Scabs, Scars, Chafing

I am finding that more and more I am coming back from my long runs battered up. I have chafing, yes I use stuff for it, but still happens. My fuel belt that has never been a problem is now rubbing and leaving my skin with sores. I also have bruises on my hips from it. My latest is my Ipod Shuffle, clipped to my belt as it always has been and never previously a problem, is now cutting into me. Oh and my HRM is now rubbing too.

I can't figure out if this is from simply running further - I"m doing 18-20's. If it's the heat, it was 85 and very humid when I finished my run on Friday at 8:30 AM.

I have used the same clothes, same gear, same everything for previous races, but this time, I'm literally coming back with scabs, scars, chafing, bleeding, scrapes, bruises. I look like I've been through a war zone.

Is this expected and what can I do about it?

Have you tried using some sort of anti-friction cream? On longer runs in hot, humid weather, I make sure I out it in all of the possible chafing areas.

I use body glide but yes, sometimes it does still happen. My worst area is right under my arms where the singlet or bra hits.

I don't know. If anyone else has had success, please do share. I'm at a loss. :ohwell: I've tried everything, body glide, vaseline, etc. but no matter what I wear I still get scars underneath my "girls". Short or long run, it happens....

Vaseline, Compression underpants, and Blister plasters for your nipples. Once i got to 16 miles plus, these were all god tier ( I only ran with the plasters on my nipples race day )

I don't get a lot of chafing since I switched to capris (thigh rub, ugh), but my bf ALWAYS gets it- worse when he's not hydrated. He's used Bag Balm, Body Glide, but the latest and greatest is Chamois Butt'r.

Longer runs+ humidity is probably the culprit. You might need to change your belt- maybe you're carrying more weight now that you're out longer? Does it have padding that's maybe wearing away? Is it fraying? If you've changed shape (by loosing weight or gaining muscle or whatever), perhaps you need to look at re-adjusting it?

Good luck... solving chafe issues seems as difficult as trying to keep squirrels from a birdfeeder.

There is a new product out by Lanacane. Anti-chafing gel anti-friction formula. They have it a Wal mart, etc. Great stuff! Iv'e tried everything else with varied results but this stuff seems to work for me.

i usually get awful chafing on my bingo wings and under my bra.

i wear skins and a compression top (with a t shirt over the top) for long runs. i use vaseline or other chafing stuff everywhere. that didn't stop the bra rubbing though, but i discovered sports tape. i put sports tape everywhere that is bad for rubbing- so under my bra and on my neck where my camelbak used to rub. no dramas since.
  • I slathered my nipples in Body Glide today and it didn't really even help. Kinda disappointed. I hate to think that I'm going to be reduced to band-aids, but it's starting to seem like it.

Gold Bond Friction Defense. Works like a charm. Everywhere.
