  • Thanks for all the support, everyone. I really appreciate it! @elise I hope you hear something soon. Maybe you should pester them! I wish I had asked for the pathology report. I am going to try to get a copy on Monday. My gp seemed upset to tell me and didn’t give me any other info than the biopsy was positive for…
  • C25K W4 D3: 1.96 miles (treadmill) MTD: 11.65 / 25 I had a stressful couple of weeks; which affected my sleep. I skipped my run on Thursday. Managed to get back to it today. So, I had an itch on my mid-back that felt like a scab and stung in the shower. I couldn’t get a good look at it and forgot about it for a day or two.…
  • All of this ^^ @shanaber said it so well
  • Love the monthly answers and race reports. Congratulations, everyone! And wtg @katharmonic on the sled; that must have felt wonderful! Yes, all those in the path of the hurricane, please stay safe. Those racing weight charts were a bummer. I haven't been the "non-runner" weight of 140 since I was in my teens. I've already…
  • 09-08 C25K W4 D1 - 1.95 miles MTD: 7.76 miles / 25 miles Had one of my walk portions interrupted by a driver asking for directions. Then, I got all mixed up and felt like I had to start my next 5-min run right away without a rest. I felt amazed that I had run for almost ten minutes without a rest, but Garmin disagreed and…
  • @travelling_lots I just went through this and was off for a few weeks. I'd never had such pain and I couldn't stand up straight or roll over in bed. Walking was very hard and I couldn't take a full step. I thought it was my glutes, but my physio said I had sacroiliac joint dysfunction. He did some manipulation around the…
  • @Elise4270 Sorry. I can relate a little. I was excommunicated once I left the "religion" at 17; I am effectively an orphan. I have had to learn everything the hard way. It's weird how some parents don't want their children to better them. Glad you found a way to go all on your own! My son will be the first person in my…
  • Sep 6: 1.94 miles C25K Week 3 Day 3 MTD: 5.8 / 25 miles @sarahthes I'm the same. My last half was exactly 3 hours. There is one I'd like to do, but the cut-off is 3 hours, and it sounds like it will take ten minutes for those at the back to cross the start, so I won't do it until I know I can finish in 2:50. I am loving…
  • @eponine1984 Thanks! Yes, I feel exactly the same. It is part legs and part just convincing myself it can be done. I like the treadmill and going a steady pace as I cannot do that at all outside ... but I hate how slowly time passes on the treadmill and driving to the gym to use it. @PastorVincent That’s good advice. I…
  • Sep 2 - 1.93 miles C25K W3 D1 Sep 4 - 1.93 miles C25K W3 D2 3.86 / 25 miles The week-three jump to three minutes of running at a time has been tough. I am already stressing about the next leap to five minutes in a few days. I've realized that I have to go slower than feels natural, and I accept that I'm a slowpoke, but…
  • So sorry for your loss @amymoreorless Happy birthday to the September babies! I have been trying to restart running and keep getting sidelined by injuries. The last one was a doozy with SI joint dysfunction and hip flexors so that I could hardly walk, roll over, move, etc. I couldn't stand up straight. But a little physio…
  • To me, it sounds as if she is struggling and any sabotage is unintentional. Perhaps she bought that food for her son and didn't want it around the house if he wasn't going to be there, because she knew she'd eat it. She didn't send it to you but rather with him (and maybe she feels you are strong enough to not eat it if…
  • A pal just showed me this thread. I started her first 30 day program in December and switched to her new one on the 1st/2nd. Have managed not to miss any so far. Been loving my new daily yoga. The bright spot of each day.
  • Thanks! Hubby took this photo last weekend when I was annoyed while waiting for him. It was a hit on Facebook, so thought I’d use it here too. It makes me laugh every time I see it. I need to work on my patience. I read racing weight and this was similar, but I got more out of this book for some reason. No cookie meal? He…
  • I just read The Endurance Diet by Matt FItzgerald. It has confirmed my suspicion that counting calories for the last three years has led to a deterioration in my diet quality. So, I've started allowing myself to eat whenever I'm hungry, as long as it's healthy. I'm feeling a lot more energetic and I haven't gained any…
  • Congratulations @shrcpr ! I bet that was a gorgeous and scenic race.
  • Ha, no, whoops. I wrote that wrong. The rain stopped when I crossed the START line.
  • Congratulations @katharmonic and @Iporter229 - so impressive! Nov 12 – 3.17 mile Vancouver Fall Classic 5K My knee had been bothering me since my workout on Thursday (I wasn't able to straighten it - zoinks!). I took a couple of rest days and woke up this morning feeling great. It was stormy and pouring rain, but the…
  • @_nikkiwolf_ I live in Raincouver and I always wash mine by hand with a gentle liquid detergent and hang it up to dry. I was told that you lose the waterproofing through washing, but Gore-tex has these instructions online, which say you can throw it in the machine:…
  • @7lenny7 Thanks! That's awesome you have that at your work. I'm getting used to the treadmill, and I like the ones at the gym because I get to run virtual trails all over the world, which keeps it pretty interesting. I don't love when the incline changes and the treadmill jolts up or down suddenly, but I'm getting used to…
  • Thanks @MNLittleFinn . . . I didn't want to scroll back either lol Clutzes unite @Elise4270 ! @RespecttheKitty That is sad and amazing. I run backwards once in a while in a warm-up and can barely manage 30 feet without falling.
  • Nov 8 – Strength, 1.85 miles 1-4% incline run/walk treadmill, 10 floors on beastly stair climber machine, and 4.36 mile hike Nov 9 – 2.05 mile easy run MTD: 11.14 / 50 miles I tried out the stair climber machine yesterday for a few minutes . . . to 10 floors. It was as terrifying to start as it looked. It tried to eat my…
  • Hugs @RespecttheKitty . Hope the meds settle down soon. @PastorVincent . . . I have no knowledge or experience but as an objective observer, I think a 50k the weekend after going for a marathon PR sounds like the beginning of a cautionary tale, especially since you've mentioned you have heart issues. Be careful. Go with…
  • @bjderhak pf is really tricky. I mostly got rid of mine by doing a calf stretch every hour or two. It took about two weeks. I still have to do it daily (and I first got it about seven or eight years ago). It is always there, waiting for an opportunity to flare. I wear Sketchers sandals in the house that look like…
  • Ha, I was going to try the elliptical when I joined the gym but haven't yet. There is a stair machine that I'm interested in and also terrified of. One girl was going up it sideways, backwards, etc. She was pretty impressive. It's so tall, I'm fairly certain I'm going to get overtired, miss a step, and tumble down. Still,…
  • @Elise4270 Sounds like you have your answer: take it easy doing whatever you want. >:) Do you have access to something lower impact for a couple of weeks to see if the pain improves: biking/elliptical/strength training? Too bad I couldn't send you one of the Zero Gravity runners from my gym. Nobody ever uses them, but they…
  • Today I did Matt Fitz's long intervals and, for the first time, I didn't walk at all during the rest portions. Go me! Nov 7 – 2.54 miles MTD: 7.24 / 50 miles
  • @Elise4270 Yikes. What a conundrum. Sorry!
  • Ouch @JessicaMcB . I was born and raised in Calgary. I remember that happening all the time. And ski masks were no good, they would just get glued to them. It is cold here too. Below zero. o:) Seriously though, I feel colder here indoors than I ever did in Alberta. Our insulation must suck and electric heat is the dumbest.
  • I had to look up Dopey’s Challenge. Wow! Sounds tough. A pretty neat thing to save up for and work towards @PastorVincent !
