I just finished the 12 week strong curves beginner program and really enjoyed it. I did see results after the first month. Overall, I lost about 1.5 inches off of each of my thighs and feel like my butt is much firmer. I was also eating at a calorie deficit, which is necessary to lose weight. I would suggest taking photos…

I think your plan sounds fine. I started out doing SL and had great results. I really fell in love with lifting. As was said, you should only increase weight once you can do the full 5x5 at a certain weight and with good form. Increase by as much as you feel comfortable, even if it's only 5 pounds. As for a warm up, do the…

Whew! I feel a lot safer now.

But this thread is a monster. That cat needs to be wearing a shark suit.

I was doing a 5x5 but just started the Strong Curves program to switch it up. I doing the 12 week beginner program but there are several other programs to follow, as well as a ton of alternate exercises.

Resistance training is lifting weights. Body weight exercises (squats, lunges, etc) also count. I go to the gym 5 times a week. I resistance train 3 days, and take yoga and Zumba classes the other two. I've found weightlifting to have the biggest positive impact on the shape and composition of my body, as well as how I…

I agree with taking advantage of any free training. Your program will totally depend on your goals, current fitness levels, and how often and for how long you can go to the gym. If you provide some of this info in the forums, there are lots of different programs that others will recommend.

I have muscle-y shoulders and I think they're one of my best features. Do what makes you happy and healthy and don't worry about what others may be thinking.

I was doing stronglifts but got bored doing the same exercises. I started strong curves last week and really like it so far. There are a variety of exercises and the program is spelled out for you so you know what your workout will be.

I lift on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday roughly following the Stronglifts format. I often to bodyweight or ab exercises between sets. Tuesday is mostly cardio and Thursday I take a zumba class.

If you want to look toned, weight training is a good way to go. Stonglifts 5x5 is a good starter program. I do both lifting and cardio but lifting has definitely had a greater impact on how I look and feel. And it sounds like you're getting your diet in order, which is the other key. Feel free to add me if you need some…

Hey! It took me several tries to log on a daily basis, but I've finally got it! Feel free to add me if you need a friend.

Hey Melissa. I'm Brenda. I'm a stay-at-home mom to an almost 2 yr old boy. I breastfed him for over a year and can't imagine trying to lose weight while doing that, so mad props to you. Feel free to add me!

In a few months/years when you're one of those buff people owning the weight room, are you gonna look down at every newbie carrying around a few extra pounds? No, because that used to be you and you remember what it was like. Chances are, a good number of those buff boys and girls weren't always so buff and totally…

Even after all the videos and research, if you're still worried about looking foolish, go to the gym when it's pretty empty (maybe early morning for a college gym?). You'll have access to all the equipment and time to get a feel for the weights and how much you can lift for each exercise. Doing that just once will make you…

I'm 5'7" and currently 165. I'm hoping to get down into the 150s because I have never been that light as an adult. I think your goal weight should reflect your build and your fitness goals. I love to lift weights and feel strong, so I don't think I'll go lower than the 150s. The hubby also likes a little junk in the trunk,…

I often wonder why my mom never stopped me. She didn't have the best eating habits either, but she KNEW better, even if she didn't lead by example. Now that I'm a mom, I can't imagine letting my kid just eat whatever. I guess one of the reasons I'm on here is that I'm trying to be the example my mom wasn't.

An entire can of pringles coupled with a 20 oz of mt. dew. I did this EVERY DAY one summer as a teenager.

Hi! I'm Brenda and I live in northeast North Carolina with my hubby, my 22 month old son, and my two cats. I've been crocheting since I was a child and learned to knit while waiting for my son to make his appearance (2 weeks past my due date). I've had an MFP account for a while but just started using the whole community…
