agree, especially about pictures. Sadly I was just too low on confidence to take a picture of myself in the beginning. regarding the 20 seconds, I think it's a bit like a batsman; You only have to focus when the ball's about to come at you.

I get a similar deal with chocolate - but only the chocolate I used to eat when I was fat. At some point I realised "this tastes 'nice', but isn't worth being fat for".
-
Yep, this is a key skill. I've been slim for 4 years now, but it's just not realistic to think you'll never eat badly again. There will always be holidays, vacations, birthdays, events... getting there and staying there is about stepping off the wagon then stepping back on, without a fuss.

@Bellodesiderare - I'm loving the body language in that last pic. So confident, so hot!

As cute as a button.

What does bump mean?
-
I'm not sure. I tried that with Dr Pepper...
-
I'll give this a go. I've been doing a similar thing where I stand in a power position, after seeing it in a TED conference video. It works.
-
Me too. At least losing weight has a happy ending.
-
I think it can be too.
-
agreed. especially for calorie-dense foods like cheese and butter, where 10 grams here or there makes a difference.
-
Furthermore, I'd say the deal is actually a pretty good deal. it took only two years to lose all the weight and gain 20lbs of muscle. pretty good, given I trashed my body for probably 20 years or more
-
true. even if its not 30 mins of awesome workout, it's something. And It helps develop the habit.
-
Yes, I've certainly learnt that patience, stubbornness and a quiet determination to hold on are more valuable than any initial burst of motivation.
-
That one hit home. I'm going to remember that one.

You're very right. I like running. I actually like the fresh air. but putting those trainers on...
-
I like this one a lot.

2lbs a week is totally do-able. that's obviously 24lbs over 12 weeks, which is close enough to your target. If I stay within my calories I lose weight, but if I go low carb and eat mainly fat & protein I look physically much better. That's just me though. I've no research papers to back that up, just experience.

there are two kinds of people: a) those who climb ladders. b) and those who pull people down ladders, because they can't be bothered to climb up. we all know this, and have probably done it at some time, in some way. type a) revises for exams, type b) says "SWAT", "NERD", "GEEK". type a) gets into good shape, type b) says…

I might write an article about my 'why'. Ah what the hell, I'll just stick it here. Truth is, I was a 24 year old virgin (ended up being a 26 year old one) and wanted to get laid. You're not really supposed to say that. You're supposed to say health, confidence and other wholesome things. Sure I wanted to feel good about…

I think there's just so much temptation. tv, adverts, the people around you. constant cues to eat bad things.
-
yeah, its reverse psychology. if you tell yourself not to think about a pink elephant, you'll think of a pink elephant. I tell myself what I'm "going to" eat, not what I'm "not going to" eat. meanwhile any bad stuff that comes my way is going to get binned. EDIT: would also add that i kind of got out of it by eating fruit…

for me it was calories in vs calories out, BUT the calories in need to be low in refined sugars. I've no science to this, I've just found that if my 'calories in' are high in refined sugars like those in cakes, chocolate and certain yogurts I will lose weight but look truly awful. i lose lots of muscle and people ask me if…

it can go one of two ways for you: a) lose the weight and you'll be looking awesome in 18 months time. b) dont lose the weight, and sit there feeling depressed in 18 months time, wishing you had started NOW. The sooner you start, the sooner you'll finish. the brain is like a spoilt 13 year old. you say "no more chocolate",…

I have no science to back this up, I just find natural sugars to be non-addictive and less damaging than refined sugar added to cakes, tea and certain yogurts. I've also read articles, doctors saying they don't count natural sugars like those in milk and fruit. after eating a lot of chocolate (like xmas time) my cravings…
-
I don't think I could do it. Really I don't. The best I can manage is to go without refined sugar in chocolate, cakes etc, and even that would be tough for a whole year. I eat only natural sugars, such as those in fruit. That's challenge enough for me!

learning german was a lot easier than losing weight!
-
I've got a german song called 'Atemlos durch die Nacht' by Helene Fischer going through my head. It's a good club track, but a total earworm.
-
sweeteners are good, but getting off refined sugars and getting more sugar from natural sources (basically fruit) is also a huge step forward. strawberries, blueberries, raspberries - God's candy!
-
Honest truth is I don't know. All I can say from years of dieting, trial & error, is that if I don't keep my refined sugar low, I will look awful even though I lose the weight. I find a massive difference between refined sugars (the stuff in processed foods and which you add to your tea), and naturally occurring sugars…
