My family of 5 is now all adults and we mostly fend for ourselves, so I’m free to prepare foods that suit only my own simple tastes. After 20 years of feeding individuals with varying preferences, I definitely have decision fatigue and it’s a relief to just be able to eat the simple and formulaic food I prefer. Breakfast:…

Rolled oats cooked in nonfat milk, strawberries, and a nonfat latte.

I cook a pot of rolled oats on Sundays and I have that every morning with some fruit. One minute in the microwave and it’s good to go.

I recently did the math on the weight I’d regained over the last year, and it came down to an extra ~100c a day. Pretty surprising. I’d been beating myself up about how much of a glutton I must be. That’s just half of one granola bar per day. Not really an interesting confession. But here’s the thing: I also started paying…

I weigh daily, but only log it on Fridays. Helps me stay motivated but not twitchy.

My current mini goal: * Increasing my steps average to 5k/day. My usual mode is so sedentary that I won’t get 500 if I’m not intentional about it. My next celebrations: * 219.9 on the scale. Saw 220.3 this morning. * The next size down in jeans. A belt is needed with the old ones so it should be soon.

We use Freshly to eliminate chronic food decision-fatigue that results in too much take-out. The food is fine. Not great, but edible. I don’t like a lot of salt and these are OK for me. The portions are good for me, since I like to eat a salad first. My spouse has to add some leftover meat if he doesn’t want to get hungry…

Quoting myself to finally update. I rode that 2 lbs (give or take a half-pound) until today. Then a sudden 2.5 lb drop to a new low.

Great thread! From my Dad: * Pancakes with strawberries and plain homemade yogurt on top * Sticky buns (flaky biscuits spiraled with cinnamon, brown sugar, and pecans — not really very sticky) From my Mom: * Cornbread, sausage, apple stuffing at holidays * Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting * Warm banana bread with…

If anyone has recommendations for glucose and lipid meters, I’m all ears. Amazon is a black hole of options.

I’m really interested in this. I have a BP cuff, and am looking at getting glucose and lipid meters. Plus weight and waist measurements, and I’ll have some good data. Fun science project.

I posted this to the Describe Your Vision thread and thought it might resonate with us here. “It’s 20 years from now. My husband and I (by then age 70) are hiking in the Lake District in England. We’ve been staying here for a couple of months, renting a cottage. We’ve spent our days hill walking, reading in the garden, and…

It’s my husband’s birthday today. He wanted big burgers for dinner and Cheesecake Factory for dessert. I wanted him to enjoy his day AND stick to my calorie deficit. I was able to participate and not overeat by choosing a veggie burger and some berries, whipped cream, and a few dark chocolate chips. Still delicious.

I’ve renamed my meals to Morning, Afternoon, and Evening, and log any alcohol in the appropriate time of day of consumption. The eating pattern that works best for me is to save alcohol and sweets for one day a week as a treat. I still fit them into my weekly calorie goals, so it’s not cheating. Personal choice based on…

I’m not sure about the PC site, but on the app: 1) At the bottom, right corner, click the 3 dots where it says More. 2) Go to My Meals, Recipes & Foods. 3) Click the bottom blue bar to Create A Recipe. 4) You can then choose to import one from a website or you can start from scratch. It’s going to ask you for the number of…

I use the recipe creator pretty frequently for meals that I’m likely to make again, and that are more than just a few ingredients. I weigh the cooking dish or serving pot in grams and write that down somewhere. Then weigh (zeroing it out in between) and put all the ingredients into the recipe builder as they get prepped.…

My spouse cooked dinner tonight. Instead of complaining that he chose to make something calorific, I thanked him for making it, then altered it to suit me. Swapped out chicken for chick peas and salad for most of the french fries. Earlier today, he had suggested we get fast food while we ran errands. I talked him down to a…

Went for a hike with my spouse and dog today. Beautiful sunny day. We talked a lot about our health goals and what our motivations are. We realized a couple of months back that we’re at significant risk for a bad prognosis if either of us catches COVID-19. We’re being cautious and following the guidelines, but it could…

Don’t blink! :) That was a terrifying episode.

LOL! Thanks for the preemptive post. I predicted 3 lbs up. I was 2 lbs up this AM.

Hi! I think I meet both criteria: looking to get healthy and being nerdy. Proof: Bullet points. — 5’10”, 49yo. 10 lbs down, 30 to go. That won’t get me quite to the ideal BMI, but I’ll reassess when I get there. I’m not looking to wear a bikini. I’m looking to live a long, healthy life.* — We’re going in a Star Trek cruise…

I’ll be 50 in January, so that counts, right? :) I lost 60 lbs with MFP a couple of years back. Gained back 35 before I realized what was happening, so here I am. I’m on a 1-lb-per-week deficit, prioritizing fruit and veg. Daily walks, plus a little balance work and bodyweight exercise. Keeping it simple and easy enough to…
