  • I've had a busy few days both with my daughter and my parents so I'm just now sitting down to reflect on the week. I realize I should make a more intentional choice with regard to what I focus on each week. I think a few weeks ago I said I wanted to increase my intentional exercise, and I did that pretty well, but then I…

  • @izzyred9400 So glad you found your keys! I think after you lost your keys I realized I couldn't find my new, prescription sunglasses. It wasn't until I picked up my knitting bag that I hadn't used for several days that found that's where I had put them so maybe it is good to retrace our steps from the whole week!
  • @jessicakrall8 You did a great job dealing with that disappointment. I have many moments like this. I work hard to come up with a plan for the day and it's so annoying when it doesn't work out and you start feeling deprived. Lately, I've been trying to tell myself, "it's okay. You can have that thing you wanted another…
  • This used to happen to me! The last straw was when I couldn't find them right before I was leaving for the airport and had to figure out how to get there at the last minute. This was before Uber and taxis are unreliable where I live so it was very stressful. Since then I rely on my Tile device. I have one on my keys and…
  • It's called Targi. It's fairly new to us, but we've really been liking it. You're supposed to be a nomad collecting salt, pepper, and dates and turning them in for other things before the "robber" makes it all the way around the cards on the outside. It looks complicated, but it's not hard to set up and fairly quick to…
  • Thank you for the encouragement, Jessica. I needed it! @yukie86 Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite, too! Glad you had a bit of a good one!
  • Ncfitbit Monday weigh-in PW: 184.8 CW: 187.8 It took a lot for me to weigh in today. I’ve been up 3 lbs since Friday and I’m truly not sure why. My numbers have been on target I think. There was a little guessing on a Thai peanut sauce I ate a few days on a row but I don’t think I could be off by three lbs. worth of…

The 13th is just plain wrong because I grabbed my fitbit thinking it had finished charging and it wasn't charged at all. That was a busy day so I didn't have time to go back home and try charging it again.…
  • My cat Emerald loves to play with fire by jumping on the table when we play board games!
  • Oh, I hate when that happens! Good luck getting your new one. I love my Charge 4. My only gripe about it is the charging thing is a bit finicky.
  • ncfitbit Monday Weigh-in PW: 186.0 CW: 184.8 Way to go, @jessicakrall8! That is an awesome loss! Woo hoo!
  • 10/6-6,244 10/7-9,560 10/8-8,862 10/9-6,056 Congrats to everyone this week. Love to see how hard everyone is working, despite some struggles. It helps me see I'm not alone in sticking to the plan sometimes. This week I did my best to stay on track, even though my dad went to the hospital again, for another fall. (He's…
  • Woo hoo! Way to go, steppers. That's inspiring!
  • I forgot to say that I love reading, too! I don't read as much as I used to, but if I can force myself to put down my phone, that is what I like to do in the evenings. My favorite authors are Ann Patchett and Liane Moriarty, but I have to admit that I frequently return to my dog-eared Jane Austen or Charlotte Bronte novels…
  • ncfitbit 10/4-8,991 10/5-6,845 Captain's challenge Last week I was mostly focused on planning meals and making sure I tracked everything I put in my mouth. It was eye-opening how much I was used to eating "just a little bite of". It reminded me that I enjoy all my food more when I sit down and really enjoy it. This week my…
  • 10/3 steps: 9,194 Jessica, I think I said already, but my goal for October is 8,000 steps per day. I don't have a favorite place to walk, really. There are some nice woods near my house, but I think the walk I like most is whichever one I haven't done in a while. I like variety! I meant to tell you I live In Chapel Hill,…

  • Yes, that’s all I meant. Thank you for explaining what you do. When I have tried doing it in the past I felt like depending on how much tension I put on the tape or where I placed the tape etc I would get a very different reading, but I think I was just being perfectionistic. I just need to start and be consistent!
  • @Pupowl, I think that's a great idea! Do you have any tips about how to do it? I'm always so unsure how to go about it, but I figure it's a good time to start.
  • Thank you for the warm welcome and kind words, Jessica. I'm so sorry that you lost your mom and that you and she had to go through this and for so long, too. The more people I talk to about this the more I realize how many people have gone through it or are going through it. One of my daughter's friends has both parents in…
  • Hi Everyone! I'm a 53-year-old mother of two from North Carolina. I'm originally from Los Angeles, and also lived in the midwest before moving to NC, but I love it here and I especially love that we have four full seasons. I've had a lifelong battle with my weight, but several years back I discovered MFP and lost 24 lbs. I…
  • Love all the awesome suggestions here! I needed to read this today. I've been looking for a way to get my head back in the game after I let the pandemic and a family member's illness fool me into thinking it wasn't important to focus on myself. The result is I'm up 10 lbs. The only reason it wasn't moer than that is I'm…
  • Woo Hoo! Well done, you!
  • attending live concerts again!
  • Haha, I didn't notice that either. Glad you posted, @Jthanmyfitnesspal. The dancing banana alone was worth it, but your advice is spot on. Learning to judge success by our own standards is really important if you want to keep going. Other people will have different goals and life circumstances that affect their success.…
  • I recently went through the same pattern. It was very frustrating, but I stuck with it through the mysterious gain and a week later it whooshed away. In my case I think it was hormonal fluctuation coupled with a new exercise routine. In any case, I was glad I was patient. I think we'll rarely regret sticking to our calorie…
  • Two things. Most important is having a plan for it. Like @Danp I like to allow myself some chocolate, but for me it's important to decide ahead of time how much I will have. I can't let myself decide in the moment, especially if I'm tired. The second I have found helpful and continually trying to improve is being more…
