I got your point. Since you claim to be well-educated in biochemistry, I was asking if you found Fung's account plausible, so thanks for the confirmation. I agree the actual content of his course syllabus is rather immaterial, as I also understand that it is possible that his account is true. However, I believe it is near…

Very much this. If you don't have a specific deadline for your cut, you have to weigh the repercussions and intangibles. I like to start my cuts really aggressively, even when starting at an already pretty low bodyfat, but I eventually bonk and have to throttle back on the deficit. If you are too tired to even get off the…

To be fair, that OP did not promote that diet, and specifically mentioned that he did it as a temporary experiment. His high level of energy expenditure also ensured that he was not reaching inadequate levels of any macros or micros.

I don't know about food addiction, but I personally have been having a hard time kicking my oxygen habit. Haven't been able to go very long without it for the last 40 years. Those withdrawal effects are pretty rough.

Would you prefer to wade through a forum of people repeating the same irrational nonsense opinion in perpetuity or at would you at least like to see them attempt to formulate and present a position based on a rational observation that is demonstrably tied to some form of logic?

Many people are saying that domestic felines are a leading cause of the epidemic.

Ironically, a single Big Mac contains 11% US FDA percent daily value of magnesium, 11% potassium, 25% calcium, 28% zinc, significant amounts of various vitamins, and a whopping 52% protein.

So you find it plausible that a person who is competent enough and puts in enough effort to pass a class that is an entire semester worth of macromolecules and metabolic pathways never realizes that it applies to humans because the professor did not explicitly announce that humans are animals? I am not buying it. I am also…

Eggs are one of the rare things I never weigh either. Gotta have faith in the law of averages sometimes.

Oh, hey look, here is a picture of a plate of cookies from my Thermo 101 textbook, chapter 1-11: Thermodynamic Aspects of Biological Systems. Global CICO Cookie Conspiracy confirmed! Stating that you studied biochemistry at an accredited university and the human body was never discussed is as bizarre as stating that you…

"I studied biochemistry in university and took a full year course on thermodynamics. At no point did we ever discuss the human body or weight gain/ loss." :open_mouth: I'm guessing he did not get stellar marks in his biochem or thermo class.

In my experience, high fat:carb ratio dietary intake can make it more difficult to accurately measure CI because of some of the amplified errors associated with high fat diet (how much oil is left in the pan, how much oil is left on your plate, etc.). But if your numbers are accurate, it could be indicative of another…

Sorry, I was joking, didn't really try it. I wish I could afford it. I was drooling just reading about it.
-
I agree. I once splurged on this $3200 high-quality steak. After that delicious meal, I couldn't afford groceries for the next two weeks, so I lost a bunch of weight really quickly.
-
Maybe, maybe not. I typically gain a few pounds when I take a diet break at maintenance, but very little of that regain, if any at all, is fat. If you have been at deficit levels for 2 years without taking a break, then it is definitely time for one. Your stall could be a sign of an unfavorable hormonal profile causing…

Aren't there any options that don't involve drinking lipids?

The science shows that lifting actually reduces hypertension: http://www.precisionnutrition.com/weights-for-hbp http://hyper.ahajournals.org/content/35/3/838.full https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10720604 Your said your doctor already cleared you, so get thee to the gym.
-
Have those 5 lbs come on pretty evenly over the 9 weeks, or was that mostly from the start of the bulk? I am assuming you are weighing often and tracking your weight trend or average, right?
-
Why are you waiting to hit the gym? If your goal is aesthetics, and you are new to lifting, you should be able to make some noticeable muscle growth even while losing weight.
-
Awesome progress. I always thought there would be a minimum body fat floor where the body would just resist recomping any further fat loss, but I guess not.
-
Didn't you say elsewhere that you are down to about 7% now? Are you still recomping, or did you move on to a bulk? Wouldn't you be at a point now where theoretically recomping would just be spinning your wheels (maybe some slow strength gains)?

40 years young.

You can claim to be a hyper-palated clean chocolate connoisseur, but I know that both you and Raptor will secretly try them.
-
I don't remember exactly how long it took because that was 17+ years ago, but no, leaning out back then was pretty easy and I could drop 1-2 lbs a week without too much suffering. Agree with others above that aggressive bulks/cuts got less productive and harder as I got older.
-
Contreras there is contrasting recomp, clean bulk, and dirty bulk. All 3 are very different things that will have very different results. They suit different people depending on the individual's goals. Recomp limits you to your current weight. A person with low body fat who wants to gain muscle will have to do a bulk of…

The limitation listed in that study is so spectacularly confounding that I am not sure how they even secured funding.
-
I think you took a wrong turn somewhere in your research. Where have you been reading this? I usually eat higher protein during my cuts. Sure don't add any noticeable amounts of muscle when I am cutting.
-
What can't be done with a bar, bench, and a rack? That's all I have, and there are only a couple of useful bodybuilding lifts that I miss like flies and the hip machine. There is a list of programs here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10332083/which-lifting-program-is-the-best-for-you/p1 If you need help…
