Last year, my last outdoor run was beginning of November. I ran indoors from November until March. In March, I ran outside for the first time in a half marathon. I PRed by 8 min cutting my time down from 1:41 to 1:33.. After that, I confinued running exclusivly on the treadmill & finished my marathon training in the end of…

PRs should be quoted based on actual race results chip time. Almost every marathon I have ever ran has read 26.5 miles on my garmin. Also most 1/2 marathins are over 13.2.. When I used to use "apps" to track my running it was MUCH worse. Nike+ told he a 30k (18.65 miles) told me I ran 19.5 miles.. Perhaps I suck at running…

1:29:06 half today 4 min PR. :D 7th woman

I agree. Chipping down over 30 seconds per mile from 2 to 5 seems a bit much. If you are aiming for a 1:55:xx finish time (guessing) , you really only need to be averaging 8:46-8:51. On a flat course, your best bet is to make sure you are just running VERY EVEN effort and splits. Do not get excited and go even a HAIR…

I ran 12 on the treadmill yesterday because it snowed.. But I isually just layer up.. Hat, gloves, windbreaker jacket.

Start off with like lunges, squats & youtube the "myrtle stregnth routine".. Don't ise weights at first.. Seriously lol.. Start slow. DOMS could make you not want to run. I lift 2x a week. I lift heavy weights now and don't get DOMS as bad anymore.. Don't over do it when you start! Gradually add stuff. I like to do a lot…

Yes. It is going to take you years to be "twice as fast". Lol. Running is hard work. It takes a LONG time to improve. My 5k pace is almost sub 6 min pace. I run my easy runs around 9 min pace. It does work. You can't run hard every day
-
the stomach aches happen if I'm running them too fast The cold happens if I dont change into warm clothes and shower within a few min of finishing

I don't use food fuel anymore. My first 2-3 marathons I tried a lot of different "shots" "gus" "gels".. I hated it. Mainly because I never got the hang of chewing while running and it always left me thirsty! Since I cut out the whole "fuel" thing... I've ran 4 marathons (all of which I qualifed for Boston) and all training…

if training/focusing on shorter races or "off season" I usually run 30% less than marathon training mileage. I would do maybe 10-14 miles as my long run just depending which is usually 16-25% of my mileage. If i were you id keep it in the 30ish range if you are feeling "burnt out" or whatever. However, if you start feeling…

I started doing "workouts" (tempos, speedwork, hills, etc) after running for a few years. I took my 5k time from ~25 min to 22:30 in 4 months by simply "adding track workouts".. But then I peaked. I stopped improving. I was running the same mileage a week & doing track workouts all the time for months with no improvement.…

I live in minnesota. I've ran multiple spring marathons despite -50f windchills. Feels like 7 is about the coldest I like to do my runs outside. If it's colder than 10f, I typicall run my long runs on the treadmill. If it's snowing/blizzard conditions, I run on the treadmill. I don't change my training plan for the…

Not really. If I'm training for a 1/2 or less, my long run is always less than 25% but I run 65 MPW
-
I ran my first ultra last year but I would consider myself more a road junkie

Yes!!!!!

Lol I always do a 4 miler before my long run days. Perhaps I am being a slacker?! :P I need to step up my game!!

Yes. I started running to try to quit smoking about 6 years ago. I was pretty slow at first. I couldn't run more than 2 min... It was a huge struggle. It took me YEARS to even be able to run 5 miles lol. I didn't attempt my first marathon until 2 years ago. I ran 4:10ish.. I brought it from 4:10 to 3:45 to 3:27 now down to…

Usually get this after 2 hour+ runs. I got nothing for you lol
-
usually it's never more than 28%. This past week was 20% Not to say that you "can't" do 40%.. It just takes a lot more out of you. When I trained for my first full I definitely did more 35-40% . It was defintely exhausting!

AT is closer the HMP and LT is closer to 15k pace. It's a hair faster really but those 15ish seconds per mile jaha a difference. What is your recent 5k or 10k PR? I like to plug those guys into calculators to get a better idea what paces I should be hitting for my workouts. Chances are, your 5k/10k time will preject you…

Generally it looks very similar to marathon training for me. I just cut out the runs over 16 miles. Peak mileage a bit lower.. I do tempos and speed work during marathon training and half marathon training

I ran a 3:19 a few weeks ago during the goofy challenge (ran a half the day before) Usually I run 60-75 miles a week. Eat around 2600 cals (60/20/20).. I try to eat high nutrition value foods for the most part. Long runs between 12-20 miles every weekend around easy pace(sometimes fast finish around 7:10-6:50) My workout…

Good to hear. If you have the will, you will find a way :-) it's the most powerful tool in running!
-
That would be me lol! Given the same amount of information you have provided, I think you'd probably be okay to finish a full given you complete a 2-4 more runs at 14-18 miles- however I would do these on the ROAD because your race is on the road. Train under the same conditions you are racing in. "Trail" does not mean…

I think the health benefits of running outweigh the negative sides. If I had not alstarted running, I know for a fact I would be obese and still a smoker. I would have high blood pressure (when I was 19 my BP was usually 135/90).. I probably have to take meds at this point if I continued down my old "lifestyle" path. My…

Have you ran post injury without sleeves? Maybe you are just sore? Maybe they are too tight. I've ran multiple marathons & lots of races & long runs WITH and without. It's not normal to have calf cramps/calf pay for me. I mainly wear them during recovery at this point. I don't race in them anymore. Not sure why, just don't…

I feel your pain. I was training for chicago 2014 but I ended up getting injured. I am not sure what fluid in the knees means but it sounds serious. Have you seen a sports specialist? What did they Advise? Are you in the Minneapolis area? I ask because I am :-) I think like others said, don't Rush into it. I don't know…

You can do the 20 miles 4 weeks before..or turn the 1/2 into a 20 miler with a warm up & cool down
-
It's just a guess. Real vo2 max tests involve more than looking at your runs & HRs
