Skinny Cakes - An experiment to create healthy baking recipes from old-school family recipes.
I am starting this Skinny Cake group to try to convert my Great- Grandmother's AMAZING cake, pie, cookies, and brownies recipes into something close to healthy. She was a professional baker and celebration cake caterer. I have been transcribing her cookbooks, recipe journals, articles and notes into the a master family baking cookbook and have more than 100 of her recipes, most of which were handed down from her mother and grandmother. I am at recipe testing phase, and I need to lose 30 lbs. I started MyFitnessPal 19 days ago, and for 19 days I havent baked. Scared to pick up a bowl, as if the art of touching butter and sugar will just pack on the pounds.
So, I will integrate my ambition for my post-baby weight loss (30 pounds in 18 weeks) with my ambition to chronicle the amazing recipes of my maternal grandmother, great-aunts and great-grandmother. It will be a challenge but that's what life is about.
I will be posting one recipe every week in the original form, and then in the "healthy" form. It will be a challenge, and I am open to feedback/improvements on the recipes.
I have no idea if the adapted recipes will be able to maintain their wonderful taste. It is a journey, expect to learn a lot and have some slip-ups along the way. I am sure my Great-Grandmother would be proud of me for trying, although she is probably skeptical that a cake without butter would ever really taste good.
