  • @greenolivetree: Thanks! I'm getting there. Not sure I'll be getting up to the 12 I'd like to before my half on 9/12, especially with a 10-day UK vacation thrown in the mix, but I will try my darnedest! @skippygirlsmom: Someone I went to high school (and college) with posted photos of her kids' first day back to school.…
  • Thanks, @MNLittleFinn. It's been a slow and steady build back up to 13.1.
  • Yesterday evening was cooler, but it was super humid! I started to fizzle out at 4.5 miles, but I pushed through with a few intervals thrown in during miles 5 and 6. I was running on a ~3 mile rail trail about five miles from my house. It's not my favorite place to run, but it was a nice change from the cemetery or running…
  • @karllundy: haha You're welcome. I struggled with the injury last Spring/Summer. I struggled with not being able to run, I struggled with the PT, and I struggled with the constant pain I felt even months after starting PT. No one could even really figure out what I did, and when and where it hurt seemed to almost baffle…
  • @karllundy: I think your plan of every other day is a good one. I've had hip issues in the past (I was out for a good five months last Spring/Summer/into Fall last year). When I got back into running late last October, I started running no more than every other day, and I've had no hip issues, since. It was actually the…
  • Thank you! Anything's helpful. I did some googling, but it's always nice to have the opinion/research of others.
  • Thanks, @MNLittleFinn! I was thinking along the river in Dublin would be the way to go. We'll be staying less than a half mile from there so it'll be easy to get (run) to!
  • Hello, all. I posted a question to the group discussion page: Running in the UK While on Vacation. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  • As always, thanks for setting this up, Stan! I failed to meet my July goal, but not by too much. According to my half marathon training plan, I should be running about 70 miles this month, so I'll make that my goal.
  • @MNLittleFinn: Thanks. The coffee maker I use several times per week has a timer on it (on days I'm not using that, I'm using my French press). Unfortunately, it takes me at least an hour to wake up in the mornings. I am an absolute mess otherwise. I think what I need to try to do is wake up, put running attire on, and…
  • My run yesterday afternoon awesome. Had I had enough time, I would have done another couple of miles, but even the four was pushing my time limit. It was a few degrees cooler than it had been. The temp dropped from a quick storm that blew through the area about a half hour before I went out, so it was cooler, but super…
  • Well, my 4-6 mile run turned into a 3-mile run, yesterday. After the first mile, I felt absolutely awesome. At mile 2, I was a little tired, and around 2.5 miles, I hit a wall. I felt like I could barely move my legs they were like big lead blocks. I wasn't far from my house, so I decided to turn towards home. I pushed…
  • @5BeautifulDays: I knew some competitive cheerleaders when I was in high school, and they never ran. I think that is awesome! I have the Wave Inspires, and my boyfriend has the Wave Riders. We are both big fans of the shoes. My Wave Inspire 12 are one of the most comfortable pairs of running shoes I think I've ever owned.…
  • So, I took a couple days off of the message board (and running) because of life, and I came back to over 250 unread posts. I briefly skimmed them. It seems like everyone is fairing pretty well in this heat, so go you! I was going to go for a run after work, yesterday, but we had some nasty storms come through that started…
  • @RespectTheKitty: That is so awesome! Congrats on your sub 40:00 5K. It looks like you're well on your way to a sub 35:00 soon! Re: Beat the Blerch Half: I was soooo sad last year that I was running the Dogfish Head Dash in Delaware the same weekend as the Beat the Blerch Half in New Jersey. My only consolation was that it…
  • It seems as though I miscalculated my running plan mileage, and I will probably come up a little short of my 50 mile goal for the month. Yesterday's five miles was the best run I've had in months. I ran the first half on a very hilly section of my "village" and the second half was my usual loop through the cemetery and…
  • @RespectTheKitty: I did one virtual 5K, and it was organized by a running friend who's sister passed away a few years ago, in her 20s, from an asthma attack. I never knew my friend's sister, but the race was in her honor and set up as a fundraiser for an animal shelter she volunteered with. I figured "why not" and…
  • @kristinegift: Great photos! It looks like a lovely trail to run along. @Stoshew71;37141964: Wow. That is quite the adventure! I'm glad you and everyone and everything is safe and well! Good luck with the car insurance. I know that part can be a pain, sometimes.
  • Last night's run was cooler than it had been, but about twice as humid. Today looks like it would be an awesome day for a run, but I am, unfortunately(?), going to dinner and then to see Paul McCartney right from work, so no run for me. 07/06 2.50 mi 07/08 3.00 mi 07/10 2.00 mi 07/12 3.00 mi 07/14 3.00 mi 07/16 4.00 mi…

  • I haven't had much time to go through the board, lately. I'm lucky I've been finding the time to get a few miles in here and there! I really, really wish I could get my *kitten* out to door in the morning before work, but in order to get even just a few miles and shower and whatnot in, I'd have to start my run between…
  • I drink water room temperature because I simply don't like cold water. I also tend to chug water, and chugging something ice cold isn't always very fun. I honestly never knew there may actually be some benefits to drinking room temperature water.

  • Firstly, welcome to the challenge! I think you'll find there is a wealth of knowledge on here, and everyone is just wonderful. I discovered this group around the beginning of the year (I think), and it has been a great experience so far. I even got to meet up with one of the regulars at a race a few months ago! Secondly, I…
  • I don't think I ever sweated so much in my life, but I managed to suffer through a 2.5 mile run yesterday evening. Slowly getting back on track. 06/06 2.50 mi TOTAL 2.50 mi GOAL: 50.00 mi
  • Darn it. I should have read everything for replying. Sorry for the multiple posts in a row, guys! I am certainly no expert, but I don't think it's a stretch at all, especially with his seemingly natural ability to run. He'll have at least 18 weeks to train. I think most half training plans, even those for new runners are…
  • This sounds exactly like you described my two-mile run, yesterday. I've been making a lot of adjustments, myself, and I really haven't been doing much running in the summer heat, yet, so I chalked it up to all of that. Good luck. I'm sure you'll kill your next run!
  • That sounds like an absolutely awesome trip. Have a blast, and I can't wait to hear about it!
  • Good to know. Thanks for the info! I had wanted to do it last year, but already had a vacation planned for somewhere else when I found out about it, and this year, I had wedding to attend, so I couldn't make it, either. That is crazy that it went from 450 people to 1800 in only one year!
  • @cljoe7 & @Elise4270: Thank you. In all honesty, this group has helped me recover. I found you guys about a month after my mom passed. Reading the posts every day or two and being challenged and held accountable helped motivate me and keep my mind off of things. Seriously! I'm hoping @zoe2434 has a similar experience here.
