Agreed. I have a sibling like this. On steroids. She always knows best, and gets enraged if I don't immediately drop my plan and take her advice. I don't discuss it with her, and if she brings up anything regarding my physical appearance (good or bad), I pretend I didn't hear it, change the subject or leave the room.…

I like to loiter at the gym. I just take my time and try some new things, or hit the pool. Then I go get coffee or lunch and read a book. Finally, a long hot shower and British period dramas. Sounds like a pretty great afternoon to me. :)

I should have constructed a whole alternative backstory for myself. Oh well. Opportunity missed. :)

@SierraFatToSkinny- Lol! It's not nearly as interesting as it sounds. I have a plain silver ring that I've always loved. I'm not a jewelry person, so when we got married, I just kept wearing it.

Doctors often don't have a clue what actually works for PCOS. I have it. It's not so much different from what others need to do. You do need a calorie deficit. But it can be slow. Be patient. I started at 248 and am now at 204. I do find a lower carb eating pattern to be useful. If you can't have dairy, that's a challenge,…

Yeah, it looks like you're accidentally adding a food to the database, not to your own diary. If your on the web, follow the above instructions. I actually find the iPhone app easier to use, so if you have that option give it a try.

@sdereski - Not yet. I've been working with a coach on the erg to get the technique down and will learn to row on the water this summer. Really looking forward to it!

I've been wearing the same ring on the same finger since I was 15, so my finger just has a size-5 dent. No change with weight gain or loss. But now I can take the ring off when I want. So that's good.

Am I wrong that part of your question is how much to put in each container? Or are you comfortable just eyeballing the 7 portions?
-
Sounds good. I made that point because people often think they need to drink gallons of water, which isn't necessary. I usually drink a large glass with each meal, which is plenty when combined with all of the other liquids I'm getting (coffee, soup, yogurt, etc.)

Excess sodium always does that to me. Just be sure to hydrate properly (not excessively, just enough) and it'll go away on its own. It's just water. I limit calories and carbs (I'm insulin resistant). I try not to eat out often because that water retention is uncomfortable and it's just easier to meet my calorie…

Just a couple of thoughts that may or may not be helpful. 1) If all of those servings are for you to eat yourself, it'll even out over the week even if you don't have equal portions. 2) If you weigh out seven 50g portions (350g) and cook it all together, you can then weigh the finished amount and divide it by seven. That's…

How did I not know this is a thing? Must try.

I dieted down in 2003, figuring it couldn't hurt to lose a few pounds while we were trying to conceive with meds. I hit the line from obese to just overweight (207 lbs), and got pregnant. After that baby, we said were done with kids and I started losing weight again. Didn't go on BC because I'd never had to before and I'd…

Rowed 12km today (a little over an hour), followed by pull-ups, chin-ups, and dips. I was supposed to do my 1km rowing time trial but I wasn't feeling it. I'll try again tomorrow.

Have you considered an indoor trainer for your existing bike instead of a whole stationary bike? They're much less expensive.

I think this is therapy territory, to be honest. These are irrational fears (which I think you recognize) and they're keeping you from living the life you want. Please see someone. It really can improve your quality of life. Two of my kids (the oldest is your age) have anxiety and they've learned a lot through their weekly…

You're talking about Pound? Yeah, I'd say general aerobics. I actually do cardio drumming too. ;)
-
I don't see why not. The texture of the skin will change, but that'll happen as soon as it cools down. We often have leftovers and the kids eat them for a few days until they're gone.

@missannabel -- Fair enough. I'm 5'10", which isn't so common either. Carry on. :)
-
@missannabel -- I love the enthusiasm, but you're commenting on a lot of very old threads, and most of these people aren't around anymore. Maybe check the dates before you spend the time?

Welcome! I'd recommend reading all you can -- both here and elsewhere. There's a lot of conflicting advice so use your critical thinking skills. There are lots of good approaches. Since you're looking to build muscle, and not lose weight (is that correct?), you'll want to eat at maintenance or even a slight surplus, eat…

Rowing. 2km warm-up, followed by a 1km sprint as prep for a time trial next week. Goal was 4:00. Result was 4:00.8. So close! Then a final 2km cool-down. Lastly, sets of assisted pull-ups, chin-ups, and dips.

I have PCOS as well. Calories are still key for us, so double-check your logging. You don't need to restrict more than other people, so don't try to be too aggressive. You may find it helps to keep your carbs on the lowish side -- 150g works for me. It helps me stay satisfied. I also find that vigorous exercise helps me --…

Tangential anecdote: When I was pregnant, I got an ultrasound. The tech looked at my chart before she started and actually gasped. She had assumed I was newly pregnant. I was actually fully loaded -- overdue by a week. We decided it was because I'm tall with broad shoulders and a larger chest. I'm sure also being…

My husband and I went to the gym together (which was awesome all on its own since he's usually not interested). When we left we were talking about how welcoming this gym is to people of all sizes, ages, and fitness levels. I said something that grouped me in with the larger, less fit folks, and he said, "Uh, nope? Not…

Choose a less aggressive weekly weight loss goal. Cardio, just be careful not to overestimate calories burned.
-
The only way to know for sure how much you're burning and should actually eat is this: How much are you actually losing per week? If you're on track for 1 lb per week, keep doing what you're doing. If you're losing more, you should eat more of your exercise calories until you reach 1 lb. You're a science experiment of one,…
