How do I stop snacking while watching TV?

My main problem is that whenever I watch TV or a movie I always snack. When I tried not to snack I started the awful habit of biting my fingernails. I just need something not too noticable by other people to do or to think that will help me not have this need to do something while watching.

first, you may want to limit tv time.
    BUT
i know we have those movie nights and those shows we really like, if i were you i would make a fruity shake with a huge bowl of fruit that i could reach from (make sure its low calorie fruit so you can eat a bunch of it). and just keep it there.
  • Workout while you watch. If you have a tredmill, weights, bands, or nothing; there is tons you can do. I like to do crunches, pushups, burpies, jumping jacks, running in place. I mostly do these during commercials but still it keeps me away from snacking. Also, I limit my TV time to an hour or less a day. Doing this you'll burn calories and still get to watch your favorite evenin shows.
If you do snack choose fruit or veggies. Also, I know not everyone loves those foods but its better to also skip the dips!
    Best of luck!

As a recovering nail biter, my advice is to wear gloves while watching tv. I know this sounds weird. Get the moisturizing gloves and use it as an excuse to moisturize your skin and cuticles. I also like to have a hot mug of tea to hold in my hands which keeps my hands and mouth both busy.

I don't normally watch TV. But, with the Euro 2012 on, i dribble my soccer ball around while watching TV.

    Good ideas!

If you eat while watching TV, it's probably because you're bored... which means you might want to read a magazine or a book while watching TV! Or try a new hobby.

I cut up a bunch of celery and throw some babycut carrots into the mix to snack on while watching movies. I also keep a warm cup of green tea on hand at all times - sometimes you're just thristy, that's all. Make a big pot and set it up at the coffee table so you never run out!

A friend of mine used to make friendship bands which kept her hands occupied so she didn't feel the need to eat! Plus you get something out of it at the end...

I surf the internet while watching TV. As long as I am not looking at recipes online I forget about snacking.

I haven't had a t.v. years, but when i used to watch t.v. i would draw or do a craft. My mother crochets or makes jewelry when she's watching television, and my aunt does sit ups and crunches during commercials. It's kinda funny so many people need to have something to do while watching- maybe t.v. isn't so interesting after all : )
