Hi!

I'm still in my losing phase, but I've lost 75 pounds so far and have been at this over a year. My experience is similar to yours, juggernaut. I started out with not worth it things and ended up incorporating most of them back into my life. Most of the stuff that's not worth it to me at this point are foods that come down…

I swore I was going to stay away from this discussion. However... If you're going to be the spokesperson for consuming sugar? IN. As long as your abs do the talking.

OP, I can understand that you might have limitations on your physical activity with a condition like EDS, but am not familiar with how a connective tissue disorder would otherwise affect your overall metabolic rate. With that being said, you should have normal sedentary metabolism for someone your age unless you have some…

My thoughts are... do what works for you. If you find it satiating and it fits your goals? Go for it. Me personally? I have celiac disease and gluten free bread is not as satisfying and gluten-containing bread. I do, on occasion, like a poached egg on toast, but don't eat bread by itself because gluten free bread isn't all…

Needs a like button. Something that occurred to me earlier in thinking about this post was thinking back on teach my two children how to read. Each of them required a different approach to learn how to do the same thing. As their schooling progressed, their difference in learning styles continued to diverge. One loved…

Where can I get myself one of those doughnut trees? Great post.

You I like.

This. There's often a habitual component left as an artifact of emotional eating. Your whys might be evident, but you're still in the habit of using food in all the situations you used it. I know this was very, very true in my case. I was so used to eating and eating that I just kept doing it. Pre-logging and pre-planning…

You have got to be kidding. Assault is a crime. Arguing against it isn't saying she had to be docile in her response to him. Use your words to retaliate and stand up in response. There's a whole empowered world of ways to handle a jerk in a bar that don't involve criminal, inappropriate actions.

That's a generous calorie allowance! http://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipe/super-veggie-lentil-taco-meat/ I make this and have it in taco salad, with cheese, but you could make nachos, burritos ... anything with it. http://cookieandkate.com/2013/west-african-peanut-soup/ This is so good. To give it less calories/more…

You hit a stranger in a bar because you didn't like what he said and you were ready to brawl? I think you really need to focus on becoming a better person as well as a lighter one.

I am much more comfortable embracing the notion of an eating addiction. Even though I don't feel that I crossed the line into full-blown addiction, I do feel my personal experience would better fit under the description of a problem with eating rather than a problem with any specific food or food group. Of course, that is…

Firstly, but I'm not going to go round and round on this, in the research review posted upthread, it clearly stated that a review of all the literature found absolutely no basis for physical addiction in humans. Here's a link to that again. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0149763414002140 Secondly, I'll…

Yes, completely. A lot of the interior work of battling your food demons takes a very long time and is a ... get ready for an overused, cliched word choice! ... journey. People come here at different points on their paths, but one thing I've learned along the way. Even if you're not ready to do something yet, often hearing…

The authors of the Yale Food Addiction Scale themselves admit that there's no evidence for addiction to food as a substance in humans. Please re-read the first post. The point here is not to negate your experience or invalidate you. It's obvious that this is an important issue to you, but the distinction being made in this…

I didn't used to like water either. I started buying those flavored sparkling waters, I found them very refreshing. I transitioned to lemon in plain sparkling water, then lemon in plain water, then just plain water. My husband solves the problem by mixing water with his favorite diet soda.

Some addictions have both a behavioral and a substance component. My personal experience with smoking bears this out. Nicotine is an addictive substance, but breaking the habits of lighting up at certain times and having something to do with your hands is just as hard. Others are just about behaviors like gambling or sex.…

Calorie counting is the one weight loss method that finally, after 40 years of dieting, clicked for me.

I'm another one who's fairly consistent with sizing between Old Navy and other stores. I'm 5'1.5", 138 with a medium frame I wear a size 6 on the bottom and either medium or small top (large breasts with small rib cage) With stretchy bottoms like leggings/yoga pants, I take either a medium or small, depending where they're…

What a fabulous video! Everyone should take the time to watch it.

I made good use of herb teas for a long time myself, but I'm going to second the suggestion for good quality dark chocolate. I noticed that a lot of what you indulge in is really super sweet. Substituting a very rich, densely flavored bitter/sweet treat might satisfy you with less. Trader Joe's sells 73% extra dark cocoa…

+2 Lifting will make your body smaller at a higher weight. I've been the weight I am before, when I was young and single. My body was not this small, and I've had 2 children since then.

What stong curves said! Are you trying to lose weight too quickly? Another question, what's your macro balance like? Are you getting enough protein and fiber to feel full?

I'd like to reiterate a point I made in the first post regarding restriction. We're coming up on the New Year. A lot of people are going to want to resolve to give up sugar. The symposium on food addiction and the research on eating addiction point to the underpinnings of behavioral addiction in the subset of people who…

Since this thread is getting bumped, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share my experience with "food addiction" in light of the science on the issue. Years ago, maybe 20ish? I thought I was surely addicted to carbs. The Carbohydrates Addicts Diet book really resonated with me. Following that plan, I was still…
