  • Hello Plant Tribe! Magic: Thinking of you! I'm taking a course in nonfiction creative writing, and we each have to chose a topic, and mine is "My Pandemic", ow my family and I are handling the pandemic..and I listed the good things that have come out of it so far...and my Plant Tribe being one! I've had no appetite lately…
  • Happy Sunday! A good week, and down several lbs since I resumed my commitment. This time I'm going to avoid my traditional pattern of : Oh, I've got this..a little extra here or there won't matter. Something I've learning is that this journey is a little like my journey with cigarettes (I used to be a 3 pack a day smoker).…
  • Let me also add this: We all want to lose weight at one time or another, but the big challenge is keeping it off. I know that diet fatigue sets in and that's when I start slowly backsliding on good habits. When I've lost weight while weight training, weight training always keeps me motivated. Weight lifting is interesting.…
  • I think weight lifting is a long term investment in your weight loss. I've weighed 140 and worn a size 6. I've weighed 140 and worn a size 10 in the same brand. The difference was that I did MFP and weight trained seriously 3x a week. My body at a size 6 was 18% bodyfat, my body at a size 10 was 27% bodyfat. 'And, in…
  • Happy weekend all! I have a saying "that's what money is for"...so if you hire an expert go for it! Pre-Covid I had my hair "done" every week at the Aveda student training salon (all of $16.00). For a couple of hours, I was pampered and came out feeling refreshed by some girl talk, and my hair, which normally looks like…
  • Happy Friday, Plant Tribe! Between Covid, the general unrest, anxiety about our son's first semester of college (he's not remotely academic), food has lost it's taste for me...so there's a silver lining, even when there's a tornado, hurricane and impending volcanic eruption! Once our son finishes his first exam, I think…
  • Oh, Magic...what can we do? I've been remiss. I'm sleeping so badly, and each day seems to be like a waking dream. I don't know if it is pandemic fatigue, concern about our son's first semester in college (which is actually going quite well), the general state of unrest here and elsewhere. I'm trying to just put some human…
  • What a great plan! I just think there is something energizing about having a plan. My goal is the gym each day (even though I spend a lot of time scampering around floors since the equipment has been distanced...so I count that as steps) and to plan and prep my meals every morning. I've discovered steamed veggies..oh my,…
  • Magic: That's so much going on. Sometimes everything personal has to be chaotic cause everything in the world is the same! It may well be the sleep. I have a good family, but my whole outside social support network..even those little incidental social interactions...are gone now, and I think I feel down the most at night,…
  • Mihani: I'm with you on habit. I made a vow to go to the gym every day this month without excuses. Even if it is for 20 minutes, which is just about what I can do with a 6 month hiatus. And, that does sound very Covid like. I think I'm aware of the most widespread symptoms, but what you described, what I experienced and…
  • Oops, I tend to block out stuff I don't want to think about...but I had a couple of weeks of shortness of breath, and getting down on all fours in the living room and having our son pound on my back. No fever, and I could smell just fine (and oh, teen boys seem to be founts of odors!). I don't know if it was Covid, or…
  • Good evening Plant Friends: I tend to swing between: I've got this, I don't need any support to holy crap, these a relatively new habits, and who am I kidding...I need all the support I can get! Austin: I feel for you, as for your husband. I was not an easy patient, and I detested bed rest. I did find myself watching a…
  • Oops, hit that too soon. We are a dog loving household here, so I envy the puppy! I always have biscuits on me, more often than not I can find a small zip lock bag of biscuits in a purse more often than a lipstick! So glad, Austin, to here your husband is mending. Is he going to do physical therapy..I found that the…
  • Wow, you Plant Goddesses are productive! I think we're all fueled by the power of plants...so hurrah for that! I've signed up for a class in nonfiction creative writing...which sounds like a contradiction, but we'll see. I'm using the pandemic to stretch myself in new ways, and it has been decades since I've done "deep…
  • Good evening plant friends! Today, 10k steps, and ran off some recipes from the Weight Watchers website to try this week. I really, really, really need variety. 3 months ago, in addition to no longer eating animals/fish and most dairy, I gave up any kind of flour product. And, I haven't done much to replace flour with any…
  • Oh, Austin: Ouch! About two years ago I was rushing to get the recycling out in time, caught my slipper on a ridge in the marble in our entrance way and fell entirely on my right side (for some reason the only thing I could think of was holding onto that recyling bag so I didn't make a mess). So, lessons I learned: 1) fall…
  • I agree..I just do an approximation when it comes to calorie counting. I'm way more concerned at this stage of life with getting the most nutrition, and that is my biggest challenge. Seeing that today I basically ate refined carbs, is a reminder. I'm sorry about work. I used to grind my teeth at night from the stress so I…
  • Happy Wed. Plant Team! I just signed up for a produce delivery from one of the imperfect produce companies. I'm getting fairly bored with potatoes/cauliflower/broccoli and time to add some variety!
  • Sorry for the falling off the planet. I spent most of the last two weeks moving only from the sofa to the bed and back again. not Covid, but some kind of massive gunk in my lungs. I'm just kind of barely functioning now.
  • Cool! I feel like I was born with a WW tracker in my hands...so I've seen every permutation of the program. This one seems like the most vegan friendly. The new formulae seem to be more geared towards rewarding eating produce which is where my veganism seems to hit a major glitch. I'm fine with vegan, but way too light on…
  • Yep, WW can be somewhat weird both on-line and in-person. I think people tend to get too involved and it all goes off the rails pretty quickly once a toxic personality or two gets engaged. The new WW uses more of a reward system, and right now, I have a childlike need for some external validation! Your plan sounds yum!
  • Long absence, but now that I've found Mucinex and Primatene, I'm able to sit up and breathe (this isn't COVID,just a combination of allergies/cold). I just rejoined Weight Watchers. The program has become far more customizable and each individual is assessed and given one of three programs based upon their responses to a…
  • Thank you for asking! I got some Primatene mist, which is helping to open up my air ways, so I'm able to breath better. September 12th! I must say while I wish I had that 30 year old metabolism (starve myself after 3 days of cake/jelly beans and donuts) and still weigh 130, I feel that I've gained so much more than I've…
  • vegan here
  • Happy Weekend! I haven't been feeling well (not COVID, but lots of shortness of breath and chills) so eating has been fairly self-indulgent...but not over my calories.
  • I'm a plan aholic...I think I probably try at least 3 new planners a year...and I end up distributing them to my family. I just find the mere act of writing something down very balancing..once it is down on paper, it doesn't rattle around in my brain like marbles in a tin can! Pretzels and chocolate sound very…
  • Happy September all! Great title. I think I've lost some focus, but now I'm sort of getting in the groove of Pandemic Times. My goals are these: Preplan meals, stick to an eating schedule, stay within my caloric range, work out with weight 20 minutes a day, do 10k steps daily. I'm going to start a Habit Tracker in my…
  • That's very astute and well observed, Mihani. My downfall is ice cream and popcorn. My over 60 body can't take even a few hundred extra calories every week, cause almost instantly my weight starts to creep up. I took out my food weighing scale today, and even though the day isn't over I see "calorie creep"...who would…

  • Happy Monday: This a.m. I took all "my" food and placed it on our stove (we have those stove cover thingies) and that's my food for the day. I find if I start to rummage, I start to graze...so I'm going with the out of sight out of mind technique. Today: Protein drink with vegan protein, blueberries/almond milk ...I just…
