Not at a sit down restaurant, but I used to go to my work cafeteria salad bar every day and I did bring a small scale.

Same as others but I usually pick one that is about average calories. I figure a portion and calorie count of a mom an pop restaurant are less than a chain--that might be wishful thinking. Anything is better than doing nothing.

Do you log everything? Plan for the best but log whatever you eat. Hopefully after a while of doing this, when you see that cake and start to log it, you will question your choice.

I'll admit I've done it, but only when my chores took many hours (4 or more and I only take credit for half) and didn't allow me time to exercise. For me, I would expect for others, it allows the MFP calculation to add more calories to my daily allotment and I can eat more with the MFP approval. If one loses weight by…

Rubbish. And I don't mind talking about my colon. I'd share pictures from my last colonoscopy if you want (the internal ones the doc took of my colon). Can we get a flag for detox posts? Or an auto delete for users with less than 10 posts who submit a reply with the word "detox" in it. OP: 1300 is too low for someone your…

That may be reasonable but exercise and you fitbit will adjust that goal everyday. How did you come up with 1500? How much it the Fitbit adjusting it? How many calories did you estimate burning by jogging? Opening your diary would help others answer your questions.

First question I would ask: Do you like your job? Is it worth 60 hrs a week of your time indefinitely? You don't need to answer me, but you should answer for yourself. I have job+kids and have been successful in incorporating my commute with my work out somehow. I have cycle commuted both ways, I have taken the bus into…

You need to fuel your work outs. I am guessing your 1500 calories didn't include the ones you burned from jogging. You need to eat back some of your exercise calories. Not doing so is harmful and lead to losing more lean body mass and more harmful things like brittle nails, hair loss, lack of energy, and if taken too far,…

I was not a yo-yo dieter as I had only once lost any significant amount of weight when trying do so, but I had started many times to give up only after few days. So starting was never an issue. I will have to give credit to MFP as to what was different. The last time I lost weight, which was in 2012 and I lost about 30…

Everyone has their own barriers, some with easier or fewer to overcome. But once you have, it does seem to be pretty easy.

When I started wearing clothes that weren't too big for me.

I’m one of those people who would say it’s easy, but that’s only because of the multiple steps I took over 15 years+. In 1998, when I stopped drinking full calorie soda. In 1999, when I joined the Army and found out I can run more than a mile. In 2004 when I learned about what reasonable portion sizes are. In 2008, when I…

I eat tacos and fajitas all the time. Corn tortillas are much lower in calories but I still prefer white flour. I'm using some now that are "fajita" sized according to the package. I think they are 90 calories. The one thing I do now is try to load up the shells more, 3 oz, 4 if it will fit of protein. The ingredients I…

The biggest difference is the moisture lost during cooking. Thus since your cooking time and local humidity vary, to get the most accurate measurement, you need to weight before cooking.

Yes, I do it. On the Android app, and maybe other, you can view your average nutritional information over 7 days. My goal is to keep my 7 day average under my goal.

+1 You really need to tell us more on why refined sugar. For instance, those paleo vegan cookies above have about the same amount sugar as chips ahoy, it just comes from dates. If you eat those cookies they same way you eat chips ahoy, than you haven't addressed the issue. Instead of focusing on refined sugar, you need to…

5'5" 174. Shirt size medium, 16" neck, pants 34". Started out at 225, XL Shirt, 18" neck, 40" pants. It's funny, when I was growing up, as a short guy, I thought I was "built" when i was able to wear an XL shirt but weighing less than 150 lbs. My target is to get under 150, and I will be wearing a small or smaller. I guess…

Coq au Vin Unless you consider wine a fruit. Break up the steps into 2-3 days.

I was a non-breakfast eater and then encouraged by incorrect dieting advise that I need to eat it and I forced myself. So now after many years, my body expects it, especially on work days. Since I don't particularly like breakfast foods and have found some foods eaten too early give me heartburn, I now just listen to my…

I love the Veal Saltimbocca. It's not that big of a dish and according to the MFP database, 186 calories per 5 oz. I'd estimate four 5 oz servings. There is a chicken option if you have an issue with veal. Or salad, or go ahead and as others suggest pack the doggie bag before you eat.

Yes, because I have space in the attic. I will get rid of them when I move, which will not be anytime in the near future.

Why is that?

For my family, my wife and I eat the mostly the same dinner. We sometimes differ on veggies as I'm a little picky on those (I also due about 60% of the cooking). For our children, they do have to eat what is made if we feel its something kids wouldn't object too: steak, grilled chicken, pasta with meat sauce. Many if not…

I'm reading a lot of pro gym snobbery.

You can't spot reduce. If you want to exercise, there are two components. Cardio and resistance training/weight lifting. It's most beneficial from a body composition prospective to do both, but many only do one and again you don't have to do any. It's best to find something you enjoy and will want to do beyond your desire…

Start small. I suggest start tracking what you eat. You will start to understand what reasonable portion size should be. Then move to meeting your calorie goal. Unless you really want to, put the gym off for now. Exercise is great, has many benefits outside of weight loss, can help with weight loss but is not required.

+1 That was the point I was trying to make.
