It is hard to get a universal answer to the why since not everyone defines cheating the same. I have a friend that feels that he is not cheating on his girl because he does not "kiss the side piece" and therefore not "emotionally attached".

I have a guy friend who I adore but when I tell you he is the ultimate manwhore I'm not exxagerrating. He feels as long as there is no actual penetration hes not cheating on his GF. MInd you I'm not sure she would agree lol. But literally he will hit on anything that walks by with a vagina and a pulse and sometime I think the pulse is optional. He wont hit on me cause I kinda maybe might have threatened to hit him with my car if he tried anything0 -
I think a lot of them are looking for the adventure and excitement and rebellion in their lives that they don't get anywhere else. They get bossed around by some boss, they follow rules, laws, and the instructions on how to do a load of laundry. They have this spouse, these kids, this little boxy house with a picket fence.
And then they realize, my god, I'm bored. (This goes for men and women both, by the way). Is this it? Is this my life? And so they look for that excitment. That forbidden behavior. And cheating is less likely than other things to land them in jail or get them smeared all over the highway, so they do that instead of robbing banks and drag racing.0 -

Most of my friends are women and they all agree on this that it isnt cheating. They dont see anythign wrong with sexting, kissing, oral, sending nudies, and other stuff as long as they dont stick it in. Im so old school, I dont event talk to another girl when Im in a relationship so i never give out my number. I will say that 90 percent of my one night stands, dates, and sexting in the past was with women with boyfriends or married. I swear, they are so much easier to get than single women. Its the same with my guy friends, they never go for single women anymore. Every time they find a bachlorette party, one of them always gets with the bride to be. I swear. I dont get it. I will say, women over 40 are not like the younger ones, they tend to be more loyal and honest with no games.0 -
To me it seems to be two different issues.
1. Is that a couple were only sexually compatible, for example they got down to things pretty quick, chemistry was there sexually and it progressed from there, that little spark fizzles out and they end up looking elsewhere for it (because all they had in common was being sexually compatible.)
2. The two people are very compatible personality wise but not at all in the bedroom. From seeing this from an outsiders perspective it seems that it works for a while but long term the incompatibility in the bedroom spills elsewhere.
Those are the 2 main reasons I can think of anyway.
I can see the sex angle, for sure. But why cheat? Why not just end the relationship and move on to someone more compatible?? Do you think that they actually LOVE the person they are with, APART from the sex? So they may have all their other needs met - mental, emotional, security - but physical needs are missing? Hmmm!
For an actual serious response:
How many people don't like their jobs? Why don't they just quit and then find another one that is better suited to them? I suspect the answer is the same, there are more benefits to being married than there are to being alone. It's just not perfect or even close and going outside the marriage provides some benefits that the marriage didn't for whatever reason.
I also suspect that cheating isn't any more prevalent. There is always a sentiment that the bad things are far worse now than ever before and the good things are far better than ever before. I'm suspect that cheating has been prevalent at similar rates for a long long time.0 -

It used to be that you kept a job for life. Now people jump for better opportunities, and companies layoff in the name of short-term profit. It is a cultural shift. That same shift has happened in other areas of out lives. I agree that men aren't cheating more, but I do believe women are. Equality after all.0 -
I agree, cheaiting is selfish, an ego boost, a thrill... and speaks to character.. I believe that if they will cheat with you they will do it to you..Unfortunately personally I believe that aproximately 60 - 70% of people cheat.. maybe once, maybe ongoing.. I think I have pretty good intuition when it comes to cheating

Wow! I'm kinda blown away by this. Never, ever have I heard or seen any of my girlfriends cheating. Not one. I obviously can't speak for the younger generation, but this is crazy. Where do you live again? America confuses me so much!!! Talk about 2 ends of the spectrum :noway:0 -
