Catholic Online
Which Way for America? Will We Dedicate June to the Sacred Heart of Jesus or 'LGBT Pride'?

http://www.catholic.org/national/national_story.php?id=46499

I find it hard to believe catholiconline speaks for the church...

I saw this article. I'm not sure who is responsible for Catholic online. I'll have to see if the Catholic Bishops have weighed in on President Obama's statement. I see no reason why Catholics cannnot pray for members of the LGBT community during the month of June, though.

It seems the rhetoric out there is more geared to hate than to truly saving souls from eternal condemnation. and I still don't get how gays can be destructive to marriage..

I won't deny there are Christians spouting hatred (Westboro Baptist), but they don't represent all Christians.

I've been thinking of the passage where Jesus sent disciples out in pairs with instructions to carry nothing with them, and if the people of the towns wouldn't hear the word they were to shake the dust from their feet and move on. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT?? Jesus never said ram it down their throats, he said shake the dust from your feet and go on...... GRRRRRRRR

I don't understand why we can't just celebrate both. Yes, the Church may not agree LGBT community in regards to the marriage debate, but what it all really boils down to is that we (like the LGBT community) are all HUMANS, created in the image of God. This photo adds a touch of humor to the subject: http://www.flickr.com/photos/grimm_lynn/6868944728/

God may not agree with everything we do as humans, but God STILL LOVES US.

    Peace be with you :flowerforyou:

Remember, nothing is impossible for God :) That is what makes our Lord so great! God can handle ANYTHING, even silly web pictures.

so does anyone find it difficult to reconcile that fact that God can handle (and forgive) anything He chooses..... and presuming on God's mercy?

What do we want? Do we want happiness, satisfaction, communion with the creator and Father of all, or do we want to do what we like (often shaped by tv and other media)?

But, we cannot put our own selfish wants above what God has called us to do. Shoplifting makes some people happy and satisfied, but that doesn't make it right with God.

Of course He gives us free will. Our choices will either take us closer to Him or farther away. So, we can choose to make ourselves happy by stealing, but still must realize that is only moving us further away from God.

Why do people assume that what God wants for us will make us unhappy, or at least NOT make us happy? God's truth and His laws are meant to be followed because He knows what is best for us. We are such selfish children, but when we ask God's will and follow it, we can be sooo much happier.
