I want wireless headphones so badly now that you mentioned them!

It's a brilliant program! A few tips... run slow and walk fast! Your run and walk pace should be fairly close. Don't be afraid to repeat days or weeks if you need to. Running is a gait, not a speed. Speed comes with time. Learning to run is all about building endurance first. Don't worry about fast. Worry about form. Give…

I don't find that Runner's World formula to be accurate with my Fitbit, which I've found really reliable. It's WAAAAAAAY under what Fitbit would give me.

Considering that she mentioned her condition led to weight loss, I'd say the diagnosis is more likely to be Graves than Hashis.

How have you been treated so far for your hyperthyroidism? There's an excellent post in this thread: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10279674/medical-conditions-which-affect-weight-separating-fact-from-fiction/p1 (scroll down to the 12th post) explaining how people with hyperthyroidism can have trouble with…

Actually, shapesense is one of the better websites for calorie burns, in my experience.

Well, I'm with you on packet oatmeal, and that's the problem ... it's packet oatmeal. Traditional rolled oats are much more filling for me, but I also eat them with protein powder mixed in.

Hi there, I used to low carb way back in the day and like you, I just couldn't find it sustainable because there were some things I just liked too much to live without forever like beans and oatmeal. I'm also short like you. When I first started on here, I was eating around 100g of carbs a day, and eating around 1200…

Exactly. I tried pointing this out earlier, but apparently, doing so is considered trolling.

I'd love to join you guys on some of these scenic hikes. I walk my neighborhood boulevard... up and down a hill. Not much of an elevation change, but it feels challenging enough on the days when I run it. I did 8 miles this morning. Most days, I do 5.75.

There are lots of reasons I started overeating when I was young, because I used food to deal with my emotions. However, in the end, I was hiding my head in the sand and in denial about not only how big I was but about my own role in using the food since I no longer needed it to cope after a certain point. It had just…

Nah, I get up at 4:30 every morning and exercise and shower. I still don't want breakfast until around 11:00. Now coffee? That's a different story.

I dug. http://www.leangains.com/search/label/Intermittent%20Fasting%20Primer This link contains various supporting links.

It's interesting that you're deciding to leave right after being asked to cite sources. You have made specific claims with regards to what Leangains says about IF. Frankly, I think you're misinterpreting him. So, if you come back, please back up your claims.
-
Source? Specific one? I shouldn't have to hunt it down.

You are asking me to prove a negative. You know I can't do that. IF only "works" because it's a way to comply with a caloric deficit. If you do a search on it for weight loss, the fasting has nothing to do with a method to lose weight other than being a way to manipulate caloric intake.
-
To run 4 miles.

That's great if if doesn't, but you know what? I can name you right now a whole class of people for whom this "one weird trick" is meaningless. Migraineurs. I had the darndest time this year getting a colonoscopy done because of the fasting. I had to cancel my first appointment because the fasting gave me one of the worst…

I think there's some hormonal effects to IF. I know that there's one study out there that had... I believe it was older women eating one meal a day... and I think it showed something in relation to protein synthesis, but for the life of me, I cannot remember enough about it to even begin to know what to search for on…

It's not that we're resistant to discussing these issues, blambo. It's that in the end, what you're suggesting are things that don't make huge differences and will ultimately come down to personal preference for individual dieters. I simply don't think what you're suggesting is helpful to a large number of people.
-
Why should she back anything up? You've yet to back anything you've said up in terms of how big a difference this will make. BTW, I've done IF. In a sense, I still do simply because I'm not hungry first thing in the morning. I typically fast for 15-16 hours. I did this when I was obese, I'm doing it now. I know there are…

No one here is looking at this in a static way, though. You're the one presuming that. I'm frankly disturbed, as blankiefinder mentioned, by your approach here. Let's back up for a minute though. You introducing the topic of a dynamic model is nothing new to people who've been around the forums a long time. We all know the…

You sir, are a star! And what a great boy you have.

Thanks for posting your recipe! I can't wait to make them. I already have oat flour on hand so that saves me a step.
-
I'm the same way. Baked oatmeal just isn't as filling to me.

You are correct that calories are all that matter for weight loss. However macro ratios are important for satiety and body composition. They're also important for nutrition. Since this is a keto thread, I won't go into my personal take on macros, because keto macros are pretty specific.
-
Hey look, I'm a vegetarian, but I think declaring one way of eating to be "the best" is a bit wrong-headed. It's the best for you. I agree that the "but bacon" comments on veggie threads are annoying, but conversely there used to be a vegan guy on here who'd go onto all the keto, paleo, and low-carb threads and tell…

People can sort of knock around their metabolism slightly (not a huge amount) from extended periods of very low caloric intake, but they will eventually recover. It should be noted that your perception of your friends' caloric intake is likely really skewed. In most people's observance in situations like this, since you're…

I've been at this for over a year, and I've had three different "phases" so far. Who knows what will happen as time goes on. My needs seem to change with my activity level/focus.

You do not want to know what I made for myself yesterday. Just sayin'... I have celiac disease, my other family members don't. The majority of the holiday baking that happens in this house? I simply can't eat it. I make myself one kind of cookie every year that's gluten free. My weakness is your weakness. I've been at this…
