I just replied in your other thread - very likely it varies hugely by whether you are talking about uncooked or cooked oats.
-
They are very vague charts. Uncooked oats are around 1,700 calories per half kilo. Cooked oats are much less, as much of the weight is water.

Lose a few more kilos by mid May, and treat myself to a nice new dress to wear to a special occasion - I'm going to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace

A 1000 calorie dinner isn't a binge, no need to associate such a negative word with it. Most family dinners or other social dinners that have more than one course would be at least 1000 calories, and the OP described exactly the right way to incorporate such occasions in your reduced calorie lifestyle - eat a bit less…

I'm all for pre planning and weighing food, and I've been doing it myself over the last few months, but I think it needs to be done within reason, and wherever possible, by yourself. I wish you all the luck with your surgery, but I would definitely recommend you concentrate on getting better, and not worry too much about…

I turned 40 last June, decided I was ready to lose weight last October, and have lost about 15 pounds since then. I have at least another 15 pounds to go. I have been fairly meticulous with my logging since I started, even on dates when I ate over my allowance (my food log over Christmas was hilarious). But I am delighted…

I buy all my bras in Bravissimo, my size has ranged over the years from 30J to 36HH and various combinations in between, and they have the best stock of large sizes and good customer service. They have an online shop as well if you are not near one. But, I don't actually own a sports bra, so can't vouch for that…

In order to not just lose weight for the wedding, but succeed in managing your weight on the long run, invest time to learn. I'm really not saying it in a snarky way - it's time really well invested. Because, otherwise, even if you lose weight by crash dieting, how will you know what to replace this with when you stop…

In itself it won't do anything for weight loss. I love the taste of green tea, it's my favourite type of tea. I drank about five cups of it a day when I was obese, and I stil drink about five cups of it per day now that I'm merely overweight. But none of the change in weight was due to green tea, it was because I finally…

It's whatever works for you. The advantage of cooking from scratch is that you tend to cook way more than one portion of something - e.g I'm cooking a beef chilli today, and that will be dinner today plus lunches throughout next week. But cooking a single portion of something can be rather expensive. PS 8 dollars for 240g…

My sister's improvised Christmas log cake. It had sponge biscuits (ladyfingers) as a base, chocolate ganache filling with candied orange peel and orange truffle Bailey's, chunks of marzipan, and more chocolate on top. It was to die for, and a really good reason to be way over my calories over the Christmas week.

Today I had, for the first time, a type of Scottish smoked haddock called Arbroath smokies. Absolutely delicious. Made it into a soup with potatoes, onions, milk and a touch of butter.

I wonder about this myself. For example, yesterday I played music for solid four or five hours - and even when playing while sitting down, I'm much more active than sitting in front of a computer. I play folk music, so it's very rhythmical, lots of movement. MFP's exercise log has a clearly too high entry for playing music…

The only ingredient I'll avoid is coriander (cilantro). Thats because I hate it with a passion, and to me it tastes like rotting washing up liquid.

I've been eating about 1,500 calories per day for the last six or seven weeks or so, I think my diary is open to public. I try to have roughly 400 cal breakfast, same for lunch, about 500 for dinner and couple of hundred for snacks. My biggest lifestyle change is dinner - I used to eat over 1,000 calories most days, easily.

Couple of things that come to mind: - your weight is in a downward trend, which is great. Small steady loss is great, don't focus too much on losing a particular amount by the new year - Using a scale is something you'll learn the more you use it. You may be surprised to learn how few or how many calories are in certain…

Thyroid issues or not, everyone would have to eat very low to lose 2 to 3 lbs per week, that's a very aggressive rate for vast majority of people (unless they are very tall or very obese) OP, please don't listen to advice to eat less - what you are doing seems good, i.e. you are losing slow and steady. That way you are…

Thanks @christinev297 - luckily, I liked the Whole Foods chia pudding. It was made with coconut milk and almond milk. I bought some chia seeds today, so will be trying out some breakfast ideas.
-
Ha, thanks for the warning, Phrick. Good idea to try them first - luckily I live near a Whole Foods who sell a chia pudding, I'll give that a go. I think I should like them because I generally like gooey foods.
-
Do chia seeds need to be crushed before adding them to milk/ almond milk? Or are they added as they are? I'm thinking about buying chia seeds for the first time so I'm keen to learn to use them properly.

Terrifyingly bad science in that article, particularly the end bit about salt, which is laughable.
-
Why would a high metabolism diet want to ban caffeine - have they thought that through properly? Mini rant: Why is coffee and caffeine so often seen as evil by fad diets and wannabe nutritionists? Yet some other herbal things that "give you a natural lift in energy" as seen as a miracle of nature?

Luckily I never really enjoyed coffee with whipped cream or powdered creamers, I drink mine with semi skimmed milk. I am trying to get used to a bit less milk, as I used to drink it very milky - I now have about 90ml milk per mug rather than 130. I add a tiny bit of sweetener or sugar free syrup most days, sometimes a tiny…

Aren't honey and agave nectar also sugars? You can argue that they are used as replacement for white sugar, but surely in terms of your body's reaction to it they are just sugar.

I cook my porridge with water as well, to me it tastes absolutely fine that way (and means I can have a bit more porridge as well, for the same amount of calories). A tiny pinch of salt makes it tastier as well.

I set my account to "sedentary" and then let Fitbit count my steps. Walking is my only exercise. If I am completely sedentary, Fitbit tells me I burn about 1,850 calories a day (40yrs old, female, 166cm, 79.8kg). When I get to about 12,000 steps, like yesterday, Fitbit tells me I burn about 2,400 (but I try not to eat all…

Coffee in the morning, unsweetened flavoured green tea and other types of tea during the day at work, water (but not much in the winter), sparkling water, diet soda. Sometimes fruit juice. Sometimes whiskey with Diet Coke.

Ages ago when I was a student, I decided to eat nothing but strawberries for three days. I lasted about day and a half before giving up, and as a consequence couldn't face eating strawberries for about two years after that!

Hi there, I started six weeks ago, hoping to lose about 25 lbs, I am already about 9 lbs down. I echo the comment about moderation and achievable deficit: use the MFP tools to see how many calories you need to eat per day to lose sustainably, learn to make some good food choices, learn to have slightly smaller portions of…

My intuition is also to eat everything in sight  I currently weigh everything I can, but I'm also using weighing as an opportunity to learn about portion sizes, and that should eventually make portioning more intuitive. For example, I usually add 10g of olive oil to the evening salad meal (shared between me and my…
