I have mfp set to for me to lose 0.5lb per week, so about 1kg per month, which for me means my goal is 1530 calories (+ exercise calories). I shifted from 1lb per week towards the end of September. It is really slow, but what has helped me to track the fact that I am still losing has been my mean weight calculated…

What is your normal range for maintenance? If you are consuming more chips, cheese and wine than you have been during your period of maintenance, then (as you already know) you need to plan to consume a bit less elsewhere in your diet planning, or plan to move more in your exercise planning.

Could you buy shoes online? I realise it's a risk, but you could choose somewhere that lets you send them back if they don't fit. That sounds debilitating. I really sympathise: I was in lockdown on my own for three months (but in the spring, so in the light) and saw very few people. i found it exhausting and depressing.…

This is a weird discussion as it is up to each of us how we use mfp. However, since I have more mfp friends I have discovered another reason for only telling mfp when I reach a new low weight: mfp is set to notify friends if what is recorded is weight lost but not if it is weight gained. One of my friends is frustrated as…

Here's a Christmas ad's take on this question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz1q8NWbExc&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR1B4ioL5HsA_kTkUO_LZY0ZsbZvrEYRBGYJmI6rWQP5GGrmrnitpDEWmJY. It may make you a little weepy...

I was back up to 76kg this morning, having been 75.5kg yesterday. However, I think I have a fair chance.

Using natural waist, the RFM calculator gives me 35%. Using the "waist" measurement taken as they suggest it gives me 38%. (I'm pretty straight up and down.) I have nothing to compare this with except the photos someone posted of female body fat percentages, but I would say 35% is probably the right order of magnitude;…

I wonder what you mean by portion control? What I mean is realising that eating 100-150g of pasta per head at a meal is not one portion but two. That we don't need to be preparing 500g of potatoes for two people. Or that if I am cooking mince (ground beef?) for two, 250 g is more than enough for both of us as the basis of…

Wow! Well done!

That's amazing! Well done! I started lower than you so my goals have been about getting from 195 lbs to 165 lbs, and I now only have 1lb to go. Like you I was not only looking at the numbers but at the percentage of my loss I had achieved. It really slowed down towards the end, and I have had to look at other stats to show…

I am through it now, thankfully, but peri-menopause was like (or worse than) being a teenager again: no idea what would hit when (physically, mood-wise); months on end of two weeks of bleeding, then a week off, then several months of nothing, followed by heavy bleeding and back to the two on one off; completely…

For me this was certainly not the case. (Sadly!) I grant that I have never been out of the overweight category into obese, but I have been right on the boundary. What I had to learn about losing weight was that for me it is mostly about portion control.

Halfway: that's really impressive! And such a steady loss.

Normal range bmi: congratulations!

Actually, I find that if I weigh first thing, and then exercise, then weigh again I have often dropped between 0.5kg and 1kg from the first weigh-in. That's important for me to know because I some days I do weigh after exercise because I don't have access to my scales beforehand. I completely agree that a lot of this is…

Well done you. (And that's amazing: spot on!)

What a great story. I am 56 and I really resonate with this bit of what you said: "Bottom line: Counting calories with some body movement WORKS. It just works. It's math. I personally kind of think that some of the other diets like keto and such are not for me. I think the body needs better quality food, and MOVEMENT. And…

Name: Charlotte Age: 56 Height: 5'11" (180cm) Maintenance range: 75kg (+/- 2.5 kg) Weight lost: 86kg to 80 kg (January-August 2012); 85 kg to 69 kg (October 2014 - March 2016); 88kg to present weight (May 2020 - now) maintained (i.e. was below 77.5 kg, and mostly below 75 kg) from February 2015-July 2017; was then put on a…

I really sympathise with the menopause issue. I am 57, and I also thought low carb might help me. It turns out that for me it was definitely not the way forward. I have lost 30lbs since May, but wasn't feeling all that well on it (very low energy levels) until I upped my carbs (and fibre) and cut my fat to get myself…

I can't relate to this at all. As I said above, I eat full fat (cheese and butter mostly, but also yoghurt, the odd dollop of creme fraiche and sometimes cream). I try to keep my fat calories down to <35%, though some days they go up to >40%, and I aim to eat around 45% of carbs in my daily intake, though sometimes it's a…

You look really great!

And this morning (7 December) the scale was hovering between 75.8 and 75.9 kg without my having exercised. It might be back up tomorrow, but this morning it was below 76 kg. That means less than 1 kg to goal! I wonder if I might be below 75.5 kg before Christmas? We'll see!

Good for you for catching it comparatively quickly! I let mine creep up to the top of "overweight" before I took action. Your way is much better!

So sorry hear of your loss, but glad about your new relationship. My husband is a wine buff, and I find it sometimes presents some challenges to balance our love of wine with my wanting to stabilise my weight. Good luck! Its not my thread, but I think it would be great if you were to come back and post here. I am in my…

This is a really good, an important, question. I lost down to my goal weight - and indeed 5kgs beyond - a few years ago, maintained (sort of: my monthly averages were creeping up gradually) for getting on for two years, then developed acid reflux and was put on a protein pump inhibitor and gained 2kgs within just a couple…

This obviously works well for you, which is great. I have been doing some weekly weigh-in threads here alongside my daily weigh-ins, and I found my weekly weigh-in showed a much much more erratic picture than than my daily weigh-in (plus trends). For instance one week back in early November I had daily weigh-ins of 77.1,…
