowed to have an opinion about how another man looks without feeling his sexuality threatened.

And then on message string, one of the other posters commented that she found it sad and a tad offensive and before you know it, they're ripping her to shreds, claiming vehemently that they weren't being homophobic and this is bro-culture and that even gay body builders use the phrase when praising fellow builders in the gym.

Now I don't get upset if somebody mistakenly thinks I'm straight, so why is it such a big deal to blokes if somebody thought they were gay. It's a device that's used in many sitcoms too and then there's all this canned laughter.

Ok, maybe it's too early in the morning for philosophical debates, but I still believe that it's gonna be a long long time before a persons' sexuality becomes a non-issue and is not equated with certain stereotyping.

NO!! You are NOT the only one who finds this tacky. When people say this it makes me want to slap the taste out of their mouth. People are so small and insecure these days. It's all about tearing others down in an effort to elevate themselves. Everyone is trying too hard to be snarky and sarcastic, secretly they're afraid that they're going to stand out from the crowd.

I'd never of "nohomo" before the thread. Sounds like when "that's so gay" first started. I couldn't stand that phrase, either.

I used to read the forums on bodybuilding.com a lot but I got sick of seeing no homo everywhere there. Overall this site does seem to be much more inclusive. :)
