Hey ladies! I was diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago after months of no periods. My doctor put me on BC because at the time I was not trying to get pregnant. He told me to go off the BC when I was and try right away. Well I went off and still no period for like 6 months. I'm setting up an appointment for next month and I'm assuming from all I've read clomid will be the first step. My question to you all is have you been put on clomid and what is the process like? Do you have to have lab work or ultrasounds periodically or how do they measure the progress? Thanks!

well for me my journey has been a nightmare. (This is for the UK)

I saw my doctor almost 3 years ago after trying to concieve for over a year. He sent me to a gynacologist. They told me I have PCOS and said that I need to lose weight and basically wouldnt help me to get pregnant untill I did so. This had totally the opposite affect on me and I doubled my eating habits because it had upset me so much. I saw my doctor this year and said that I have now been trying to get pregnant for over 3 years and so i was refereed back to gynacologist and fertility clinic. I asked about getting clomid and they said that im to heavy and again I was told to lose weight... I was told that I need to be under 14 stones before they would even think about putting me on that drug... I am approaching 30 and getting freaked out completely that I may never be a mum.

    so to sum up:

3 years ago I had a scan to show cysts, refused help
This year I decided that if i dont lose the weight now i will never get pregnant, i had another scan, still showed cysts but my doctor put me on metaformin to help me try and conceieve- no luck

I think before they consider putting you on clomid they will probably do a scan first, and if your of a decent weight such as the 14 then they probably will start you on clomid.

I was told that doctors cant prescribed clomid only gynacologists

I go back to my clinic on july 5th but I know what there say, despite all my hard work in losing 2 stone 4ib they will probably still refuse me, I hate them.

I went to my first Reproductive Endocrinologist and he just wrote my prescription for Clomid, with no tests or scans. After two days in hospital ER with Hyper Ovarian Stimulation I found a new doctor. this doctor sat down with me, we charted my cycles, temps, regular hormone panels, and blood sugar screenings. He then prescribed me Femara, which I had no problems with. It's relatively inexpensive and I had none of the same pain and problems as I had with Clomid.

I took clomid and had to go in each month for a folicule scan, Clomid did help me concieve my first child, but I was 27 years old, and this time around it hasn't helped me. I would reccoment Ovulation tester, I want to get one if we start trying again. They will also check the male in your life to make sure he has lots of swimmers. My first clomid experience was completly different then my 2nd. I had different doctors, the first one just kind let me do it on my own and take ovulation tests at home, the 2nd one made me come in and do the scans, which were spendy. Just try not to stress, it is hard not too.. but I think that makes it worse. Good luck!

I was on clomid for 5 cycles, I am 27 and have known about having PCOS for about 1.5 years.

    1 cycle - single dose (50mg) - no ovulation
2 cycle - double dose (100mg) - ovulation, no pregnancy
    3 cycle - double dose (100mg) - no ovulation
4 cycle - triple dose (150mg) - ovulation, no pregnancy
    5 cycle - triple dose (150mg) - ovulation, PREGNANT

It took me 5 years, 5 local doctors, 2 specials, BBT charting, day counting, blood tests, a small fortune spent on ovulation kits, pregnancy tests, thousands of kilometers on my car and hours of research.

If you are taking clomid keep in mind that one of the side affects that many don't know about or hear about is that clomid can cause a woman's mucus to become hostile towards sperm. I had a feeling that this might of been my issue. Instead of going to the doctor and have a bunch of tests done to confirm my suspicions I just tried the solution.

The solution to hostile mucus is REALLY simple, you take Robitussin 3 times a day, starting the day after day 5 of taking the clomid until ovulation.

Look into it for yourself, but it worked for me I am currently 5 weeks pregnant!

My gyno had me on clomid for five consecutive months. She told me that my charts (basal temp) were beautiful and she wasn't sure why I wasn't pregnant. They did a full lab workup on me in the beginning and wanted to do the ultra sounds but my insurance wouldn't cover them. The worst side effects I had were the hot flashes (they were killer on me). My doc told me that for my best chances with clomid that I would need to lose weight and try again or go to see a specialist.
