I recently quit drinking soda and it took about two weeks to not crave it anymore. I didn't quit cold turkey though I started by cutting back to one or two a day then I mixed half diet and half reg then a couple diets a day, now I basically just drink flavored water. The caffeine withdrawal does cause headaches and stuff…

I was on it. Be careful after taking it daily for just a few weeks I could not wake up without it and felt horrible coming off it. I also gained back everything I lost on it and wish I never took it. If I were you I'd really do some research on it and decide if you really want to take the risk. Its basically a legal…

I find some exercise even if its just 10 mins a day really helps me and motivates me to eat better. If i had to sweat for an hour to burn 300 calories I'm much less likely to eat that 400 calorie muffin. I am also a mother and a fulltime college student so not much free time but what I've been doing is just adding small…

Thanks :) yeah I'm not complaining about all the inches lost was just curious. So much contradictions in info on the net. I did just start lifting heavy and exercising about two months ago after years of inactivity. My family genetics may play a role in an ability to gain muscle as well. I have quite a few very muscular…

Have u measured yourself with a tape measure? I only lost 2 pounds last month but lost 6 inches on my waist, 3 on each thigh, 2 on each arm etc. Progress does not always show on the scale.

Sorry about your loss and troubles but congratz on taking care of you and wanting to be healthier. If your just starting my advice would be to log what you normally eat for a few days and then look at the info to see where you can make small changes. If you don't think of it as a diet but as changes you can make for the…

nK112 Unfortunately I dont like seafood either. I can def try to include more beans and nuts. Thank you for the help and yes I'll Google and look for more. I'm not getting anywhere close to enough right now. And halebales I had no idea some proteins couldn't be used by the body. I have a lot to learn still :) Thank you.

If you are having trouble with motivation instead of making a ton of changes all at once that you cant stick too, and then feel bad about it, make one small change a month that you can stick to forever. Cut out soda or switch to diet, make sure you eat fruit/veggies everyday. Work out 3 days a week..whatever you want your…

Kinda new to MFP and I could use some friends for motivation. Anyone can add me :)

Yeah those kind of diets are tough with not liking meat. I will eat a little chicken once and awhile. I can try more nuts and eggs though.

Thank you for sharing that. Low carbs can help me lose a little, but it so hard for me to stick to b/c I don't eat meat. I always end up binging on carbs when I try to deprive myself of them. I wonder if having such low calories when we were growing made our bodies react or process carbs a little differently? Or just be…

I had a big sweet tooth so now I grab grapes or raspberries or if I really need something chocolate a sugar free choc pudding. I can munch on grapes for a long time and for only 1 calorie or so each it feels like I ate a lot but it was only 30 calories or so. I also bought those flavor drops you put into water that are…

I love fruit, yogurt or cottage cheese as a snack. You don't like any fruit? I love grapes or raspberries. only 1 calorie each so I can eat a bunch of them and feel like I am snacking without much calories. When I feel like something sweet I've been having a sugar free chocolate pudding cup. I guess it would just be on…

I've seen a lot of articles and research that claim if your an "apple" shape and carry your weight in the middle you are more prone to diseases etc. If your "pear" shape then you have less risk. Is there any truth to that?

I did google for both BMR and RMR and also metabolic testing in the area and couldn't find anything except at the hospital with a doctors prescription. Im in Niagara falls, not a huge town, but not tiny either, I would have thought someone would do it, but maybe not. I even checked neighboring areas. I only found some in…

If you lose weight slowly its supposed to be easier to keep it off and you lose less muscle. Also why incorporating some weight lifting is so important. Unless you've been undereating for awhile though you will be fine. Just add more calories and make sure to eat under your TDEE but above your BMR.

its pretty hard to lose weight without counting calories. You should at least count calories for awhile to see how much you are eating and where you can make cuts from. Even if you just cut out some junk food, or make smaller portions of the things you are eating you will lose some weight. And working out can be fun, and…

I want to have a doc check my thyroid too as a low thyroid runs in the family. If I asked for an RMR test at the same time do you think they would give me one or would I need a better reason then curiosity and trouble losing weight to get one? I've been trying to find somewhere to just pay to get one but I can't find…

Yeah your right there are so many variables its hard to really know the cause. I feel like anyone should be able to improve at least some if given enough time and consistency. After the reset what is the best way to get the body not to just immedialty adapt to the lower calorie level again? I know a small deficit is key,…

Lol. I really just want to test myself. I know we have mri s and stuff for the grads students to use so we prob have one. It'd be interesting for a thesis and an area of research :) have you ever come across someone here who can't reset their metabolism? From what I read online it looks like if ur metabolism was suppressed…

Thanks Ill take a look at these :) I'd love to get a hold of a machine to test RMRs. I wonder if my school has one. I have to do a thesis next year, and although Im a psych major not health I would love to figure out a way to do my on study on this kind of thing.

What are you trying to change? Is this not enough calories for you or you want to make it less? If you eat 1861 you should lose around 1.5 pounds a week. If you don't eat back your exercise calories you could lose more. Or you can eat them back and keep it at the 1.5. If you want to change it though you can

Hi:) I can't help you with all your macros since I don't really know enough about that kind of thing, but I am so glad you are feeling better. You work out so much your body needed energy. I have an issue not weighing everyday too, but for the time being I had to hide my scale, you may want to consider it as you may gain…

heybales- That's a good study and makes total sense. I find this stuff so interesting, Ive been reading everything I can find online about it, especially the scientific studies. Your right the way they have people lose weight now is the wrong approach. I have no idea why the EM2WL approach is not more popular it makes…
-
Nayners- Im pretty new to this whole idea of EM2LW but you may want to try increasing just to see if it gets you off the plateau what could it hurt right? I hide my scale so Im not sure if Im still losing but I think I am because a couple people told me today how thin I look today. I might be an unusual case though because…

Thank you so much, I will try this next time I am at the gym :)

you may not gain much if at all, or just water weight. I am going up in calories too and so far havnt gained at all. Although I believe that's because I have sooo much extra energy now that im eating more food that I am burning a ton more calories just fidgeting and moving around all the time.

Oh I don't have a hrm moniter yet. I would have loved to buy the fitbit with the hrm built in but I don't think its out in stores yet. At least not that I could find. Im a single mom though so I cant really spend a ton of money, especially now with my drastic increase in food bills! but if you think its needed to get an…
