How are you doing after hernia repair? Mesh?

I am afraid of the surgery and especially the mesh used to repair the hernia. How do you feel about it and if you got a mesh for repair, how is that going?

I have had to one in my Groin and one through my belly button. Both were fixed using mesh , no problem one is 5 years old the other 3 months.

I feel better for having them fixed.

That makes me feel better. How long was your recovery? Can you do core strengthening now?

I can now , 6 weeks rest on the belly button. The groin on is a 3 month down time. I am back to cycling , running and core exercises with no problem. 3 sets of 14 crunches and no pain or discomfort.

It does take some time but the doctors will walk you through the recovery, it will come down to fitness , smoking and alcohol intake.

Dont worry , i know that going in for surgery is tough but it is worth it . I started to suffer from chronic indigestion and heart burn now nadda!
    Good luck

Having the surgery is worth it!! I had 2 abdominal hernias. One fixed by mesh and the other just sewn. The pain after wasn't too bad and the recovery was pretty quick. Unfortunately a year later the smaller hernia that was sewn came back and another one above the mesh repaired hernia. Doctor says I'm just prone to them. :( I've yet to go back for surgery again. I've lost about 60 lbs since and it has really helped. I can still do some core exercises but I try to be careful. Once I get the time I'm definitely having surgery again!

So, how are you doing with that plastic mesh? Sorry to hear that you have repeat hernias. Did you have a reaction or reject the mesh? Do you have chronic pain?

I finally had the hernia repair. I am 3 month out from surgery and already feeling much better. Mobility is coming back slowly. I have had some set backs from over doing it. I have a coviden composite mesh made out of polyester. So far, so good.
