  • A handful of spinach is really not much spinach. Assuming it's an ounce of spinach (I'd guess it's less) will add about 6 calories, half your daily recommended vitamin A, and about 160% of your daily vitamin K, 10-15% vitamin C, folate, and manganese, and nominal amounts of anything else. And your body's ability to absorb…

  • You could buy plain yogurt and add pureed fruit to it. This wouldn't be too much work if you bought frozen berries, let them defrost some, and then tossed them in a blender.
  • The price of food can vary a lot depending on where you live. When my husband and I moved from Los Angeles to Houston our food costs dropped a lot--of course we were eating less fresh produce too, because produce here just isn't what it is in CA. Then I go visit my mother in Alaska and choke at $5+ a pound apples that look…
  • I'm not what you'd call the stereotypical "skinny vegan". A vegan diet is not a guarantee that one will be thin or lose weight, despite what some will tell you.

  • (1) You can't spot reduce fat. (2) Walking on your toes engages the muscles in your calves, which over time will increase muscle mass in your calves--in other words, making them larger. Reducing body fat overall will likely reduce the amount of FAT in your calves, which may or may not make them noticeably smaller.
  • Vegan. Not WFPB, but I do eat a lot of whole foods.
  • Call and ask your doctor's office this, not a bunch of random people on the internet. If they're closed now, call as soon as they open in the morning. I had badly impacted wisdom teeth. I put off having them removed for a long time because I was afraid. I suffered with terrible jaw pain. When I finally gave in and had it…
  • I'm not aware of any other methods of chemical leavening that are commonly available. I've seen really old recipes that call for other agents, but getting them would likely be difficult, and they may not even be safe themselves. You could try recipes that rely on mechanical leavening, but that will most likely involve…
  • As someone said above, I would be looking for a new trainer if my trainer told me something that ill informed. Mostly what you lose is a sauna is water, because you sweat, because it's hot. It won't "burn off fat" or "tighten skin".
  • This! Mmmm, peanut butter. Walnuts are also a good source of omega-3s fatty acids, as are hemp seeds, and hemp seed oil. If you are eating these, or any flax product, for the omega-3s make sure to keep them in the refrigerator and do not cook them for maximum benefit.
  • A tare function is huge, don't get a scale without it. On styles, I had one with a flush tempered glass top. I could never get the buttons to work right on it. Then it died after like 6 months. After that I got an Escali Primo, which has lasted over 5 years and I really like. It is difficult to read if you put a full-sized…
  • The (original) book Thrive has recipes for some things like this. There is one that is dates, coconut oil, and cocoa powder that I've used in similar situations. Normally you'd wrap them, but I think you could roll them in coconut or something and store them together. Date paste and peanut butter also works, although if…
  • Unless you have a specific medical issue, drink when you're thirsty. Problem solved. Edited to add, other liquids hydrate you, as does a lot of the food you eat.
  • Guy sounds like a complete *kitten*. Either tell him to f-off or don't respond at all and block the number. Unless he has anything important to you, then say "okay" get your stuff, and then tell him off. Seriously, no one who really cared about you would say something like this to you.
  • Elbow grip ayesha.
  • Being underweight and wasting are a serious health problems in the elderly. Putting on a few additional pounds through middle age is protective against being underweight in late life.
  • Define inappropriate.
  • Or I could just eat what I feel like eating and work it into my overall nutritional goals. Justifying eating a 1000 calorie snack because you worked out for half an hour is not going to lead to weight loss (if that's even your goal), but eating something you enjoy, because you enjoy it, and using exercise along with…
  • Assuming this guy is going to the gym and actually working out, he is putting effort into fitness. Also, on the same assumption, he is probably somewhat fit, what he is not, I am guessing, is thin. There is a difference between thin and fit, and one is not required for the other. I agree it's weird he keeps asking though.
  • Soy milk is relatively high in protein. Whole grains are higher in protein than refined grains, so that is a swap you can make that will help. Some grains, like millet and quinoa are also higher in protein than others. You said no beans, but both tofu and tempeh are high protein, and not like eating beans (even though…
  • It is possible. I've lost weight on psych meds. I've also maintained my weight on meds that are notorious for weight gain--it took a lot of exercise and careful eating. It may be more difficult, but it is possible. Your weight loss may be slower than that of others.
  • In an iron x your body is parallel to the floor, so just slightly different. ;)
  • I've been vegan for roughly 5 years, you can add me if you like. I strongly recommend reading Vegan for Life by Norris and Messina for good, evidence based information on vegan nutrition. Both Norris and Messina are registered dietitians, and provide solid information on how to stay healthy on a vegan diet. There is a lot…
  • Men do randomly send women they've never talked to dick pics and sexually explicit messages. It happens a lot on FB and Instagram.

  • Flirting is fun. If you make it clear that you're not interested in anything beyond that, it's not stringing someone along.

  • So much this. And there is nothing wrong with liking attention, there is also nothing wrong with setting reasonable boundaries, when people cross those, it is at the very least creepy.
  • This weekend I will probably drink a little too much and then eat more than I normally would. And I will be just fine. Health isn't about what you do occasionally, it's about what you do most of the time. And I still have a bottle of sparkling red left over from Christmas to enjoy. Happy New Year to me.
  • I'm SOOO glad I'm not the only one who does this. I love peanut butter on sweet potatoes. Also: On apple slices, toast, or spoons Sandwiches (no jelly, that's icky) Peanut sauce Mixed with oatmeal Stuffed into dates Occasionally in smoothies I use natural peanut butter with the oil poured off the top.
  • I'm vegan, and I really prefer people let me bring my own food. Because what happens when I don't? They put all this effort into making whatever, and then it turns out there is meat/egg/dairy hidden in some seasoning packet/they use chicken broth (duh), or they don't check the bread crumbs for eggs, and on and on. Or, it's…
