Right now, any stroke for me is the devil, but I hear you.

This may be a dumb question, but why are you doing butterfly? I grew up swimming. In high school I qualified for state in fly, but that was a long time ago. Though I can still DO it (which I pull out occasionally to impress my kids), I never swim it at the pool because I will never use it in any tri. So, are you swimming fly just to improve strength, to burn calories, or do you actually plan to use it in an event?

I have a coach who's a former swimmer. Probably a poor choice on my part LOL. One, she believes that everyone is stronger if they know all 4 strokes. I also have breast and back worked in to sets. Two she is of the belief that fly will help correct my balance/positioning issues. I was skeptical but I am much more acutely aware of my legs dropping than I used to be and I am able to correct it much quicker.

It may have been invented by Satan, but your swim coach is right. It will help your overall swimming greatly and help your body awareness in the water versus doing just freestyle. I obviously don't know about your personal balance/positioning issues, but butterfly will open your eyes to your efficiency in the water and how you move through it. You don't notice those things as much in freestyle because you can get away with doing it inefficiently without noticing it.
