I will see if they do that at my kids school! We're in kind of a rural area, so I'm not sure we will have a participating group here, but that would be really great for her!

Under 30 would be amazing... I'm shooting for 35 for my next one.

Thanks! Running has never been my "thing." Even as a kid, I hated it, and was bad at it; mostly because I have flat feet and naturally lousy form, as it turns out. By the time I got to high school, I blew both knees out playing football. I developed a lifelong aversion to running, thinking there was no way I could handle…

Finished in 37.09. I'm stunned - I thought 38:00 would be pushing my limits. I'm looking at another one early in April already...

Yeah, I'm in Tonopah (west of Phoenix) and there's no gym nearby, so I have to get a little creative.

Maybe it's a boy/girl thing... my 11yo son is slower. But I tell you what; my daughter ran my last prep run with me yesterday and she's still faster than I am. Gonna have to encourage her to give track a try when she's old enough at school.

That's awesome! I find that having a race to train for definitely helps keep me motivated. My 9yo daughter crushes me - she's very athletic.

In a lot of cases, you just have to be selfish when it comes to health and fitness. You won't always get support. It's nice when you do; but jealousy is a common human failing, and you'll see it everywhere.

Smile!

Accurate accounting is important to me, because I believe calorie counts are just the first step - you need to spend your allowance on the *right* calories to maximize your gains.
-
1402 is plenty for one day, especially if they are GOOD calories.

Don't expect it to come back off in a hurry - but it will come back off. You've done it before, you can do it again. Bear in mind, it always gets a bit tougher as you age, but also consider you are bringing more to the table as far as wisdom, and the confidence that comes with a prior successful experience.

How tall are you? How old are you? Any particular diet you are following?
-
I hardly ever *eat* breakfast. But I'm good at keeping my shaker cup clean. ;)

Early February was bad for me - I really regressed. Got out of my running routine; just a ton of work getting in the way. But you'll be surprised how fast it can come back to you once you get back at it on a regular basis. Adding strength training helps a lot as well. I noticed a lot more pop in my stride once I began…
-
Indeed it does; although I find it helps to have a little healthy carbohydrate especially if you're exercising.

Hair!

That's awesome! My first 5k (on Thanksgiving) was around 42-43 minutes... Unless I come up injured or not feeling well, I should beat that and set a new PR; I've lost a lot of weight and I'm certainly faster now. 40 or less is my goal; 38 would make me REALLY happy.

I'm of the opinion that the artificial sweeteners screw with your metabolism almost as badly as the real thing. Even though there's no carbs/calories, what it does to you chemically is not positive, and you're better off quitting altogether. I know it's not easy - I was a six-pack-a-day soda drinker (at a minimum). I quit…
-
Cut out artificial sugar. Especially soda, if you drink it. I lost 30 pounds in a month after quitting my Mt. Dew habit cold-turkey.
-
Yep.
-
I'm active daily - definitely helps having friends for encouragement and accountability!
-
You've come to the right place.
-
I started with a ton to lose; the sodas were the biggest culprit. Dropped 30 pounds just quitting them; no other diet/exercise. After that, I got a little more serious - I'm down over 60 pounds now, looking to shed about another 20.
-
I'll be doing the Run to Fight Children’s Cancer at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix on Saturday - anyone else going?
-
Yeah - that's what I'm afraid of; I'll have to learn to drag my butt out of bed early. :(
-
Mine's public.

Always looking for more friends!
