For most people, yes. Unfortunately some of us are exceptions to the rule. I went from borderline obese (BMI 30) to normal weight (BMI under 23), and my cholesterol went from high normal to really high. I expected it to go in the other direction, but it went up,

I log all veg, but usually won't weigh things like spinach leaves or lettuce leaves, I'll log them appproximately. I don't log oil spray - one 180ml bottle lasts me well over a year, and I usually have throw them out when they expire and they are still not used up. To balance that out I do log my jelly multivitamins and my…

I've only first heard the term cutting used here on MFP, and I've mostly - with some exceptions - seen it used by men. So I've taken it to be a more socially acceptable way for men to say they were on a diet

Hi OP, I hope your situation will improve soon, and that you got some help from the food bank. Other things you could buy very cheaply: - most uk supermarkets will greatly reduce some stock that's about to expire, usually in the early evening. My local Tesco will sometimes sell large loaves of bread for 3p - Porridge oats…

I've been taking an iron supplement for the last couple of weeks (as prescribed by my doctor), and I haven't noticed any change in my weight or appetite.
-
Iron and vitamin D as I'm deficient in them and my GP told me to start taking them. Also multivitamins, just in case.

I've been eating breakfast around 7.30am, lunch around 12.30pm and dinner by 7pm my whole life, including when I had a BMI of 30 and now maintaining a healthy BMI. I guess I want to say both that 12:12 is a very non-remarkable eating schedule and not a fast, and that it has been entirely unrelated to my weight.

Yes, I have a sweet tooth and will always crave something sweet after a full meal. I had to learn to incorporate it in my daily calories - so about 300-350 out of my 1900-2000 daily calories come from chocolate or other sweet treats. I’m now maintaining at 136-138 lbs.

I live in the UK, and I visited New Orleans last October. I loved the food. We did lunch at Commanders Palace and it was one of the best meals I ever had. Other than that, I really liked gumbo, fried oysters, aligator bites, muffuletas...food was delicious.

It sounds to me like going from one extreme to another, and neither of the extremes is necessary. 2 pounds per week where you only have about 20 to lose is quite extreme. A whole week of overindulgence is another extreme. Why not find a happy medium somewhere in between?

My impressions so far - peanut butter cup 3/5, cookies and cream 3.5/5, cinnamon roll 5/5.
-
I was going to make the same comment - I’m 5’5, 42, and maintain on more than 1600 even if I’m bedridden - when active (11-12k steps a day) I maintain on about 2050?

I often observe how my thin friends eat, out of curiosity, and compare it to my own behaviour. I've observed different things with different people: - Some say "I'm lucky, I can eat as much as I want and won't gain weight". But, the secret isn't a super fast metabolism, the secret is that the "as much as they want" is much…

Two teaspoons of sugar 167 calories? Two teaspoons (not heaped) should be about 10 grams, which should be only about 35 calories? I personally never add water into the diary, as it has zero calories. Of course you can enter it, but it won't affect your calculations.

Excellent stuff! PS that's a very cute guinea pig in the background!

I wish the link between lowering cholesterol and lowering weight was always straightforward. I went from BMI of 30, 5,000 steps a day and total cholesterol at high end of normal (around 5) to BMI of 22.5, 12,000 steps a day, and cholesterol of over 7.

I lost just under 50 lbs, my bra size went from 34H worn with a back extender to 32E (uk sizes).

I love bread. I grew up in Croatia where people eat bread with everything, and where there's a bakery on every corner. There's nothing like freshly baked bread with salted butter. Yum. Having said that, I really had to moderate how much bread I'm eating, as it's one of the easiest foods to overeat. I could so easily eat…

That’s way more than lightly active.

@harrietmaley I seem to recall that one of the flavours was vegan, but I’m not sure which one. It’s worth checking.

Ha ha, today I have 4 calories left for dinner after a cookie incident after lunch. I wish I had 371 left!

I lost 48-49 lbs, over a year and a half, going from 185 to 136-137 at 5'5''. I deliberately took a long time to lose weight as I'm unable to function below say 1600 calories per day. Eating just a bit below maintenance was a great preparation for maintenance itself, which I've been successfully doing for about nine months…

I managed to find them at Whole Foods here in London. Quite pricey - £5.99 per tub. I bought the peanut butter cup and cookie dough, and liked both (just to make it clear I enjoyed a scoop from each, I didn't demolish both tubs!)

I’ve been suffering from and recovering from an infectious disease over the last eight days, and my activity level went from consistent 11-12k steps per day to hardy any. I’ve been eating at what MFP proposed were my sedentary maintenance calories, and lost nearly 2 kilos. Looks like my body needed extra calories to fight…

Same here, my Tesco superstore didn't have any as of yesterday. That's a shame. I'll continue looking,

Uh, not really *many* athletes. Almost no female athletes, and only some male athletes in select sports like rugby would be in the obese range. For vast majority of athletes, and vast majority of non athletes, healthy BMI is an excellent guide, providing a usefully wide range of normal BMI.

Ha ha, I always say if I win the lottery, I'd be hiring a sushi chef and installing a sushi conveyor belt that goes all around my flat.

Ooh! I'll have a look. Today. Even though it's the middle of winter. I've been a huge fan of Oppo ice cream last summer, so looking forward to expanding the choice of low cal ice creams on offer. I tried Halo Top once on a recent visit to the States and it was excellent.

Hi OP. Like you, I'm 5'5, but my starting weight was 185. The good news is that I've now been maintaining my goal weight of 137 for about 9 months. But, what you may be interested to read is that it took me about a year and a half to get to maintenance. Slow. Steady. Manageable. Maintainable. Lots of things I had to learn…
