Turbo trainers get the job done but they aren't much fun. Zwift and similar products help. What motivates me to ride is to pick a destination on the map and to ride to it. Often that destination is a café or one of the city's tourists traps.

Caffeine can help but consuming it before your workout doesn't really do much. It's more effective to use it as a pick-me-up after you've been working out for a while.

Sell your car and start walking or bicycling everywhere. You will find that you are much healthier just doing ordinary stuff.

"Skinny fat" has nothing to do with how you look with and without clothes. "Skinny fat" is the colloquial term to describe the condition in which a person has a normal weight but they have other health indicators that indicate they have health risks similar to what a fat person has.

Typically, I burn 1000+. Yesterday, I burned over 3,300 while out on a bicycle ride.
-
I went for a 100 mile bicycle ride yesterday and I was four pounds lighter than I was the day before after a twenty mile bicycle ride. While I burned enough calories to lose a pound of fat the rest of that loss is due to dehydration.

I use clipless pedals and love them, but when I go for a short 15 minute ride I ride a bike with flat pedals. This is because I don't want to have to change shoes when I reach my destination and I prefer not to walk around in cycling shoes more than is required.

If the point is to make it as easy as possible, then why don't we just suggest she go out and buy a motorcycle? If she were racing then the marginal gains from tires with less rolling resistance would be worth looking into. Spending $10,000 on a carbon frame aerodynamic bike might also be worth it. But that's not what she…

RMR can help you make estimates, but other than that it doesn't matter. You can have the highest RMR in the world but if you aren't eating less than you are burning then you won't lose weight.

Step four is all that really matters. Step one is ridiculous. It would have me starting out at 3000 calories, which is only correct with significant exercise.

I usually go through a pot of coffee and drink a soda or two, plus a little extra, so I would say that I drink more than a gallon of water every day. When I go for a bicycle ride I drink even more. I just don't track how much I'm drinking. If it has no or very few calories then I don't care.

For a 15 minute bike ride? For a 15 minute ride, even the worst rolling resistance tire isn't going to cause someone to burn more than 25 extra calories over a slick tire. You're just encouraging someone to spend a lot of money to decrease the calories they burn by an amount they won't even notice after a few weeks of…

Go for a 30 minute ride a few times and before long the 15 minute ride will seem short and easy. There's really not any special training needed for a beginner doing a 15 minute ride. You just need to keep doing it.

It really depends on what your goal is. If your aim is to be invigorated for the rest of the day then it really wouldn't do you much good to workout just before bed. But exercise is good for you whenever you do it.
-
I'm guessing you heard this from someone selling supplements? Just eat some protein after you exercise and you'll be fine. There's no reason you can't get everything thing you need from normal food.

I test rode a bicycle with Di2 when I was looking for a new bike. It was a nice setup but I ended up buying a more expensive bicycle without Di2. It seemed to confirm my decision was right when I ran into some guys out for a group ride. They were making several stops and waiting for another guy who was having trouble…

If you don't buy them you won't eat them.

Assuming you are eating at a calorie deficit, sodium will only cause you to retain water and will not hinder your weight loss in the longrun. But excess sodium may make it harder for you to eat at a calorie deficit. Consuming salt makes it easier for us to eat more sugar. If you eat a bunch of sugar by itself you will…

I have to agree with the person who said, "Learn to cook." But another option is to walk or ride bicycles to wherever you are going to eat out. When I eat out I usually ride a bicycle to get there. My favorite restaurants are all about an hour away by bicycle, so I'm usually okay with eating whatever they put on the plate…

Zwift is great for making a dumb trainer more enjoyable.

It's doubtful that a brand with added sugar has more sugar than one that doesn't. Adding sugar is a shortcut to flavor. Brands without added sugar reach the sweetness they need by cooking more water out of the sauce. But sugar is sugar whether it comes from sugar cane or from tomatoes.

Don't count on it adding much to your TDEE. This is usually something people talk about when they are trying to justify eating more.

The new one does seem to be more consistent with what we observe among short and tall people, but keep in mind that the old BMI has a significant amount of research supporting it while the new BMI has little to none.

I use Zwift.

I think eBikes have their place for people such as yourself who don't ride very far or very fast but for me one of the reasons I like bicycles is because I don't have to plug them in or refuel them. If I want to go somewhere I can just get on one and go.

Actually, that is wrong. They do have power meters they just aren't using strain gages to measure the power. There is really no reason why strain gages must be more accurate than using the speed of the wheel and the resistance setting to calculate power output. Inaccuracy occurs when the speed of the wheel or the…

Considering that exercise does more to keep people healthy than weight loss, it makes since for health insurance to reduce premiums for companies with fitness related wellness programs and for companies to pay for gym memberships or to provide a gym on site. Employees with fewer sick days translates into a significant cost…

Drinking water doesn't make you puffy. Without sodium and carbohydrates to hang on to the water it will mostly go right through you. Foods high in potassium can help counteract the sodium. Aside from that your best bet is to reduce your intake of sodium and carbohydrates.

My guess would be 850 calories.

Women don't get bulky unless they are dosing on testosterone or spend a lot of time lifting. But for weight loss cardio is more effective because it burns more calories.
