"A focus on the message rather than the messenger." Well... the messenger is important. If the messenger has a dog in the fight (as this one does) the subject matter is subject to his personal beliefs. For example, if who ever is head of operations here at MFP published a "study" that stated, "People who use My Fitness Pal…

I don't know whether to laugh or roll my eyes. Everyone dies no matter what so.... LOL....

It seems everything can lead to heart disease and cancer. What else is new?

Weight loss is about what ever each individual chooses. Some people want to eat more healthful and nutritious foods. Some people want to eat all the processed food they like and not be over weight. It's all individual. For me it is not so much about looking good but feeling well. More nutrient dense foods tend to help me…

When the words, "correlation vs causation???" make me want to slap a fool.

I don't think it's a matter of not "feeling better" but rather the body trying to hang onto old ways. I know I both felt better and yet struggled with the beginnings of a new plan no matter how good the change was I was making.

If it's any where near PMS I don't even try it. It's like running against the wind. But once I do establish my new plan it does take a week or so for me to adjust. Especially when everyone around me is slugging down the junk food like it's going out of style. I have to just find new things to do besides sit around trying…

Yep. I am commenting on this old thing. :D This has happened to me more than once. This is usually a horrible time for me so I try to make an effort NOT to accidentally hit ketosis. The times that this happened to me it was so that not only was I not hungry, the idea of food was down right repulsive. So how in the world do…

Have you checked you pulse when this happens? I would make a point to do that. Then I would make sure to get enough things like potassium, sodium, and magnesium.

I was in about the 6th or 7th grade when my older brother brought home a baby squirrel. He found it in a friend's yard. (Yes I know he should have left it alone but what can we do about it now eh?) Anyhoo, we fed and raised the little thing as a pet. We had it for 2-3 years. Well one day my parents decided to bug bomb the…

I have absolutely shocked and appalled even myself sometimes. Nothing is safe! One thing I LOVE is to get a bowl (yes BOWL) of bacon bits, add a handful of sunflower seeds, about 1/3 a cup of any shredded cheese, a LOT of chopped green olives, maybe a chopped cucumber, and a nice dose of some kind of Italian dressing. Salt…

At the risk of giving too much info here goes! My "cycle" is short. About every 3 weeks Charlie stops in for a week. The entire week and a half prior I am like a wild beast with an insatiable appetite. Once Charlie arrives I have about 3 more days of this and then it subsides. Until that time I am hungry on a level that I…

HA! Posture indeed. That's interesting you say that because I did recently post asking about ways to improve posture. I am willing to bet that improving my posture is also serving my knees well. Thanks for mentioning that!

Oh yeah, I have pain around the traps sometimes also. I have become better at remembering to check myself. It was a struggle even remembering to work on it at first because the slumping became such a habit. It's easy just to gradually slip into bad posture. Too easy really. Good luck! I hope you can see an end to your pain…

That is surely possible. When I say I feel it in my lats, I am referring to the muscles about in the midway down and to either side of the spine. The orange area in the photo shows the area perfectly. What ever those are called, that is where I feel the burn. I will try out your stretches. Thank you!
-
Here is the video. This doesn't look like much but somehow it really gets the muscles to let go. When I do this I can feel my neck sort of popping back into place upon standing. Give it a shot and see how it does for you. https://youtube.com/watch?v=Iehtr8X3qMc

Thanks for all the replies! I won't do any direct quoting as that would keep me here for a good half hour addressing each thing. I will start with the yoga. I have been practicing yoga for about 12 years. I tried Pilates a time or two but somehow I just have not maintained the practice. Maybe I should take a closer look at…

I have a terrible time. I have to go all in or all out. Some people like to claim, "OH that's because you deprived yourself! That's why you can't step away from the Ben and Jerry's!" Well, I have certainly not deprived myself, yet I just cannot stop once I start. Then I hear, "You should exercise some self discipline so…

I stay on top of my iron pretty good. I don't feel like chewing ice as a habit or anything. But that is a good thing to keep in mind.
-
Yeah, that doesn't really work out. I feel sick from drinking so SO much. Last night for example, two 16 oz glasses of water later within an hour and I was just more thirsty. Sodium was mentioned, I didn't have as much of a sodium intake during my day as I had around dinner. Definitely more salt there most of the time. So…

Oh yeah. We are experiencing it. :p

It varies really. That did not cross my min before. I will make a point to pay attention to that and see if it is the culprit. Thank you!
-
Thanks for the replies. It's cool to see what others are doing. Now that I have my bad knee in working order again I have made an effort to increase my minimum at least each month. I suffered with a terrible pain and immobility in my left knee for a few years. I finally decided it had to be a baker's cyst from all I was…

Then why comment? No input other than that is pointless.

Thanks for all of your useful replies. I'm not going to the trouble to quote, but I will say this. I was asking just to see what other people are doing. Steps equal distance. That is why asked for steps OR MILES. Some people like to focus on their thousands others like to focus on miles. That's why I asked for either.…

I don't know what you mean by some of that. Here is an example of a regular pedometer. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sport-Line-Calorie-Step-and-Distance-Pedometer/15651412
-
It's fine. Thank you anyway!
-
I will also say this, because most pedometers are no longer available in stores it's very hard to tell simply from looking online. I hate wasting so much money on shipping at the time of purchase then having to pay to ship it back when the thing arrives and it is no good because either it isn't accurate, or the little clip…

I have been to Amazon, but I have found there to be a lot to dig through. I am hoping for someone with a reliable PEDOMETER, NOT FITNESS TRACKER , OR PHONE APP, to respond with what they have found to be reliable.

just popping in with an update in case it would be helpful to anyone in a similar situation. I have discovered that when I ovulate my heart rate tends to go a little higher than normal. It will usually stay high for 2-3 days when my ovulation begins. I went back on my calendar to that one day where my heart rate remained…
