How did it go?
-
That one was a real break through for me. Once I got past 10 minutes I wasnt dying so kept going. Then it was 8 minutes to go, then 5... by that time knew I was going to finish the 20, there was no way it wasnt going to happen. Afterwards I couldnt believe what I had done, it was a real "moment" for me Good luck! Im sure…

The first thing I said in this thread is that BMI works well across a population, but can be flawed for the individual. I have recognised for many individuals its perfectly fine - but for me personally it is not and therefore I pay no mind to it. It has me as bordering on obese, and I am most certainly not. WHILE not being…

Of course its a more extreme example, but the point stands - BMI hasnt enough nuance to accomodate people who are outliers. So, for me, its not worth paying attention too. Of course there are plenty of people who sit within its parameters comfortably and for them its useful. I just think its important to recognise it isnt…

@robininfl my brother in law is similar. Over 6 feet tall and naturally very thin. Perfectly healthy but of course an outlier on the BMI scales. This is where I think it is useful when applied to a population, people like you, me and him, all kind of average out to the "norm". To an indidual though, as we show, it can be…

I totally get where you are coming from, and respect that view. Perceptions are often quite skewed arent they? And Ive seen many people I would consider still over weight talking as if they are wasting away. In my case its not that Im especially lean or muscular or any of that. I am well aware I stand to lose some weight,…

Small steps. Lots of little, simple choices add up to a big change eventually. The only other thing I would say is to echo those above who suggest finding something you enjoy. If it turns out you love a good hike then make time to do it, its a great work out and wont even seem like exercise. Perhaps sport is your thing, or…

Of course. You need to be smart about what you drink, and just make sure you keep to your calorie goals. For example, a friend of mine switched from Lager (200+ cal per pint) to Vodka and Diet Coke (about 60 cal per drink, if memory serves)

I always understood BMI to be good for use against population figures, but very unreliable for the individual. All of the outliers at either end get averaged out and it becomes more reliable. For me personally its nonsense. Im not particularly muscular, I dont have a low body fat, in general fitness terms Im quite average…

BMI is BS, pay it no mind.

I have a similar thing. No trouble going to sleep at all, but somewhere around sillyO'clock I will wake up and be wide awake with no chance of sleeping again, no matter how tired I actually am. Its like this pretty much whenever I drink, no matter how little. Also, "Tolerance", what is this?! I have absolutely none now!

This is what I was going to suggest. A lot depends upon your starting fitness, assuming its "not very [fit])" I would suggest trying T25 first. Think of it as more of a beginners routine, and Insanity being somewhat advanced! I started with Insanity, never finished a workout. I was flat out on my back every session, and it…

I figure its like exercise. You need to be consistent. And to be consistent you need to find something you can actually stick too. For some thats simple calorie counting, others its Paleo, Keto, or any other number of things. Personally I stuck to CICO, and set it to a modest loss rate so it allowed me to actually eat, and…

What do you want to achieve?

I did a bit of googling at the time, "OCR gloves" or something like that, apparently there are extra grippy ones out there which Id look at if i do another. Also, it seems lots of people take a belt/pouch to keep things like gloves in and keep them dry - though that seemed a bit serious for me!

This is what I was going to say! I did a Spartan race earlier this year and took away a few big lessons 1) Upper body strength is required. At least, the ability to pull yourself up a wall etc 2) STAMINA is most imporatant of all, so run, a lot 3) Look into apprpriate gloves/shoes. I didnt, I wish I did...

This! I started with the Zenlabs app, but switched phones, lost my progres... anyway, ended up just getting the NHS podcast and thought it was a hell of a lot better. Cheesy music was better than none at all, made it much easier to stick to

I found for a while I bought lottery scratchcards, basically to satisfy the desire to go into a newsagent and buy something over the counter!

Awesome, sounds like you may have hit that tipping point. Its been a whole day - how is it going?
-
Any chance of going to a different gym?
-
Be patient, it takes time Be consistent Be patient Keep it simple, no fads. CICO, exercise if you can/will, eat well but not obsessively Be patient Recognise the wins on the way, every lbs should be celebrated And if I didnt mention, be patient. Its a slow process.

For a while I knew I wanted to do it, so I did spend a lot of time working it into my subconscious. Eventually it must have stuck!

Sounds to me like maybe you arent ready yet. I smoked for over 20 years. Tried giving up several times, with the best of intent, and failed every time. Over the last year or so I cut down to about 5 a day. Then I started to stop smoking the whole thing. And even so I couldnt shake it. And then one day something just…

If its anything pre-packaged Ill scan the barcode, maybe have to guesstimate how much of it I had. Yesterday I had an egg and bacon sandwich, so I searched "egg and bacon sandwich" and then looked at the average amount of calories from the results. Then I just picked one at the higher end, I try to be conservative in the…

I have no history of ED issues or anything like it, and I loathe the idea of measuring everything. I should say, up front, if it works for you thats fantastic, Im happy for anyone who finds what works for them. For me? I wouldnt last a week. My mind works against me with things like that, as soon as I added something that…

I eyeballed everything. If there was a 600g packet with 4 chicken breast in it, Id put one down as 150g and think no more about it. Just the idea of a food scale makes me miserable and I know, 100% certain, that I never would have stayed the course had I used one. The only advice I have is to take a higher estimate when…

This is what did it for me. I signed up to a Spartan Race and knew I needed to be in reasonable shape to do it - that gave me the motivation/discipline to stick with things. I hope it will do the same for you! Word of warning though, once the race was passed I have struggled to get going again. Thankfully by now Ive been…

Im English and I dont have my weight on mine either. Date of birth, picture, address, but not weight.

Exactly. Early on I waited about 60 seconds between sets and was out of the gym within 20 minutes. 6 months in I was waiting 3 minutes between sets regularly, and it took a lot longer! In each instance I was waiting so long as I felt I needed to, just later on the lifts took so much out of me I needed real time to recover

Its just a basic one, but ticks all the boxes for me - lets hope someone gets it for me!
