  • Thats pretty much where I ended up on it. Full credit to her, she was doing great, yet it annoyed me I couldnt do what I wanted to do. I started at this gym because it was affordable and I wasnt sure I would stick to it. Sooner or later I think I might "graduate" to a better one depending on finances and how I progress. I…
  • What sort of training did you do? Thats really impressive! I dont think I can run to the end of the street without feeling like Ill have a heart attack, I love the idea I could make progress like that.
  • Its not something Ive done before, quite new to all this. And the weight she was using was WAAAAAAY more than I would need, seems to me like it would be more trouble to both of us than its worth. As I say, Im conflicted with it. I know when I reach that stage though that I would do my best to get in there at times I know…
  • I had this the other day. A girl was doing a heavy squatting session in the rack (impressive weight!) but she was in there the whole time I was in the gym. After about an hour I got fed up and did my squats in the smith machine, which sucked. Its conflicting for me. On one hand, full respect to her for being so serious…
  • For the first week or so do not try to keep pace with them, try to do the exercise with good form and purpose, but at YOUR pace. You are not as fit as them, so dont try to push yourself beyond your current limits. Go at a pace that allows you to work hard, but get through the workout. You will get stronger, fitter and…
  • Have another go, if you get to 5 minutes 30 seconds you have improved. As rabbitjb says, over time you WILL improve, just keep plugging away at it.
  • My first 5x5 session was a Friday morning, early. Going to bed Sunday night I could barely walk, it was bad. Monday morning I went back to the gym, was fine, and have been ever since. It seems people were right when they said it gets better. I do find my legs feel weak/fatigued after a workout, but certainly no discomfort…
  • I was going to say almost exactly this. Ive been 7 times, also had a week holiday breaking it up, and already I feel really good. I dont believe Ive bulked at all, would be silly really, but I am finding everything feels kind of "tighter", or firmer. It leaves me with excitement to wonder how I will feel after another 7…
  • I never bought into Shakeology or the meal plan, but I do endorse T25 - I think its a very good workout. Especially for an absolute beginner like me, it did wonders for getting the fitness train rolling, getting me into good habits etc. As for the whole thing as a package? "Eat 1200 calories a day, including meal…
  • Initially it was to get as close to 12 stone as I could. Havent weighed that since I was a teenager and previous weight loss attempts stalled at around 12 st 5lbs. Then I got to 12 in November so just kept going through to new year to see how far I would go. Ended up at 11st 8lbs. So then going into maintenance I decided…
  • I dont go to Subway, but if I end up in McDonalds I go for the Nuggets, fries and diet coke - 580 calories, give or take, which isnt too bad at all.

  • I would suggest after 60lbs lost you will have many changes. Problem is as weight loss is a slow process you just adapt and often dont notice. I bet if you took some time to think about a normal day in the life for yourself from the beginning of your journey the difference would be remarkable. 60lbs is amazing, dont lose…
  • The only real benefit for me is time management. In the evening I have other things to do, by working out in the morning the rest of my day is "free"
  • I have no experience or knowledge of this type of scale (though I would guess they are far from reliable). I just wanted to say, BEST USERNAME EVER.
  • I did think of that but the way the place is set up it would have been a nightmare. I may have to do it anyway if it happens again!
  • Absolutely. Right now my glasses keep sliding down my nose, the never used too! My face was always very round, now it is not and I actually have cheekbones! I had fat under my jaw, now its all but gone. I used to have a crease around the back of my head that has now disappeared. I was quite shocked by just how much was on…
  • Im afraid you have answered your own question. There are plenty of workouts to build the abdominal muscles, but this will do nothing for the overlying fat. Although, with myself, I did notice that strengthening my core muscles greatly improved my posture and in turn made things sit a lot better. Look at your tummy. Now sit…
  • Good for you! A few words of advice, from my experience (take it or leave it!) - Read everything you can. Blogs, studies, comments on here... You will pick things up that make a lot of sense (just be prepared to filter out some nonsense!) - Accept it is a long game. It took a long time to get into the shape you are now,…
  • Ive found a pet peeve today. I started my session and there was a guy on the bench press. Thats ok, I need the (thankfully vacant) rack anyway. I do my squats and Im supposed to bench next, but he is still there. So I move on to rows. After fnishing them I really want to bench and... he is still there. In the end (for the…
  • This is one of those times I wish MFP had a "like" option :D
  • Either that or tour the gym asking if anyone wants to work in?
  • Ive recently taken up stronglifts (literally last week!) and even at the minimal weight it recommends a 90 second break between sets. As the weight gets serious this could become several minutes at a time. It is simply part of the process. Ill be waiting as long as is necessary in order to perform the workout as well as I…
  • How were your legs the day after your first session? I started on Friday and still couldnt walk comfortably sunday night!
  • Glanced down the page, saw "Yes I am" and the tiny profile pic and thought "Topless?"
  • I found laziness was a virtue at times. Late night snacking. I fancy some biscuits. Can I be bothered to go get them? Nah!
  • I cut nothing out, but I did find healthier, less processed foods filled me up more and "cost" me fewer calories. Eating these foods more made it very easy to stick to my calorie goal, and also very easy to have "room" in that goal for some treats. I still go to KFC, I still eat crisps, I still have biscuits... All I do is…
  • Decathalon is well worth checking out as well. Its a european chain, and so the brands are unfamiliar (and very cheap) and yet its all quality stuff. I kitted my daughter out with everything she needed to go camping with the scouts for £60 (boots, trousers, fleeces, coat, under layers, long johns, camping chair...)
  • I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly dead 2 the other day as well! I really like that guy and think he comes across well. Seems to me the juicing thing gets misrepresented a lot of the time. While he did promote people going full juice for a while (a "reboot", what the hell?) I think thats just as a kickstarter. His main message…
  • I had to keep it simple. I think it helped that I was a total noob to anything like this and so in a way a lack of knowledge really helped. I didnt over think things, just stuck to that calorie goal and the rest came naturally.
  • Stop making it something "extra" you must "stick to" and start making it "just what you do". What 'it' is should be something you can manage/stick to. Its how I did it. If I perceived anything as an extra effort I inevitably ended up finding it to taxing/losing interest/losing enthusiasm. This time round I changed my…
