I know this group is a ghost town, but thought I'd give it a shot. I just got a new sit-on-top kayak (Malibu Two XL) and am looking for some cool spots to take it out. I think I'm going to Monterey this weekend to hang out with the otters.
Does anyone know some other cool spots?I don't mind a bit of a drive, camping, hotel, whatever. It would be cool if dogs are allowed so I could bring my pet and my friends, as they all fall into that category.

You can kayak around the Long Beach canals. More of a day trip thing, I think, but fun, and there is a dog beach in Long Beach, too. Or, you could kayak in Huntington Beach. There's also a kayak tour of the wetlands put on by (I think) the Huntington kayak rentals, and I know it's led/taught by a staff member from the Aquarium of the Pacific.0

Hey there ~ my hubby and I have kayaks & have been to a few cool places. We have sit-in recreational kayaks though, so no good for ocean kayaking--flat water only. Try Elkhorn Slough in Moss Landing for calm water and lots of otters. There are some pretty alpine lakes near Tahoe and near Bear Valley. We've kayaked in Mono Lake, Silver Lake, and June Lake up off 395 above Yosemite--pretty scenery up there. Unfortunately, MANY lakes in California have Quagga/Zebra Mussel inspections now, or are shut down completely to watercraft because of the Mussels. I use this site a lot to find new places to go: http://paddlingcalifornia.com/
Have fun with your new kayak!0 -
