  • I recently discovered the same thing! I was at the Underarmor outlet and couldn't figure out why two nearly identical tanks were so different in price. Then I realized that one was Girls and the other Women's. Tried on the Girls XL and it fit just like the Women's small. Saved a ton of $.
  • Last week I ran past a group of my husband's male friends. I was was hoping they wouldn't notice me in my sweaty-stinky-end of-workout state, but they all turned and stared and then said "Hi, Jen!" A bit awkward, but I quickly forgot about it. My husband told me a few days later that they apologized for "checking out your…
  • How do you find a trail maintenance group? This sounds right up my alley!
  • I found some of this and gave it a try because I wanted something with a brown-sugar flavor. I really like it, but it didn't have as much of the caramel flavor you get with brown sugar as I was hoping for. I use sucralose drops most of the time. Sometimes I use sugar free syrups like Mrs Butterworth Maple Syrup or Torani…
  • The basic theory I've read is that you get more endurance adaptation at Zone 2, more anaerobic/speed adaptation in Zone 4. Zone 3 is kind of the junk zone. There's adaptation, it's just not optimized. The training I used when I went by heart rate was 80/20. 80% in Zone 2, 20% in Zone 4. Worked great for my half marathon! I…
  • Aldi has quite a few varieties depending on the season. And of course, being Aldi, the prices are fantastic. Spinach & Feta is good. Just got some pepper jack ones that are only a 100 calories per link, haven't tried them yet. And the Chicken breakfast sausage links are really good. You reminded me I need to pick up some…
  • I agree with the suggestion to walk more. Walk farther, walk faster, walk on inclines. Gradually increase all of this and then when your ready to start running, your muscles, bones & joints will be stronger and ready to run also. You don't need to run to lose weight. I went from 230 to 160 pounds with just walking and…
  • @Madwife2009 I know how this feels, because I feel EXACTLY the same way!!! Thanks for putting it into words - I haven't wrapped my brain around enough to be able to explain this feeling!
  • It's supposed to be easy at first. Concentrate on your form because the weight will get heavy very quickly. When you get to the heavier weights 5x5 will wear you out! I've been doing SL5x5 for almost a year and switched to 3x5 for squats a few months ago to keep my legs from being to tired to train for a half marathon.
  • Fitting into airplane seats was one of the reasons I wanted to lose weight. On our final trip before my husband was laid off from the airlines, we were lucky enough to get first and business class seats. I knew that from now on, if I wanted to travel I'd have to buy my tickets and fly coach. Wedging my fat behind in those…
  • For my palate, Halo Top is in the same general area taste-wise as Skinny Cow, but the macros fit into my range much better. Halo Top is a better snack choice when I'm low on protein. If I've already met my protein for the day, then I prefer to use any leftover calories on real ice cream (or COOKIES!) I never have been able…
  • I also do Stronglifts. I workout at 5 am every day. MWF are lifting days, TTh are running days with a long run on Saturday. Early mornings work best for me. Evenings are always a crapshoot schedule-wise, but nothing ever interrupts my schedule at 5 am. And I can be out the door and halfway through my workout before my…
  • Another HUGE Alton Brown fan, here! Learned so much watching that show. And in the same vein as Alton, but without sock puppets, America's Test Kitchen. I have a ton of their books and love how they teach techniques, not just recipes. I've always loved Nigella. She could make a bologna sandwich seem sexy. And Anthony…
  • Kodiak Power Cakes have 14g protein @ 200 cals. You can increase the protein by making with milk or Greek yogurt (or the eggs for those who like them). I make a refrigerator oats variation that runs 250-300 cals with about 20-25g protein. I use 200g plain Greek yogurt, 30g muesli, 100g fresh or frozen fruit (berries &…
  • I live in a town about the size of yours. I'll sometimes run on back roads, but I worry about traffic. Usually I use long runs as an excuse to go to area trails and run. If I'm going to be running 2+ hours, throwing in an extra hour round-trip driving isn't going to be a big deal. I get to enjoy some nice nature trail time…
  • That's why it's stupid to label an individual food as healthy or unhealthy. It's your overall diet that matters.
  • If you don't like videos or gyms don't do them. Just walk. Get outside and make it a point to enjoy the sun on your face or the sound of the birds. Listen to an entertaining podcast or audio book. Make it relax and unwind time, not exercise time. Have a treadmill? Set it up in front of the TV and watch one TV show a night.…
  • I'd totally go Indian Taco. I have no problem splurging on something special. If you're really worried, just eat half and load on plenty of lettuce and tomato.
  • How low cal? I just discovered Dark Chocolate Kodiak Power Cakes flapjack mix and love it. It's about 200 cals for a serving, but has 14g protein. I make it with egg whites and greek yogurt for extra protein & and a tablespoon of chocolate chips for yum and it makes an nice 300 cal high protein meal or snack that reminds…
  • Trust me, I could overeat and get fat on a "Clean" diet no matter which definition of "clean" you use. Portion control/calorie counting is the way to go - and it works for whatever food you prefer to eat - whether it's the Twinkie Diet or Low-Carb-Paleo-Vegan-Organic-Raw.
  • Did you cut your caffeine? That will cause wicked headaches. You might want to wean yourself off gradually if that is the case. In the meantime - Excedrine is amazing.
  • As long as you are in a calorie deficit (i.e. eating less than you burn) you will lose weight. It doesn't matter which exercise you do. Weightlifting will help make sure that more of the weight you lose is fat, and not muscle. But calories are what matters in the end. Edited to add: For warmups, read the website. Mehdi has…
  • I keep a tennis ball in my car for a spot that knots up when I'm on the computer all day at work. I probably look like I'm high as a kite to the other drivers on the road as I sway back and forth in the driver's seat. Need to get a lacrosse ball for home. Tennis ball works, but every time I drop it the dog grabs it and…
  • Netflix, Amazon Prime and Craigslist. I watch the first two while walking on the treadmill I got from the third. Getting off the couch curbs the snacking and increasing NEAT makes HUGE difference in TDEE.
  • Depends on the item. LIght sour cream? Nope. Not enough calorie difference to justify the taste, and fat free is a big heck no. But "lite" egg substitute on my egg sandwich, sure - it leaves more calories for CHEESE!
  • Totally get it. It's great to have those favorite treats, but can be so frustrating to deal with all the sacrifices you have to make to fit them in that it almost isn't worth it. I can't remember the last time I was able to have potatoes AND bread with supper. Only have room for one or the other.
  • Papa Murphys thin crust Delite pizzas are yummy. Angus beef is my go to, but chicken garlic & Thai chicken chili are also good and not too bad calorie-wise. For frozen, the thin crust Aldi take & bake pizzas are good and won't kill the calorie budget. I often top either of these with extra veggies before baking.
  • Cucumber slices and grape tomatoes are my favorite grab & go raw veggies. I can eat those plain or with a dash of salt & grind of fresh pepper. For low cal dips, I like Bolthouse yogurt dressings or Tzatziki sauce. And Laughing Cow wedges are great on celery. The Aldi knockoff versions are good and only 25 cal.
  • Thanks for sharing your experience! I have still been doing SL, just stopping the squats when I hit a warmup weight that was painful. Today I was playing around with my stance and found a narrower stance helped immensely. I'm almost positive it was for the same reason you mentioned - glutes. I can feel them engage much…
