"measuring the health of a race of people based on their indigenous diets is not practical; there are too many variables" The China Study set out to do just this and seems to have been largely successful. It prompted me to move to a plant based diet.

Kids are a BLESSING! Congrats on yours. Cooking your food and then freezing portions of known calorie content is a big help. snacks like 100 cal bags of Jiffy Pop are filling but low cal (and add fiber!). I suggest working with low fat foods as you can eat more food and feel fuller. A large salad with mixed baby greens,…

Ran 10 miles? You've come a LONG way, Baby! The suit looks very nice on you. Enjoy the beach.

I did Atkins for 10 years. I lost and keep 40 lbs off. You will lose 1/2 per day on avg. More at first, if you follow it carefully. No calorie limits. Atkins works by body chemistry, not calorie intake. Problems: Constipation (you need to drink Metamucil, etc in large qtys) carb cravings, (they disappear after about 3…

From the Shakeology site links: "Some customers may experience initial digestive distress (such as constipation, bloating, gas) when they begin drinking Shakeology... The pre/probiotics, fiber and digestive enzymes in Shakeology also can contribute to mild digestive distress. Think of it as a cleansing process to reclaim…

I'm a vegan and getting along fine on 50 to 75g of protein per day. I do calisthenics almost every morning and pedal a fair number miles each week on a bicycle. Too much protein is tough on your organ systems. (too much of any one thing is bad of course, not just protein)

I was stuck on a plateau for a while. The daily motivation from friends helps! Also, keeping the right thoughts about diet, fitness and working to balance that with the rest of what goes on in life. Add me if you'd like to.

27 is too young to be "mid-life!" But, the only one whose attitude you can change is yours, so work on that outlook. Test the things in your life and stick to the ones that are excellent. Eat healthy and feel better, and set a good model for the kids too. If you're not already doing some, try volunteering to help others…

Beginner rides generally go as slow as the slowest attendee. The idea is welcome new cyclists. As you gain experience and ability, you can start to go with other groups. (Usually by pace and distance, A, B, and C level). You CAN just show up. Be on time ready to go at the stated time. "Pedal at 8:00" means get there by…
Personally I use a Brompton folding bike. Comfortable for about a 20 mile ride.
Brompton is a high quality bike. Less expensive and still good is a Dahon folder. Folding a bike to store is good if space is an issue, otherwise a full size comfort (Look at Electra Bikes for cool looking, easy pedaling,…

I work out at home (or in the room when at a hotel) using a doorway pull up bar and anything convenient to hook my feet under. 6 days per week, I alternate routines. Each routine is 3 sets each of two exercises (chin-ups, pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups), and I also pedal a bike outdoors 2 - 4 times a week based on weather.

Bicycle! Bicycle! I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike! Or turn a wrench on the them when I can't get out on one.

Emotions can be powerful and unpredictable. What seems to be innocent fun may result in stronger feelings than you were ready for. Flirting if you are trying to attract someone's attention is not the same as just flirting for fun. The two can be hard to tell apart.

My wife asked me to read "The China Study." The correlation between diet and disease is astounding. I have to die sometime, but I want to run strong to the end. My wife because interested listening to Bill Clinton talk about diet changes he made following heart bypass surgery. She's taken the course at Cornell and been…

You can get overweight eating anything. Plenty of calories in olive oil! You still have to mind what and how much of what you eat and get exercise.

I went vegan about 2 years ago after reading The China Study, and then Forks Over Knives. I continue t be amazed how much better it makes me feel, and how good it can taste.
