What is the 2nd best weapon in gaming history ?

We all the know the Spread Gun in Contra is #1 by a mile but what do you think the 2nd best weapon is ?

I think the BFG 9000 from Doom would have to 2nd on my list.

    Though not strictly a weapon, exactly, the portal gun will always be tops.

    As cool as some of the weapons in video games can be, I find the one using it can make even most ordinary weapons awesome. AC3's Connor can be pretty creative with a hatchet ;)

    Couldn't disagree more. When I was hands on with AC3, I didn't find anything unique or creative about the hatchet. The mechanic for throwing heavy weapons has been in the Assassin's Creed series since AC2. The only difference is that it's now a given, not a random weapon you steal from an armed guard.

    Anyway, not to be a purist, but the Portal gun isn't a weapon. It's a means of survival, not a means of assault. Yeah, I know it's a neat trick to have a sentry kill itself, and it makes you feel nice and sadistic, but you're not directly the cause of death.

    I'd equate weapons with direct damage, not indirect damage.

    Also, are we talking about most useful weapon, or are we talking about most infamous weapon? Because we could talk all day and all night about Link's famous weapons, keyblades, gravity guns, etc. which are not particularly powerful, but are pretty cool.

    So I'm going to cheat and say Pandora from DMC 4. Because... holy crap, it's an all-in-one.

    2nd best weapon?

    I would say the Keyblade. Its a friggen key that can unlock anything by shooting a beam at the lock and then BAM!

    While I enjoy many weapons, I'll have to go Halo and say that the Spartan Laser is my favorite, and possibly the best weapon I have used. Although it has a time layback on shooting, it is super powerful and if on target, a dead hit! Love it! :D

    [EDIT] That, or the gravity hammer. It's pretty BA, too. :blushing:

    Agreed, spread gun is epic!! especially if you get the R power ups after :)

    Does a Pokeball count as a weapon? Because something comes out that can destroy things(for the most part) like an Arcanine for example. lol

    The plasma cutter. :) You could count that as a gun if you kill necromorphs.
