Has anyone lost a character to permanent death from in Hardcore mode? Why would anyone play this mode? Is it worth farming in there?

you get a cheese-mint! A CHEESE MINT. I dunno what else. but i'm going to do it at some point. Because I gotta catch em all.
the secret is just to take it very slow and careful and spec for survival.0 -
I will do it eventually just to see how far I can get. Right now I just run into everything and rarely die so it would definitely be a play style adjustment to avoid death.0

I saw a video of some guy losing his level 60 character. His reaction looked fake. I'd be a little more upset if all that leveling went to waste.0

Got to 47 and those minions that are immune to damage owned me.......0

I'll tell you why people play hardcore mode. For most people, the game really does "end" at level 60 when all that's left to do is farm for gear. Playing the game at level 60 in Inferno mode basically means spending all your time farming and being pigeonholed into very specific builds just to make your character not get owned by trash spawns. A lot of people who play these games would rather shoot themselves in the face than play _that_ way (myself included) and they had a LOT more fun leveling through the lower difficulty levels when you weren't as gear dependent and had room to "play" with your builds.
Solution? Play a game that forces you to THINK ON YOUR FEET and never really lets you get to that point where it becomes a boring grind.0 -
I have avoided it just because I know I would/will be irritated when the character died - especially if it was due to something out of my control like lag, power outage, etc.0

Hardcore mode sounds like fun and all, but with the lag/latency issues I experience with the normal mode......not going to happen....I know other people in other areas that deal with the same latency spikes on different internet providers. Hopefully blizzard can stabilize their servers for hardcore to be a more viable play mode.0

Agreed. I can fully admit that hardcore mode is simply NOT viable as long as server-end issues will be a factor.
I hate myself for buying this game. $60 on a game that I put away after 3 weeks and will never be pulling out again.0 -

Bored with the game all ready or what? I just started hitting Act 1 Inferno with 2 friends of mine and it's great. Starting to actually have a few challenges with difficulty. I am also very curious about the PvP they will be opening up(no idea when, anyone here anything about this?).....hopefully they will have a good match making system and multiple game modes.0 -

I got bored with the game the moment I hit Act 2 Inferno. I did manage to progress to the Belial fight before I put the game down. As I said above I don't like being pigeonholed into only a select few viable builds when I have so many cool abilities to "play" with. Nor do I have any patience for farming whatsoever. It would be different if I hadn't already progressed through the same_exact_game in earlier difficulty levels, but yeah. Once I hit level 60 and I had to go back and repeat content I already progressed past just to acquire money to buy gear off the AH, it totally killed the game for me. I haven't logged on in a week and a half.
Anyway, the Belial fight is more or less a big gear check for me. There comes a point in every online based action RPG, whether MMO or not, where you hit a "wall" that can only be mounted by going back and endlessly farming old content for gear upgrades because skill, no matter how good, isn't enough. At this point, I always end up walking away from these games and never coming back because I _hate_ farming with a passion. I left WoW because that's all the game becomes at endgame. I left EVE Online because you have to spend 80% of your game time farming to do 20% PvP. And I'm done with Diablo because I would rather accept that I took a $60 loss than have to farm to progress farther.
I want to burn every single game I ever bought that forced me to farm content to progress. I want to actually PLAY the game and for me that means never experiencing the same exact thing twice.0 -
I haven't playing HC yet, i'm still working on Inferno. The difficulty gap is too hard for me and my Witch Doctor.
I might level one at some point, just for the challenge of it.
A challenge is nice. I like to be challenged in games. Being able to stand in one place and face smash everything isn't fun for me.
But that's me.0 -

I think the problem is that it's not so much a question of difficulty as it is a greater degree of gear dependence. Inferno mainly is for people who play the AH as much as they play the actual game. An excuse to get people in on the RMAH my guess is...0 -
Not played HC, but know people who ave and they say it makes the game a lot better as you actually care more about your char and get a real sense of panic when you get stuck in a corner and see yoru health plumetting.
I've just about had it with the game myself. I've sunk 60 hours into it and I'm at the "what is the point" stage. I know computer games are a waste of time, but this game REALLY feels like a waste of time. Running the same content with different mobs with indifferent loot is just.. dull.0
