  • I am in a similar situation. I ran a marathon 11 days ago, and i am running Boston on 4/20/15 What do I do? (Keeping in mind I've ran 10 marathons/ultras in the past 20 months) Usually run 65 MPW year round. I'm on a 220+ day "run streak". I ran my last marathon on 1/11/15 at 7:30 pace (ran a half at the same pace the…
  • Go to a doc or 2 or 3 until someone can help you out!
  • Lol sleep in car- I might have to try that :)
  • I've traveled about 600 miles in a car for a race. We split it up into 2 days because we left Friday after work... I like to get to the expo of a sunday race no later than 4pm if driving. I Drove 480 miles in one day got there at 4pm then raced a marathon the next day. It didn't make me too stiff but you know your body!
  • My favorite marathons are disney and Rock n roll vegas. Disney is by far my favorite. Starts in the dark, you run through all the parks. It's a very flat/fast course. Tons of stuff to see. Decent crowd support. That being said I've only ran 10 marathins & only 3 were "big" lol
  • Goofy challenge 39.3 miles 2 days :-) Half marathon- 1:41:17 full marathon- 3:19:21
  • That's a really great time for your 5ks! I know it's exciting when you first start running. You see a lot of improvements in a short period of time. If you keep running (mileage over time as others have stated), you will continue to see improvements. Running on a treadmill at a constant speed is very boring for most, so I…
  • Of the 40 pounds I've lost, I also lost 4 cup sizes :-(
  • Go to a sports doctor who does ART
  • True. A good coach with explain why :P OP- there are a lot of run coaches & elite runners who create articles online. I like reading articles on the same topic by multiple authors because I feel like I'm really doing my "research" and getting to know different views on the subject, Books are great, but if you pick up…
  • Id say getting a coach would be a better choice than ready a book
  • Holy fast
  • I haven't taken a rest day in over 200 days. I view my "easy" & low mileage days Kinda like rest days. Listen to your body. If you want to cross train- do that. If you want to sit or lay down all day- do that lol. Do what fees right :-)

  • I just found one scrolling on the marathon maniacs page. I Had been running for 5+ years.. My mileage was 40+ for 2.5-3 years.. I had ran 6 marathons in the past 11 months and just decided to give it a go. I did no specific training for it [it was just a 50k] other than 2 marathons the 7 weeks leading up to the race and…
  • Brr is right! Generally I do treadmill 50% of the time in the winter. But I have a dog who I run outside. She keeps me motivated! It's not too bad if you bundle up. It was -17f windchill on Tuesday which was a bit cold but threw a face mask and 4 layers on. It really only hurts your eyes/face. Also- it's much colder in…
  • Perhaps I did not explain fully. My goal for the first marathon was to run sub 3:40. I thought that was a very realistic goal for me at the time. In training leading up to the marathon I ran a 34:50 5 mile race & a sub 21 5k. When I ran these through a calculator, I was told around 3:20-3:24 as a "prediction", so I added…
  • 3150 miles for 2014. No goals for next yet but stay healthy :-)
  • I agree! My first marathon I had been running ~2 years. My "peak" mileage was 40-45. The marathon was a disaster [4:10] walked, cried, hated myself. I upped my miles over time to the 70-80 peak range. Within 2 years I was able to "race" more marathons taking over 45 min off my time. I gradually got faster & able to recover…
  • Congrats! Just treat it like a marathon only a hair slower ;-) 400ft sounds like a great first ultra! Good luck.
