Picked up a GT Karakoram 29er tonight! My first new bike in 18 years... I can't wait to go out on it tomorrow!

Congrats! Post up some pics. One day I will join the 29er club, but for now I'm bike poor.

    Oooh, I like!

Just got my first 29er a few weeks ago...a Felt Nine Trail. It feels *really* odd compared to a 26. But it's awesome.

Ok, so someone enlighten me. What is the big hub bub over 29'ers. I think I missed a whole bunch of memos.

Here she is. I was so jumpy to get out and ride, I didn't even take the reflectors off yet. :)

Awesome! I love my 29'er! You just float over the technical stuff! I have a Ventana El Commandante set up as Single speed and ride it everywhere! Those big wheels really make up a lot for not having rear suspension. Enjoy your ride!

then you probably didn't get the memo about the new 27.5 that everyone thinks is the new magic number

My husband got one as a race bike. It's a smoother ride than a 26" hard tail so you can save the weight of the rear suspension (but still not as smooth as the full suspension). They are also good for men over 6' tall who need something bigger.

Best comparison I've heard is to go jump on a bmx bike and ride it for a day on the same trails you ride your mtb. Then grab your 26er and ride that. The main difference you'll feel between a 26er and a 29er is more stability and smoothness over the big stuff.

Just got back from the bike shop myself, having purchased a Specialized Carve Comp 29er, another roadie ride tomorrow so hope to get out on it Sunday.
