That's exactly how I visualized it looking! Judy Blume is a master storyteller.

Quoting just so this picture appears again on this thread.

I log my gummy vitamins because they have calories. I don't bother with anything else.

If I'm not feeling it then I will make a commitment to do 10 minutes of the workout and then reassess. Usually I'll end up doing the entire workout and sometimes I won't. Either one is better than no workout at all.

I hate spin. I also hate any fitness class/routine that requires quick coordinated movements. So basically every fitness class except barre, Pilates and yoga since those typically have slower movements. I'm uncoordinated so I can never keep up or just end up falling over.

I use a gentle face wipe to clean my face after a work out. I use a cream cleanser in the morning and oil cleanser in the evening. If I start breaking out I will wash my face only once a day (with the oil cleanser; skipping the morning). I will spot treat with a product containing salicylic acid. I moisturize twice a day.…

I got stretch marks during puberty on my hips and breasts. It wasn't from being fat - just from growing too quickly for my skin. I don't like to classify any stretch marks as pride or shame inducing. Should I be proud of going through puberty or ashamed? Neither makes sense since I had zero control over it. Our bodies…

I'm 5'4" and have about 15 lbs left to lose. Feel free to add me!

I agree with this. There is a huge amount of information that gets tossed around and it's tough to filter, particularly since many sources that talk about health/fitness are just trying to shill their products. Even professionals and intelligent people get tricked by them.

I think counting calories gets a little tiresome when you're maintaining but getting on a scale every morning is an easy habit. My technique of weighing myself each morning and doing a quick check that I hadn't gained worked really well for the 5 years I was maintaining. Since I weighed daily I never got more than a pound…

I saw this thread and what kept running through my mind was the line from the Judy Blume book when the girls chant, "we must, we must, we must increase our bust", while doing an exercise which I thought sounded silly.

Are you taking any medications for those? It's possible the shakiness is a side effect. Glad to hear you're seeing a doctor next week!
-
When I last hit maintenance I continued logging for a few months and then just ate what I wanted. This wasn't a binge since I had acclimated to eating less for months. Then the only thing I watched was the scale. I had picked a three pound weight range above my ideal weight and if I stepped on the scale and weighed over…

Make your water delicious in whatever way you prefer. Sparkling water, flavor it with citrus/fruit, iced, served in a fancy glass, etc. PP pointed out it's possible you're already drinking enough water - check if your urine is already clear or pale. If it isn't then you're right about needing to drink more water.

It could be a medication side effect (started anything new?), deficiency (low B12 made me shaky with muscle weakness and low iron made me dizzy), or some other medical issue. Go to a doctor! Maybe it is just a case where you need to eat more. But you need to see a doctor to be sure.

Bin all candy that isn't a favorite - every kid has favorite candies so this should be straight forward. (Chocolate is not a category! More specific than that.) Then your kids can eat it slowly over time. You can put it in the cupboard out from their reach if you want to control what they're eating. And if they've selected…

I want to know this too. I like my oatmeal hot!

People who want quick fixes are generally not interested in or realistic about the long term consequences. And even if they acknowledge those consequences many are in denial about the possibility that something bad would happen to them. Easiest example - jaywalkers. They want to cross the street quickly. They may be aware…

You can be self motivated but still find the process more enjoyable with a group of like minded people. People you swap cookie recipes with or talk to about training for the half marathon.

I would see a specialist. I don't understand why your PCP brushed it off.

Feel free to add me! :)

And now we know that crap is only 20 calories a bite! ;) ...plastic? :D

I want to elaborate on freezing baked goods. Freeze it right away. Don't wait for a few days until it's borderline stale to freeze it. This makes a big difference. I would be too lazy to freeze the frosting separately. Put the frosted cinnamon rolls on a cookie sheet and do not cover it. Put it in the freezer. Check on it…

And chocolate also has insect parts! Yum. :p

I didn't think they did either but the food database says otherwise. :o

I don't eat pie every day. I usually make pie a few times a year and give some of it away so I end up with half a pie. Then I'll eat that over a few days. For a few days every few months I'm happy to sacrifice some calories from my primary meals for the pie. And maybe I even have pie for dinner one day ... Then again I…

I also wanted to add that another reason to not press this issue is that being reminded we need to lose weight can irritate many of us. When I'm reminded, even indirectly (and accurately), then I get resentful and think "Well &*#* that person! I don't care what they think so I'm going to stay the way I am!" If I were with…

Thanks for following up on this, OP. This really sounds like a situation where you've cajoled your husband into this diet, particularly due to the bolded part above. You shouldn't have to control what he eats or feel responsible for controlling what he eats. He should control what he eats. If he's not 100% on board with…

I'm a single person with daily calories of about 1,400 so this is something I've dealt with regularly although I'm still learning tricks! Over the course of the week I'll have less of a variety of things because I'll have leftovers more often. I also cook smaller portions if the recipe isn't going to freeze well. I don't…

Feel free to add me! I want to hear more about the aerial classes.
