pretty much all my psych meds (i'm on several) have weight gain as a side effect. very frustrating indeed, but better than being suicidal.

breastfeeding will prevent you from getting pregnant - as long as you have a certain hormonal profile. trouble is it's hard to predict when your hormones will change enough to allow ovulation. my friend didn't have a period until her kid was 15 months old. my kids were 5 and 4 months respectively. now, if i had assumed my…

god am i ever with you. i gain and lose almost exactly 5 lbs every month during that week, and it's all i can do not to let it get to me. i am lightest just before ovulation, so i try not to take the little changes too seriously. thank god for MFP where i can at least look at the past few months and say "oh, it's just THAT…

i'm confused - vegan diets are commonly high in carbohydrates and therefore nonketogenic. ketogenic diets are very low in carbohydrates and usually high in fat and meat. i'd love to know how you accomplish both at once! :)

first, stretch the heck out of it, especially earlier in the day after it's warmed up some. second, i find holding a pencil with my toes (between the ends of my toes and the ends of my metatarsals) helps to strengthen the muscles in the area. ice it if it flares up badly. do an exhausting low-impact exercise such as an…

when you think your kegels are doing everything you think it can do and it's still not quite up to snuff, you can get weighted balls that you insert into your vagina and you use your pelvic floor muscles to hold them in. kind of like the difference between doing body weight exercises and lifting weights :) just an idea.

i say it regularly, i also type it when "talking" on facebook. it is only offensive when someone uses it improperly to make fun of me. use it properly to make fun of me that's all good :)

i don't use any currently, but xylitol was the only non-sugar sweetener i could stand. splenda gives me seizures. all other artificial sweeteners taste bloody awful to me (very bitter), and while stevia is nice and natural, i find it has a funny aftertaste.

i have no experience, but i have enjoyed hal higdon and jeff galloway for books on the topic. make sure you have at least 2 pairs of shoes. i have done a short-distance run in an event that included marathoners and the experience was incredible. good luck to you!

be careful about canned fruit - the ones packed in water usually have splenda in them, which works for some people and not others. it gives me seizures. just a heads up :) make a list of 10 meals based on what can be stored easily - dry or canned beans, rice, pasta, frozen vegetables, frozen meat, etc. then buy as much as…

poor thing.

I too have mixed feelings.. the first place i lose weight is in my hips and bum. when i was nearly 300 lbs i had a round set of buns. 50 lbs down and i have a flat piece of bannock. i don't mind losing in my bust as i'm freakishly large there, and after losing weight i can simply have everything lifted. but i'm frustrated…

my best friend breastfed til he was 5. he has fond memories of it. he was a real cheering squad when i bfed my eldest for 4 years. :)

i think there is a height/waist or shoulder/waist ratio available for men. i have no idea about your musculature so can't guess at whether it's big, but it doesn't sound like it. too much water is dangerous. if you are going to drink huge amounts of water like that you MUST consume electrolytes. you don't have to salt your…

i believe homeopathy is bunk in and of itself, but never underestimate the power of the placebo response. it has been documented that if a patient passionately believes this "water with just the memory of the sulphur in it" (that's how a homeopathy fan once described it to me) they will begin to experience the response…

i think calories in/calories out is correct. i also think it's not that simple, because people assume when they work out doing X for Y minutes, they burn Z calories because MFP says so. in truth i believe there are other factors involved. if for example you eat something with a high glycemic index, you will get a spike in…

there's certainly a lot of debate over macro ratios. i think their default settings are a good start. if it isn't working for you for any reason, tweak it. nobody's ratios are going to be exactly the same as someone else's. i would say however that people who have weight loss surgery need WAY more protein and fewer carbs,…

they are extremely sugary. i love how they taste but they wreaked havoc on my blood sugar levels (i'm not even diabetic) and i had constant headaches and hunger. if that wasn't bad enough - i lost one pound in two weeks after feeling like i was starving. if you want a shake meal replacement i'd go with isagenix - low GI,…

i've got a friend from brandon mb who goes tobagganing and skating in her bathing suit. it's hilarious. she does it to encourage us to hang in there for our long winter. if you want a bit of a chuckle, go to youtube and search "canadian granny". 60 year old in a black bathing suit, that's her.

really bad for me. gives me seizures.

i dare not find out what whale blubber tastes like. i'm in southern manitoba, hi there! we've been pretty cold too. i'm so unmotivated.

according to anthropological data (both a worldwide survey and a comparative study with other apes) the natural weaning age of a homo sapiens child is between 2-7 years. so yes, you are well within normal! north americans have a tendency to cut the nursing relationship short. nutritionally breast milk is the perfect food…

you will not get bulky from the steroid. the one you're taking is an anti-inflammatory, not an anabolic steroid. i have bronchitis frequently and would recommend staying out of the cold (i have cold+activity induced asthma) and if you can, stick to light workouts at home until you feel well enough for your regular workout.…

i can't see what you're doing, so i'll throw these arrows out and see if any hit the target ;) if you have PCOS you are very likely to be insulin resistant. try to cut out all added sugar and steer away from high glycemic index items - a spike in blood sugar can encourage the body to store the excess as fat, and then blood…

incredible! bravo!

i'm waiting in line for the sleeve myself. from what i can tell, the rapid weight loss immediately following surgery is from extreme caloric restriction, which is due in part to the lack of ghrelin that makes us hungry, and part to the meal size restriction. i really do think it's the best thing for me. i've been losing…

manitoba here too! canucks unite!

first, condolences to those of you who have experienced recent losses. second, hi all! i've been doing a good job of tracking my nutrient intake this past while, except for a few days where i was down with a gastro bug (so it wouldn't have been valid anyway) and while i am averaging around my goal intake, i'm not losing…

thanks for the suggestions! youtube hasn't worked for me in days - is it just me?

i would definitely accept a nutritionist (rncp specifically) or dietitian who was obese. her weight is none of my business. her information could still be sound. she might understand some of the difficulties i have with eating, while my sister (a personal trainer, naturally thin, exercise addict, loves vegetables) has no…
