  • Hi, I'm 5' 2." and 66 years old. I've lost 51-53 lbs (fluctuations) and did not have any problem losing weight post-menopausal. I've actually been more successful after than before because I found what works is portion control, calories in/calories out and increased exercise/activity. I lost weight consistently over time…
  • I have a Charge HR and love it. It gives you your total burn for the entire day but you can use the timer to record your workout as @rakaelbrown said. It recognizes certain activity patterns like the elliptical after 10 minutes It's been very helpful to keep me moving and aware of my activity level for the whole day. I can…
  • I find all restaurant food, and fast food too salty now. Sad that pizza is way too salty also because it was always my favorite. Can't stand any commercial baked goods as they taste too cloyingly sweet. Love the spicy stuff if it's homemade without the salt. I can still go for a few potato chips occasionally though. Love…
  • I have a Fitbit Charge HR that I love. With a tracker I'm better able to guage my overall activity which includes walking every day along with weight lifting, and some cardio 4Xs per week. I've found it be pretty accurate for an overall calorie burn. I make sure to get 25,000 steps of activity every day. I've lost 51-52…
  • What @WinoGelato says, totally, 100%. I lived by that rule -- eat the most food you can and still lose weight.
  • I eat between 1,750ish to 2,000+ calories per day. 5'2.5'/66 years old on maintenance at 127 lbs. I've lost 52 lbs. total. I'm most comfortable around 1,800 - 1,875ish per day; over that amount I start to feel really full. I use a Fitbit to determine calorie burn and average 25,000 steps per day -- this includes my gym…
  • I'm 5'2.5" and 66 years old. I eat 1,750ish to 2,000+ calories per day. Lost 52 lbs. at 1 lb per week then .5 lb over a 15 month period and currently at maintenance. Holding steady at 127 lbs. I have a Fitbit HR and walk 25,000 steps per day total activity which includes weight training & cardio 3x's per week.
  • Lost weight slowly but consistently with a small deficit. Changed the way I eat and view food. Became more active; I have a Fitbit and now get 25,000 steps per day, including lifting weights and some cardio 3x per week. Weight lifting changed my body composition right from the beginning -- highly recommend.
  • I measure every month and have since I started. Down 52 lbs and on maintenance. I'm 66 years old. 15 months to lose the weight; originally US size 14/16 now Ladies 2/4 or Petite 4/6. (Medium). Height 5'2.5" Starting weight 179 Starting measurements 42/32/42 Current weight 127 Current measurements 36/28/36
  • Love my Fitbit Charge HR. It was shocking to see how sedentary I was. If I hit 3 - 5,000 steps per day it was a miracle. I'm doing 25,000 every day now. I lost 52 lbs. over 15 months and transitioned to maintenance a few months ago. Holding steady at 127 lbs. I'm 66 years old and 5'2.5" tall. Can't live without it. It…
  • Hi, sorry no pictures. I joined a gym when I first stared losing weight which has Les Mills Body Pump classes and loved them. I lift as heavy as I can -- it's not like a regular weight lifting routine, etc. but it works for me. First, I began with just the bar then progressively added weights once my form was good. Body…
  • I'm 66 years old, 5'2.5" and down 51 - 52lbs. after yo-yo dieting for many years. At a healthy weight range since February 2015. Currently maintaining at 126 - 127 lbs. It took me 15 months to lose the weight. Since I lifted weights almost from the beginning of my loss I practically have no loose skin. Some cottage cheese…
  • You look awesome! Congrats on the loss!
  • In a healthy weight range (126 - 127 lbs) since February 2015 and successfully maintaining a 51-52 lb. loss. I lost slowly but consistently over a 15 month period. I'm 5'2.5" and 66 years old. My metabolism has not been damaged by yo-yo dieting and being overweight for years. My TDEE and BMR is spot on with the…
  • Here's another thread about the same topic. community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10382802/gaining-it-back-nyt-article#latest
  • Another drawback with quickly losing so much weight is the loose skin that may appear as the fat disappears. Nothing you can do about that except for surgery or hope that your age and/or genetics allows for most of the excess to tighten up. It has to be a lifestyle change, moderation, portion control, and exercise long…
  • @laur357, my maintenance calories are higher than I expected them to be with exercise. I've been maintaining eating 1,700 - 2,000 calories exercising 6 hours a week at the gym plus walking. I have a Fitbit and make sure to hit 25,000 steps per day, every day. I'm short, 5'2.5" and old (66) so I think that's pretty good. If…
  • I retired at 61 and then lost all my weight. Retirement is awesome so no worries. I was so stressed out and not sleeping at all. Once I was able to focus on my health by changing my way of life all my health markers improved over the year following my retirement. So much happier now in body, mind, and spirit.
  • I also lost all my weight (51-52 lbs) slowly and steadily right here on MFP. Counting calories is what works over the long haul. It took me over a year to reach maintenance and at a healthy weight range for a year + now. MFP works.
  • Take a look at a book titled: "Thin for Life: 10 Keys to Success from People Who Have Lost Weight and Kept it Off." which looks at statistics from the National Weight Control Registry. It's a more realistic look on how accomplish your weight loss goal.
  • Totally agree with @booksandchocolate12 and @AnnPT77. Their recommendations are spot on. Look at your logging. How are you determining your calorie burn? A digital food scale is a must. Are you using a tracker or HRM? Your guesstimates may be off.
  • 5'2.5" SW 179 - US size 14 - 16 CW 127 - US size 6 Petite or size 2/4 Women's Weight lifting made a big difference in my body composition.
  • I've noticed a bit of wonky-ness, especially over the last couple of weeks. At least once a week I've had to disconnect and reconnect for a data transfer to happen. It's very annoying. The problem is MFP because Fitbit is logging all my data correctly. It's just not transferring over to MFP.
  • I lost 51 - 53 lbs over a 18 month period and hit a normal BMI in February, 2015. Transitioned into maintenance a couple of months ago. I'm still counting and logging and will probably for the rest of my life, but I'm old so . . . I've changed the way I eat and love my new healthy lifestyle of sensible calorie intake with…
  • Hey, @hstoblish. I'm 66, 5'2.5" and lost 51-53 lbs. (fluctuations) over a 15 month period. I'm maintaining at around 1800+ calories. It's doable with resistance training and a bit of cardio so there's no shrinkage, just wrinkles! :)
  • I'm averaging around 56 - 58 since losing weight and exercising more frequently. I guess that's pretty good since I'm 66 years old.
  • I've tried everything -- most worked short term. I always ended up regaining because I never understood how to really lose weight: calories in / calories out. Once I found MFP, ba-bam! Lost 51-53 lbs. (fluctuations) slowly and sustainably. Maintaining a healthy weight range since February of 2015. I educated myself about…
  • Always remember that you control the food; the food doesn't control you.
  • Dear @Chi_Warrior, Have you met my cousin, Ricotta? She's a bit of lovely stuff so check her out. You two might get along. Your friend, Cottage Cheese PS: No hard feelings! I totally understand. Sometimes I can be too salty.
  • Hi, @mmjclark04. I just wanted to add that you should schedule regular rest days in between your very active work outs. I'm at the gym 4 days a week and take a rest day from lifting weights and cardio after each work out day. By rest day, I mean that I walk, bike, or swim on the non-gym days. Like everyone said up thread,…
