  • This was meant to be Thursday's bento, but it became Friday's instead. Oven baked fish bites, veg (cabbage, carrot, broccoli, capsicum) and rice with furikake and an umeboshi
  • Hey, it snowed in the town I live in for the first time in like 50 years yesterday. That counts as cold in my book :P (just not Canadian cold...)
  • For ages I was going 'cold all the time? What are these people talking about?', even after losing 50kgs. This current Aussie winter though, blech. Leggings under my pants, thermal tops under my work shirts, hiking socks for being in the office. I bet I look like I've gained weight because of the extra clothing I'm wearing.
  • Wednesday bento: meatballs in tonkatsu sauce with veg (cabbage, carrot, Brussel sprouts and red capsicum) in a bit of chilli and soy, and rice with a really nice tuna mayo furikake and an umeboshi. 515 Cals.
  • An egg shaped egg? Blasphemous!
  • Yay for d&d! My name is my old WoW raiding character name, although I haven't played for quite a few years now. Yesterday's bento: marinated chicken pieces with veg, umeboshi and rice. Today's isn't picture worthy being leftover pasta with a sprinkle of feta.
  • You mean like a kitchen scale? No, there isn't. It'd cost a fortune to have a kitchen scale that had all the nutritional inputs for foods that syncs to your phone. There'd be issues about which food database was used as well methinks.
  • Bahahah, another confirmed addict amongst us. I actually made a bento and remembered to take a picture! Basic one; roasted carrot and orzo salad which i mixed some frozen spinach through and sprinkled some feta on. The other tray is some mini chicken dumplings with steams cabbage with a sesame chilli salt sprinkled over…
  • All of this. I weigh mine into 120g lots and freeze them in ziplock bag whilst the rice is still hot, then microwave it for 2 minutes to defrost. If I make my bento the night before, it's in the fridge overnight, then goes into a coolerbag and sits on my desk until lunchtime. If it's made in the morning, it just goes…
  • Most definitely on topic. I pre-prep and freeze single serves of carbs (these days, mostly rice and cornbread) and proteins (marinated chicken/pork/beef pieces, meatballs, chicken wings, dumplings) and my veg I prepare nightly. if you're having blanched/steamed veg, I guess you could cut up and store everything you cook…
  • I kind of feel insulted that you thought this was an advertisement. You make Kyoko chan cry. Every time someone asks about the fancy containers, I say they're not a necessity, but a luxury. As to cheaper, most of mine cost less than AU$3 per container. The purpose of this thread and the concept of 'bentoing' (at least the…
  • Oh, and I am around, sneakily 'liking' and 'awesoming' posts, but as to bentoing, life has put a lot of my food prep time on hold, so hence my lack of pictures. Seeing everyone else's pictures keeps me all warm, fuzzy, and bento'd up inside :D
  • I have quite a few that are around that size and smaller that I can get a 500Cal lunch in to - and I've found that depending on the food, you could get 500Cal into a 200ml container if you really wanted to, so yes, it would be big enough. If you have a 500/550ml container (or two smaller ones) that are gladware/tupperware…
  • Same here. One day I'll remember to get the pictures off my android and just do a massive post. How dare work distract me from the bento thread....
  • My basic recipe is: - 125ml unsweetened coconut milk - 45g oats - 2 tsp chia seeds - sweetener of choice (honey, brown sugar, maple syrup, lemon curd, jam) I have a few variations Tropical overnight oats: - 10g shredded coconut - frozen mango chunks Chocolate: - 2 tsp cocoa powder (unsweetened) - 1 sliced banana (also…
  • There are beetroot chocolate cakes (I don't have a specific recipe, but google is always our friend), and I know I've seen a recipe somewhere for a cookie-pie that used white beans as the main filler.
  • It peeves me to no end not having a filter or search function on the website version of the food diary. Because of this I mostly log on my phone, so you can filter items to make things easier to find. If you label your recipes "dessert - Blueberry tart", "Dinner - Egg & bacon pie", you can just search for the tag through…
  • People who walk down busy streets staring at their phone, shuffling their feet slowly, not walking straight. How the hell am I going to run past you when you're wandering like a drunk? Then you swear at me for running past you too close and scaring you. *walks off muttering*
  • I fart like a trooper these days. My poor husband wonders who he married methinks. My nephews on the other hand think it's hilarious.
  • I'd want to buy a c**k & balls and take them to work just so I could tell people what I was eating in the office lunchroom (and wear a raincoat to protect myself from the spit-takes). Honestly, I've never had anything like this happen in my workplace. Then again, our team promotes an active and healthy lifestyle. I'm more…
  • I'm 6'1 and currently an AU18 (sometimes 16) which is a US 14 (sometimes 12 :D ), so around the same size as you. I don't think I'm going to sit at this size forever at all. I expect that I'll probably end up being an AU 12 by the time I'm done (I doubt I'll get to a 10). I think in the end, it's a combination of your body…
  • You made me lol :D Awesome nerd jokes are awesome!
  • In the end, the reason I started this thread was not about the 'traditional bento' using traditional Japanese foods (indeed, many of them aren't great for those with low Cal limits), or the awesome boxes (although awesome boxes are awesome :D ), but more about using a smaller box to control portions, lay groundwork for…
  • Waist trainers don't do anything to help you lose weight. All they do is squish your internal organs into horrible positions and make you generally uncomfortable.
  • I second this! My doctor thinks that because I run around my city's botannical gardens, it's either EIR (the article in the first reply), or that my increased VO2max is increasing the amount of pollen I inhale, causing hayfever and my occasional mucous explosion when running. In terms of solutions, have an armband to wipe…
  • You'll actually find that most traditional shaped bento boxes are long and narrow and stack up, so they're actually really good for panniers. Most of my boxes are only about 3 inches or so wide. There are also sets of 3 round ones that stack up quite high, so that could work as well.
  • You know what makes me sad? That having the greek yoghurt regularly for breakfast made me discover that I'm lactose intolerant, so I can't eat a lot of dairy any more :'( Some cheese on occasion, milk in my coffee, and a small serve of icecream now and then (and even with only a small amount... gassy :( ). These days I…
  • Two reasons: 1) If I became any bigger I'd be at the largest size in the only decent Australian plus size brand that catered to a younger age bracket (I didn't want to have to dress like my mother) 2) I would rather eat less than live with chronic back pain a moment longer.
  • I'm 6'1, and I lost 20kg (45ish lbs) before I went down a pants size. Now, at 120lbs down with another 45-50 to go, smaller weight losses make a bigger difference visually. I just keep reminding myself of the laws of volume. There isn't much difference between an 1cm cube and a 2cm cube, but there is a massive difference…
