  • yeah if you like cheesy snacks, ideally make sure you can spare 350 calories in your day because that's what's in the bag, and if you're like me you will eat the whole thing :P
  • Good question @itcphotog , I don't typically eat processed foods, but it looks like they've made it a point to use natural/regular cheese ingredients for the most part so I'm not too worried about it. Looks like the jalapeno kind has no colouring added though. @KnitOrMiss they say they use "patented technology" to remove…
  • The healthcare system works a little differently in Canada than it does in the states because of universal healthcare - if I want to see an endocrinologist, my GP has to refer me to one, and I don't really get to choose, I don't have too much experience with going beyond that and trying to seek out other doctors as I think…

  • Ugh, this just happened to me today. My Endocrinologist's office called me about some blood work, and I mentioned to her (whoever she was, his secretary I think) that I've started taking Inositol and thought I should pass it on just so it's on my chart or whatever (can you tell how much I'm not impressed with doctors?),…

  • This drives me insane, it seems to be part of the very outdated thinking that a woman's primary value is to have children, and just generally being healthy and functioning normally is secondary, and not nearly as important. It's confoundingly offensive and needs to change.
  • Maybe tell the organizers will make an exception if you tell them that you have a medical condition and need to bring in some of your own food?
  • From the Diabetes Journal link: " thus, vinegar may possess physiological effects similar to acarbose or metformin" Amazing - very good information, thanks for sharing @wabmester‌ !
  • Hi @TMS7878‌ - I used to eat more beans and legumes and whole grains before starting the low carb diet, but unfortunately they're all quite high in carbohydrates and it's recommended to cut them out (or way down) - I'm about a week into it and I'm basically experimenting with a keto diet, which means quite strict and…
  • Great to know about the spiro - thanks! The pill boxes are also a great idea, I thought I was doing fine with keeping track but have noticed here and there lately that I can't remember whether or not I've taken something, gonna go out and get one this week for sure.
  • I hope the count weighed his apples - if he just wrote "3 apples" in his diary I'm going to be so pissed.
  • I was just looking into this earlier today and found a nice summary here. I've hated the artificial sweeteners I've tried in the past (thinking mainly of stevia and Splenda, but I think i've tried others, too) so I've been sticking mostly to using very small amounts of honey or maple syrup here and there, but after reading…
  • Aw I know the feeling! I've bought so many different types of vitamins and supplements over the years and almost never stick with it for even a full bottle, I think I read too many things that make me feel like it's crucial that I take [insert supplement here] to the point where I just give up because I can't possibly get…
  • Yeah I guess I could have given more background information, sorry about that. Just to clarify, what I meant was that I kind myself sometimes feeling physically repulsed by the idea of eating more fat - the thought of eating a really high fat meal is at times triggering some nausea and physical manifestations of aversion.…
  • @DittoDan - I'm just over 5'5" and 127lbs (125 was the goal hence the last 2lbs) so weight isn't the problem, per my endocrinologist I most likely have PCOS which usually includes insulin resistance, which is the only reason I'm adopting this diet, otherwise I'd be more than happy eating the way I was before - generally…
  • I think I've probably been eating too much cheese, starting with coconut oil today (have used it occasionally in the past but not for a while), so that's probably a contributor. Thanks ahjenny, i'll look into the magnesium oil!
  • I can completely relate to this, I was having the same struggle. My approach has been to gradually scale back carbs and increase fats, little by little incorporating more into my meals. It feels so wrong to be cutting back on fruits and vegetables since I ate so much of them before and tried so hard to minimize fats, which…
  • I like to log in the evening for the next day, I find it helps me eat a little healthier, but I also do it to try to save money and waste less food - I consider what ingredients I have, what's going to expire soon and make sure I use things up, and then if I'm short on protein, or want to lower the amount of carbs or sugar…
  • Nice idea for a thread! I started using MFP and taking Spironolactone for PCOS at roughly the same time, 4 and 3 months ago respectively (wow feels like it's been longer). I started at a 100mg dose of spiro, and increased it to 200mg about a month ago as I've read that this is an optimal dosage, and my endo agreed. Both…
  • Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I have some hemp protein powder left over from a pretty poor attempt at making some kind of protein cookie a while ago, I'll experiment with working that in and see what happens :)
  • hahaha oops, thanks for pointing that out.The missing 30% I fill with chewed up tin cans, didn't know where that would fit in. (It should be 60% fat)
  • Thanks for the advice! I do eat mostly whole foods, and only quite recently introduced the whole grain cereal and fake meats to try to increase my fibre and protein intake, respectively. So I'm not overly set on having to eat these foods, will probably just eat what I have left and move on to less carby pastures, so to…
  • Thanks Alliwan - yeah I realized after I posted here that it might have made more sense to post over there, but left this one as well anticipating that I might get different perspectives. Honestly I'm not 100% sure if I'm insulin resistant but for a while I've suspected that I am. Do you need an insulin test to be…
  • Thank you. I've just experienced so much despair over the past few years because of PCOS symptoms, it's nice to experience what feels like some small gains, to know that there are more options which = more hope, and to be able to hear other people's stories.
  • Ok I already love this forum, had never heard of Inositol but sounds like I should definitely try it. A few questions: I saw in another thread that someone mentioned it's okay to take alongside Spironolactone, can other confirm? What dosage do people take? Can anyone in Canada recommend a place to purchase it? I noticed…
  • I'll look into those, thank you!!
  • @KnitOrMiss‌ That's excellent advice, it's encouraging to hear that there are more effective and involved endocrinologists out there! When I started seeing mine I did have insurance, however I'm back in school and no longer working full time so sadly I don't currently have any coverage. I'd love to see a Naturopath as well…
  • I haven't been very impressed with the quality of health care for PCOS that I've received from my GP or endo, I basically had to do my own research, diagnose myself, request a referral to an Endocrinologist, and even once there it was me who requested a prescription of Spironolactone. He was very much willing to oblige and…
  • OP - I felt similar to you when I started, and I also had a goal of losing around 15 pounds! It's something I've been trying to do for my entire adult life with little succcess, and it's not too good to be true - I lost 10 in the first couple months of using MFP. My problem was that I was always quite knowledgeable about…
  • Honestly I find that sometimes when I know I'm eating at a steady deficit I weigh myself and the scale doesn't reflect it. Then I go a few days longer, some of which I'm eating closer to maintenance rather than a 500cal per day deficit, and suddenly the scale shows I've lost more weight that I thought I would have. It…
