  • Good morning! 5 days until Christmas.....who is ready?! Not me! I just listened to a really good early sobriety meditation on you tube. It was about forgiving yourself and moving forward. It was just what I needed to hear today. It's called Guided Meditation for Early Sobriety by Amie G. She is very soothing.
  • Hi Guys! I had a great time with my daughter in NYC. We walked all over, saw the Rockettes, ate amazing food, went to a jazz club etc. A good time was had by all. I have been drinking a bit, but not in New York which was a goal. Right now I am on Day 4 in a row AF. I would like to keep this going and finish the year AF so…
  • I hope everyone is well. We are taking the train to NYC in the morning to see our daughter who is flying in from London with her boyfriend today. We see her maybe once a year. She is a non drinker so it will be easy not to indulge. I look forward to seeing the Rockettes and the lighting of the Rockefeller Xmas tree :)
  • I have company staying with me, which equals more eating than usual. Then it's Thanksgiving, then I go to NYC for 3 days. My diet has gone off the rails. At this point if I don't gain any more weight by Christmas, it is a win. I'll weigh in Dec 1 and try to stay within a couple pounds of whatever that number is.
  • @2GoAwayPounds Your "ask myself am I hungry?" mindset is very inspiring. Thank you for sharing that. And thank you to all who share their highs and lows and strategies. We are just a group of like minded people, trying to live our healthiest lives. I am depressed because the scale is going the wrong way and I really can't…
  • HW 170 LW 148.8 11/01 158.8 11/08 161 It was not a good week and I engaged in a bit of emotional eating and drinking. I'll try to improve next week.
  • @Womona "Alcohol is a group 1 carcinogen like tobacco. In the body, alcohol turns into acetaldehyde, which is a known carcinogen, or cancer-causing agent. When this toxic chemical builds up in the body, it damages DNA and prevents the body from repairing itself."
  • @Breathe57103 You are feeling your feelings because you are no longer numbing them. I call that being in my feelings, or sitting in my feelings. It is definitely weird at first because I was not used to it. I kind of meditate through them and try to think, "I am grateful to be alive and feeling these feelings, whether bad…
  • You all are inspiring to pick my knitting needles up. Also, I have fallen down the Instagram rabbit hole, looking at DIY holiday crafts. There are so many! A couple years ago I found one for pop tart gingerbread houses to make with the grands. So cute and easy. I would not be able to do any of this while drinking.
  • I ate way too much watching the football game, then my neighbor came over and dropped off left over wedding cake which I did not resist. Did not drink alcohol though, which saved a ton of calories. I always have better luck with my eating goals during weekdays so here we go. Happy Monday, All!
  • @MissMay Thank you for your insightful words. I am back on track. Today my husband, brother in law, and I watched a football game. I made a lot of food and we all 3 had 00 beers. It was fun. I have to admit it is easier since my husband is not drinking either, he says, until Thanksgiving. I'm not thinking of anything but…
  • Made it through a harrowing football game (as a fan) without any alcohol. It helped tremendously that my husband and his friend were on board with the 00 beer. 11/01 AF 11/02 A 11/03 AF
  • I did have champagne at the wedding...I know..it being right in front of me already on the table....no excuse. but I did toast the bride and groom and then thought, "well I ruined my streak so why not have more?" So I had 1 glass of white wine after that. I was perfectly sober but I was trying to do none this month. Today…
  • Welcome to all the new people! We are very supportive of each other here and we will support you too!
  • I picked up the champagne glass at the wedding, basically on auto pilot, when they did they toast. After I had a sip I said, "well I broke my Dry November pretty fast". Ended up having one additional glass of white wine but that was it. Still, I want to be accountable here. Back on track today. Nov 01 AF Nov 02 A
  • @renae149 I totally agree about checking in on MFP. I lost a bunch of weight then stopped logging it under "check-in" and it slowly has crept back up.I am now writing it all down again, the food, the weight, etc. I think with the no alcohol I should at least be able to lose a couple of lbs. If I pair that with actually…
  • Good morning! Happy November! I would like to lose around 10 lbs this month so staying AF will be critical to that goal. We are going to a wedding tomorrow, an hour away, in the evening. I already told my husband I will be the driver so he can indulge if he wants to. I have been to several weddings in the past 5 years…
  • I love the art Ruby Red LOL. My weight has crept back up and I am taking this seriously this month. HW 170 03/23 Started Wegovy LW 148.8 08/23 Stopped Wegovy CW 159.6 11/01 (today) GW 150 UGW 145 I would like to lose 10 lb this month. My methods will be no alcohol at all, no ice cream, :( smaller portions for meals , which…
  • Happy Halloween! Ruby Red that was beautifully said. I'm proud of all of us. We continue to show up. We care about our health and well being. We are doing our best.
  • @globalhiker Thank you for your post that reminded me that alcohol is a carcinogen. It is so easy to glamorize wine; indeed advertising does that for us on a daily basis. I need to remember to be grateful for my health and protective of it. At 61 I have more yesterdays than tomorrows and I need to keep that in mind when it…
  • Please share healthy recipes. If they are cost-saving, even better. Here is one I am making tonight. I've made it several times. My husband loves it too. Only change for me, I decreased the cayenne pepper to 1/8 tsp as I found it too spicy. You can always add more, or hot sauce, if you want. Or omit it and lower amount of…
  • @xbowhunter Awesome results and observations! I haven't lost any weight yet but everything else you are experiencing, I am experiencing too. Plus obviously more money! The better sleep is heavenly and my skin looks 10 years younger.
  • I watched a YouTube of a woman getting arrested in the middle of the day for a DUI after hitting 2 mailboxes. Think of those had been children. Anyway, she was awful and entitled. The police had the patience of Job. When her husband showed up, it seemed like this wasn't the first time he had seen this behavior. If I was…
  • I am here for it! My weight has crept back up and there is no time to waste with the holidays around the corner. Thank you @RubyRed427 for continuing the group!
  • I need this more than ever. Thank you for continuing. Let's finish 2024 strong!
  • Continuing liver values discussion from last month, here is an online calculator to plug in your AST and ALT values with interpretation. https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/ast-alt-ratio Thank you MM for continuing this group.
  • https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/ast-alt-ratio You can plug your numbers in here. Obviously this does not replace anything your Dr has to say. I'll post this in the November link too.
  • I also have a wedding this weekend, an hour away. The brides mother asked if we wanted to stay at the hotel and I was like, "no, I won't be drinking and can get us home safely." It feels so good to be able to confidently know that this is true.
  • 34 out of 35 days AF. I drank what was billed as an AF beer on Sunday but when I looked closely at the label ( I was wondering why I was wanting more) it was in fact a 0.5. They can call themselves AF because of the tiny amount. Well, that tiny amount was enough to make me crack open a real one, then another few. So lesson…
  • Though my liver enzymes are a bit high, they are in the high-normal range. This motivates me to stay AF. Day 34 today.
