1) new car
2) new girl

Heard my friend say that the other day, kinda funny. Kinda true (for some of my friends anyways). But I do typically open the doors normally.

Usually by the time I get to the other side of the car the girl is standing outside the door.... I do open building doors for girls and old ladies all the time tho.

I think most of it is getting into the car.

I think that while this may be true... its also a warning! lol.. Don't let the fact that the relationship or the car is new be the only reason you open the door for a girl!!! Keep doing it and randomly throughout the relationship. It shows you care, and we notice!!!!

The guy I am dating, yells at me(jokingly) when I try to open my door on his car to get out- he told me that I better get used to it since he is always going to be opening the door for me. I am used to guys opening when I am going in, but not when I am getting out.

Should never be because of that. A true gentleman opens every door, for every woman. Hell, my 6 year old son will literally run to the door to open it for a lady.

Agreed! My 12 year old son does the same. It's so sweet.

I think it is great and then I usually reach over and unlock his door. It is the little things that make a difference.

I love it when a man opens the door for me. At work I deal with knuckle dragging jerks who will slam a door in your face and not think twice.

I love the gentlemanly things that guys do. I notice and it for sure bodes well for him!

My dad has always been a door opener. I wish more guys were like him.

My ex used to walk in front of me into restaurants, stores, etc. and just let the door slam in my face. Why did I stay with him for 8 years again? lol

Same reason most women stay in bad relationships. You think you can change him or you think he'll change.

If a guy I'm dating ever walked into a restaurant in front of me, I'd turn around and leave. Nothing says "I couldn't care less about your presence or your safety" than a guy walking through the door in front of you and letting it close in your face.

When I'm on a date, I am constantly thinking "If my dad were observing this from afar, what would he think?" And I know without a doubt that if he saw something like that, he'd escort the guy outside and give him a good *kitten*-chewing.

I had a friend in college who (even at age 18-22) would basically race me to the door so he could open it. I miss him...

At the end of the day it is a door, and if improper door educate is what ruins your relationship it didn't have much ground to begin with.

The car door is just like the toilet seat. They can't operate that either.

    You guys are funny!

I actually don't care if a guy gets my car door. I'm VERY independent though.... However, walking in to an establishment and getting the door is cool.

That's sad!!! I dont even know what to say about women like that. A misplaced generation maybe?

Over the weekend, one guy waited for me to walk down the stairs in the pub. I said "thank you very much" he said "my pleasure"

so, where /how did people lose their manners?? and why? :frown:

    Keys open doors.

If it turns that Im where her door is on a car I will open it for her, always open the door for a lady getting into a cab and going into a building.. Its just the polite thing to do. Some doors are heavy lol.

Although I am completely capable of opening my own door, I appreciate the courtesy of having someone open the door, to the car or building, the same way I would expect him to appreciate it when I reach over and unlock the car door for him. I don't consider it sexist or in any way demeaning to me. Courtesy, much like good manners, people is a dying practice. The only way to keep it alive is to continue to use it.

I always open the door (car or otherwise, and yes, even when she's driving) for my lady. I'm respectful, but don't open car doors for other ladies (but will hold building doors). Yes, it requires a bit of extra effort. I think that is a key non-verbal communication of respect in a relationship.

I love the things men do for women. I also make it very known when they do open doors, give up seats, etc. I give the the extra thank you and tons of smiles. :)

I hold doors for everyone, seems like everyone does around here, maybe it's a midwest thing. I'll generally get a car door for a woman if we're out on a date, but if we've been seeing each other for a while I'm not going to do it every single time we get in the car. That just seems silly.
