  • Like others have said, go slow. I started with c25k and now am a regular 10k racer. Although, racer is being kind. And my race running pace is not much ahead of my race walking pace. As an aside, running has sped up my walking. Also, running is a bit of a mental game. Don't let the idea of running miles get in your head.
  • That's the one thing that struck me as crazy. 20+ pair socks? Surely that's a typo.
  • I have a running tub. No headwear but approximately: 8 pair socks, two running tights, one winter running tight, about 5 pair shorts, 3 long sleeve shirts, 5-6 short sleeve shirts, 4 sports bras, running fanny pack, compression calf things, compression sleeves, rain jacket and I think that's about all but I suppose I could…
  • Excess riboflavin/vitamin b2 will be flushed by your body turning your pee yellow. You should only take the recommended dose of vitamins. Clear pee means you've been getting enough hydration so you should aim for that.
  • I don't hate but don't get cravings for potatoes, pizza or most cake (I make exceptions for carrot cake). I'm also not a huge bread person - I'll use it for sandwiches but ignore it the rest of the time.
  • If you're nervous about your fitness now, you're going to be a wreck during taper week. I followed a more strenuous training plan and completed 2 or 3 20 mile runs. During taper, there's nothing you can or should do to increase your fitness and I was worried that I hadn't done enough. I also was stressed that I was going…
  • Reebok specializes more in fitness shoes like Head specializes in racquet sports. The Nikes you find at Kohl's aren't going to be their running shoes and I think that's where they get that rep from. But Nike does make some really good running shoes.
  • I eat the same thing 80% of the time. I break the routine on weekends and do have lunch out once/week. It's just so much easier to make and pack.
  • Gotta agree with glevinso about mile 20 being about halfway done with a full marathon. The last 6 miles are tough not just physically but mentally. I would like to run another at some point but towards the end, the training is a part time job. Before jumping up to the full, make sure you have the time and schedule to…
  • But plastic wrap right on top of the guac giving it no oxygen.
  • Like above, layers are key. I have two types of tights - one for when it's cold but not freezing and the other, thicker one for when it's freezing. The thicker pair isn't as tight but is wind proof on the front. I don't like entirely wind proof because the heat builds a little too much but I need my front protected. I have…
  • The grownup horse pill ones make me sick too. They have adult gummy vitamins that I really like.
  • There a couple of the vitamins in multi-vitamins that can accumulate but you really have to work for it to be a toxicity issue. If you're eating one vitamin with a normal diet, there shouldn't be any toxic effects. Like Slasher09 said, if you eat a varies enough diet, you shouldn't need vitamins. That said, this time of…
  • I agree that crowd sourcing and the internet are making WW less relevant. I think it's relevancy will be in the meeting/group aspect of it. They do have an app and barcode scanner so it's not like they don't know it's out there.
  • I did WW online and it was great for me. There wasn't the weekly meetings or weigh-ins as I think I would have hated that. The tracker has spaces where they encourage you to get your daily allotment of fruits, vegetables, proteins, oils, water, etc. There is a robust online community that discusses weight loss issues,…
  • Voodoo donuts aren't that great but they are fun. Blue Star is the place to go for good donuts.
  • Cook it up with water and vinegar for a quick sauerkraut. There are endless variations on coleslaw - either creamy or not.
  • As others have said, WW assumed you would eat the daily recommended amount of fruits and veggies and assigned them 0 points to encourage it. If you ate over the recommended amount (7?), you were supposed to log them with points. I think an apple or banana serving is a small to medium fruit and some of the giant fruit out…
  • Careful, there are some cyclists with huge thighs - especially the sprinters. Google Robert Forstemann - a German Olympian. I finally figured out the best way I could reduce my thighs would have been to have different parents. Thankfully, I don't and have come to accept that while I may be slimmer, I'm never going to have…
  • I'm 5'8" and 170-180 and am size 14. Depending on the cut, maybe 12 although I like to wear my clothes loose. At my heaviest, about 240, I was around size 18-20 so I haven't lost a lot of sizes. I think I lost 40 lbs before I lost my first size and am about 20 lbs/size. As I lost, I did find my pants became longer.
  • Like many others, I'm running a local 5k. I'm also running to the start and back home so that should add a couple miles. I'm not logging but have learned to only eat the things I really like. I have no need to eat everything just because it's on the table. I'm passing on the rolls and marshmallowed sweet potatoes but…
  • If you work in a restaurant, you may be eating more than you think due to tasting bites while cooking. While each may be small, they add up and may require a work fudge factor to include in your daily calorie count. It's something to be conscious of.
  • I eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch pretty much every day. One day a week, I'll buy lunch out instead of brown bagging it. For dinner, I'll mix it up although leftovers play a big part since I've never really got the hang of cooking for one. Sometimes I'll update the leftovers with hot sauce or maggi sauce or…
  • Are you tracking all your beverages? It doesn't look like you drink anything.
  • Go to a running store and get your shoes fitted. They can help make sure your shoe matches your stride as far as pronation, foot strike, etc.
