  • I've been in maintenance for a year and a half and still log every day. However, I'm a little more lax now, compared to when I was trying to actively lose weight. I still weigh everything I eat at home, but nowadays I feel I can go to a restaurant and estimate the portions if the place I'm eating at doesn't have a…
  • There's an entry in the database for "Mixed Green Salad" or somesuch. I'm not terribly fussy about macros....I'll measure out a cup worth of shredded lettuce mixed with some carrot shavings, cucumber slices, onion, etc., and log it as 1.5 cups to overestimate just to be on the safe side, but I do weigh and individually log…
  • Like others said, as long as it fits into your calorie goal, it's not really cheating. That said, are you currently losing weight or are you in maintenance mode? If you're just looking to cut loose and not worry about it for a day or even a meal, I found that it was much easier to do while in maintenance, rather than…
  • Absolutely. A half-cup of ice cream is only 160 calories.
  • Dessert in and of itself doesn't make you fat, frequent giant portions of it do. I lost 45 lbs. in 6 months, and had a single-serving bowl of ice cream after dinner pretty much every night while doing so. Not low-fat, either, I'm talking full-on Choco-Mint Chip or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Like someone else above said,…
  • Could be a couple of things. Unless you're running on a track, the ground outside is going to be tougher going than a belt moving under your feet. When running outside, it seems the energy expenditure is greater because you are propelling yourself forward rather than running in place with the belt moving under you. Most…
  • Not gonna bother to log, but the last two days have been awesome, just eating whatever the heck is put in front of me. Tomorrow will also be a good one as I'm seeing an old friend from high school I see very rarely, so add another big dinner plus an ocean of beer. My guess is that I've gone over by at least 1500 calories…
  • Similar to Cindy's above, sometimes I'll coat boneless skinless chicken breasts with dijon mustard, then roll them in a mixture of bread crumbs and crushed garlic.
  • I'm at maintenance now. Basically, I've been trying to eat under my calorie goal during the week, leaving myself a nice cushion so when I get to the weekends and the attendant holiday parties/dinners, I can go over on those days while still staying at or near the weekly goal.
  • Since I've been on maintenance, I weigh myself once a week, occasionally once every other week. I'm more concerned with weekly calorie goals than daily at this point (one days I might be over by maybe 75-100, some days under by the same amount, most days right around where I need to be).
  • I'm basically going to eat and drink whatever is put in front of me, then go search out more things to eat and drink. It's only one day, so I'm not going to deny myself good food when I'm going to be surrounded by it all day. I'm going to log it as accurately as i can (have to eyeball dinner portions as I won't be at my…
  • This. Like others have said, I eat them back but leave a 100ish calorie buffer to account for possible errors. I've successfully been more or less at maintenance since the start of summer, so that seems to work, at least for me.
  • Thanks for the opinions, folks. I'm not gonna log it after all. My maintenance is on an even keel so I don't want to futz with it. So I guess the next step will be to start a Rush appreciation thread!
  • I'm gonna go with an off-the-beaten path here and say "The Prophet's Song" from A Night at the Opera. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZjjsrn9FY4
  • pincushion: I'll bet "Tom Sawyer" alone is worth 100 calories! :)
  • GauchoMark: I'm not drenched, but if I'm really going at it (playing some Foo Fighters or iron Maiden type stuff) then I'll have worked up a decent sweat, comparable to if I'd been power walking or jogging for a similar amount of time. Here's an interesting case study performed on the energy cost of rock drumming, using…
  • What worked for me is substituting. I'll still eat a single-serve bag of chips at lunch a couple of times a week, but I changed what kind of chips they are. Instead of regular chips, or Doritos/Cheetos/Fritos, I'll have something like those Special K cracker chips, or Popchips, or Glenny's Soy Crisps. They tend to be less…
  • When I was trying to lose weight, almost never, save for a couple of holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Super Bowl). Nowadays, I'm logging for maintenance, and I'm more concerned with weekly stats rather than daily stats. I'll generally have two or three "cheat" days a month, usually weekends. I'll plan for it…
  • 1. I log everything I eat every day, with rare exceptions. 2. If I skip logging, it's intentional. 3. Been doing it since the spring; before that I logged on MapMyWalk, so probably a year-ish total. 4. If I skip, it's because I'm on vacation, or it's a day like Thanksgiving, Super Bowl, or holiday. I've lost 45 lbs. ad am…
