Gamer Needs to Broaden Her Horizons...

Table Top D&D
Mortal Kombat
Dead Island
WoW
Need For Speed
StarCraft
Diablo
Dragon Age
Oblivion
God of War
Assassin's Creed
Rage

Okay this list will get long if I don't stop here. My point? From the list you can gauge that for the most part RPGer. Before I give in and go back to playing WoW can anyone suggest something new? PC or PS3...although I'll be purchasing another 360 within the next 3 months.

Lord of the Rings Online is free 2 play and it's (mostly) feasible to play through without paying any money.

I've got a casual group that plays together once a week there just to have something fun to do without feeling like we're committed to playing all of the time by a monthly fee.

League of Legends is another free 2 play game, which a pretty steep learning curve, but is a lot of fun. It's also quickly gaining a lot of popularity in the eSports scene. It stems from the Warcraft III map "Defense of the Ancients", and is pretty fun.

I've been looking at those two as well as League of Legends. Is Fallout more like a FPS?

TORCHLIGHT! Preorder Torchlight 2 and you get 1 for free off Steam. Only $20!
  • free MMORPG's worth a taste

TERA (just added a 7 day trial) - simular to wow, but nicer* look, and more colsole-esc combat (you can even use your PS3 controller)

star trek online - free, space combat is amazing, ground is.. well ok simular to most other mmo's

champions online - super heros! - free, lots of fun with superhero skin over it, if youve played wow you'll have it worked out in 5 mins

and GTA4 if you havent hit that up yet, such a good game series and 4 keeps it up and is very fun for free roam, and the story is really engaging too

I don't know what platform you have Dragon Age one, but if you play part two (for me on the PS3) with your old part one saves, the story continues on with some of the part one outcomes affecting part two. But I warn you; Dragon Age 1 and 2 are two totally different games.

I have a PS3 - I've played Dragon Age Origins as well as Awakenings. I finished Dragon Age 2 last week. Definitely different from the first two. Granted I like the combat style of DA2 but I loved the first two much better.

BTW should anyone like to add me on PS3 I can be found under Shaeded

lol I've found through experience that once your a WoW player, no other game really gives you the same satisfaction. I tried and tried to replace it and gave in and went back =/ Aion and Rift were both fun, but they still weren't WoW,,,

Tribes:Ascend is pretty fun stuff. I play it nightly its Free 2 Play. Its a AAA FPS so its not like other free titles out there. My tag is nj-sleepy.

    Adventure games?

    Broken Sword
Anything by Lucas Arts (especially the Monkey Island series)
    Gabriel Knight

You can take a look at Good Old Games website and find some classics from back in the day. I'm off to load up Gabriel Knight 3 and finally work through it.

LOTRO is good (played it for 5 years myself), especially in the Shire and Moria.

    Knights of the Old Republic
    Civilization
    Age of Empires
    Skyrim
    Minecraft

Dark Souls (PS3) and whatever the other one is that they made. Both are rock hard
    Red Dead Redemption (PS3)

This ^ altho Rift gives me a lot of things WoW is missing...its still not WoW.

Fallout is fun, im not good at FPS, but i love to sneak and reverse pickpocket grenades. Its a good game, New Vegas is buggy but i like the storylines, Fallout 3 has a lot of super mutants and they scare me but its great too!

I beg to differ. Played WoW for 3-4 years and then sold my account. Never looked back. I don't do grinding or farming.

I'm sensing an RPG element here.

Give Bioshock a try. It has a bit of RPG in it, and the horror/action combo is a great touch.

if you like RPGs you should give Tales of Graces F a try, I personally enjoyed it compared to FFXIII or FFXIII-2

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've played Skyrim through (waiting for the DLC) and I've recently picked up Elder Scrolls: Oblivion w/ the Shivering Isles Xpac. I am looking into Tales of Grace F and also Dragon's Dogma. Haven't decided which to go with first - they both look fantastic.

I gave in and pre-ordered the new COD and even Lego LOTR. ME2 and ME3 are finished =)

Well it's still in Beta but Guild Wars 2 when it releases will be awesome. Even in the Beta it's pretty cool, bugs are actually kind of fun to find.

    Mass Effect series

I have to agree on this one for game play and variety... I bought an xbox last year and after play mostly FPS games I wanted something a little different. I heard a little about the Mass Effect series and how the game play carries over from 1 to 2 to 3 and thought I would give it a try. I bought ME1 and played through it 3 times to get to level 60 and each play through was a little different depending on my choices. There is a lot of variation in this series so if you want hours of different game play you should like this.

I do dungeons and dragons online and lord of the rings online. Fallout 3 was just amazing for me and i'm not even really into that style of game. out of the 2 mmos, lord of the rings online is 'kinder' to free to play accounts. Dungeons and Dragons online really likes to nickle and dime non vip players, but an account costs roughly $10/month. There's a lot of RPG guilds that are super focused on role playing. I'm in an epic/raiding guild on Thelanis but luckily the guys are casual enough that they don't expect me to be on like 10h a day. In lotro i'm on Eldinmir server in a guild at 3 that's essentially a solo-play guild. My fiance has got into Fallout:New Vegas in a big way but it didn't appeal to me the same way as fallout 3.

edited to say: i just noticed you do tabletop dnd and just wanted to give fair warning that ddo isn't dnd, the same rules don't exactly apply to the way turbine did the game mechanics. if you're interested in doing ddo i can help you out with a decent character build if you message me. :)
  • If you like RPGs then you will like the Fable series. Oh and of course, Skyrim.

I just started playing The Secret World and it is awesome! It's an MMORPG with a horror twist. You get to kill zombies! It's really different from any other MMO out there, there are no real levels, you just get points to add to make your toon better, but it's completely open and free form. Plus, the story is really great. Very fun.
